In life, we’re all looking for love, in so many different ways. We’re often so focused on how we want the outside to look to represent love that we forget how we want to express love. That’s what brought the Mormon settlers to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah, they wanted to express love in their own way. Obviously every religion (and non religion) has their own issues, every individual does, but at the end of the day the majority of practicers from all of them just want the ability to express love and faith in their own ways, and of course can be taken advantage of by a small few who feel the need to take control out of a lack of love in their own lives. For me, I have love for people of all religions and faiths, and those who don’t practice any of those either. And We indeed tested those who were before them. Sauver les gens c'est bien, mais pas a n'importe quel prix. L'héroïne est enjoué et plutôt innocente, elle croit un peu trop aux gens et ne connait pas la rancoeur. Pure et innocente,candide et enjouée, l'avenir ne sera sûrement pas toujours tendre avec elle. Je ne continuerai pas cette histoire, la naïveté de la sainte à eu raison de moi. Ça m'a agassé. 10 mei: H. Pater Damiaan, Jozef de Veuster (1840-1889), missionaris, Apostel van de Melaatsen, Grootste Belg aller tijden. Jozef de Veuster werd geboren Tremelo en kreeg bij zijn intrede bij de congregatie van de Heilige Harten van Jezus en Maria (de Picpus paters) de naam Damiaan. Pas na zijn aankomst in 1864 in Honolulu ontving hij zijn priesterwijding in Kohala. Hij ging als eerste naar de melaatsenkolonie (leprozen) op het eiland Molokai en bleef de rest van zijn leven daar om de melaatsen geestelijk bij te staan, te troosten, te verzorgen, te begraven, en ook door ze scholing en muziek (een fanfare) te geven in een ziekenhuisje en twee weeshuizen. Die die hij had weten te bouwen van giften die hij volop kreeg. Hij deed alles alleen, omdat niemand op het eiland durfde te komen. Damiaan kreeg uiteindelijk zelf ook lepra en stierf in Molokai. Door de bevolking werd hij liefkozend Makua Kamiano genoemd (‘Vader Damiaan’). Damiaans relieken liggen in de Picpuskerk te Leuven. In 1969 werd een standbeeld van hem onthuld in het Capitool in Washington D.C., als enige niet-Amerikaan. Ook staan standbeelden van hem in Leuven, Tremelo en Scherpenheuvel. In 2015 werd de Father Damien Way in New York ingehuldigd, nabij een hospitaal waar leprozen worden behandeld. Zijn feest wordt gevierd op 10 mei, omdat hij toen aankwam op Molokai. Zijn sterfdag is echter op 15 april. In a recent talk with a television channel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he wanted the Muslim community to “introspect, think.” “The country’s progressing, if you feel any shortcomings in your community, what is the reason behind it? Why didn’t you get government benefits in the time when Congress was in power?” he asked. Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party had made use of the slogan “sabka saath sabka vikas (together with all, development for all)” through all election campaigns and his first term in office. Although Modi repeats this slogan sporadically, is his vision really “for all?” On June 2, 2014, a week after Modi came to power, 28-year-old Muslim information technology professional Mohsin Sheikh was lynched by a Hindu mob led by Hindu Rashtriya Sena leader Dhananjay Desai in Pune. This was the first incident of mob lynching leading to death after Modi came to power. Modi was silent. Twenty-one individuals including Dhananjay Desai and two minors accused of Mohsin Sheikh’s murder were acquitted. The single bench of Justice Mridula Bhatkar of the Bombay high court said, “The fault of the deceased was only that he belonged to another religion. I consider this factor in favour of the applicants/accused. Moreover, the applicants/accused do not have criminal record and it appears that in the name of the religion, they were provoked and have committed the murder.” The surge in mob lynchings and hate crimes targeting Muslims became increasingly prevalent in the subsequent years as hatred became ingrained in laws and policies. It began with the implementation of purportedly anti-cow slaughter laws across various Indian states. Fifty-two-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was dragged out of his house in the Dadri district of Uttar Pradesh after rumours of cow slaughter on September 28, 2015. While Akhlaq succumbed to injuries his son Danish survived brutal attacks. Akhlaq’s family still awaits justice. In 1492 and again in 1498, when the Sephardic Jews were expelled from Spain and Portugal respectively, some took it as a call from heaven to migrate to the Land of Israel, which changed hands from Mamluks to Ottomans after the second Ottoman–Mamluk war. By the late 16th century, Safed had become a center of Kabbalah, inhabited by important rabbis and scholars. Among them were Rabbis Yakov bi Rav, Moses ben Jacob Cordovero, Yosef Karo, Abraham ben Eliezer Halevi and Isaac Luria. At this time there was a small community in Jerusalem headed by Rabbi Levi ibn Haviv also known as the Mahralbach. In 1620 Rabbi Yeshaye Horowitz, the Shelah Hakadosh, arrived from Prague. In 1700, Judah HeHasid, a maggid of Shedlitz, Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth made aliyah and settled in Jerusalem. A group of over 1500 Ashkenazi Jews came with him, although some sources claim only 300 actually arrived. At that time, the Jewish population of the Old City of Jerusalem was primarily Sephardic: 200 Ashkenazi Jews compared with a Sephardi community of 1000. The Ashkenazi immigrants heeded the call of Judah HeHasid, who went from town to town advocating a return to the Land of Israel to redeem its soil. In the 18th century, groups of Hasidim and Perushim settled in Eretz Yisrael, Ottoman Southern Syria at the time. In 1764 Rabbi Nachman of Horodenka, a disciple and father-in-law of the Baal Shem Tov settled in Tiberias. According to "Aliyos to Eretz Yisrael," he was already in Southern Syria in 1750. In 1777, the Hasidic leaders Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk and Rabbi Avraham of Kaliski, disciples of the maggid Dov Ber of Mezeritch, settled in the area. Misnagdim began arriving in 1780. Most of them settled in Safed or Tiberias, but a few established an Ashkenazi Jewish community in Jerusalem, rebuilding the ruins of the Hurva Synagogue, the destroyed synagogue of Judah HeHasid. The Unfinished Chants High atop a forgotten peak, nestled amongst the swirling mists, stood the Monastery of Whispering Pines. Its weathered halls once echoed with the serene chants of monks devoted to achieving enlightenment. Now, an eerie silence held dominion. Within the decaying chambers resided not living beings, but a peculiar congregation - the Skeletons of Whispering Pines. Master Wu Cheng, his skull polished by time, led this spectral group. Their robes hung limp on their bony frames, a constant reminder of their past lives. Unlike the mindless undead, the monks retained their intellect and memories. They even clung fiercely to their belief in reincarnation, chanting sutras night after night, the hollow sounds bouncing off the dusty walls. Yet, their devotion seemed tragically misplaced. Decades, perhaps centuries, had passed since their earthly demise. Their flesh had long since decomposed, leaving only their unwavering belief and the gnawing awareness of their predicament. Master Wu Cheng, his eye sockets flickering with an ethereal light, would often gaze out at the distant horizon. "Why are we denied rebirth, brothers?" his raspy voice would echo. "Have our chants not reached the ears of the ancestors?" The other monks, their jaws fixed in silent grimaces, could only rattle their skulls in a mournful symphony. One, Brother Wei, his bony fingers forever clutching a prayer wheel, would whisper, "Perhaps our karma binds us here, Master. Perhaps we must atone for some forgotten sin." Their days were a monotonous cycle of chanting, meditation, and the gnawing ache of unfulfilled purpose. They tended the monastery's overgrown gardens, a futile attempt to maintain a semblance of their past lives. One stormy night, a flash of lightning illuminated the skeletal visages of the monks. A lone traveler, lost and seeking refuge, stumbled upon the monastery. The sight of the animated skeletons sent him reeling, but Master Wu Cheng, with surprising gentleness, calmed him. #dreadjim #religion
