Diem is our FMC, who I love by the way, she is so feisty! She is a mortal living in a world run by Descendents (non mortals who have magic and special colored eyes) where life is cruel and unfair for folk like herself. From a young age, Diem was taught the art of healing from her mother, and vows to help all who are in need and doesn’t let mortal or non mortal dictate who she helps. She has seen some truly despicable things and when she witnesses a heinous act by a descendent, she decides to join the rebel cause. On a trip to the palace to help injured children she comes across a mysterious man who turns out to be the Crown Prince Luther. Every time they touch, sparks fly. They seem polar opposites in every way but as she begins to peel the layers, her opinion of him beings to change. There seems to be some sort of attraction between them, something mysterious. Along the way we receive many breadcrumbs making us question who Diem really is. Who is her father? Why is she taking flameroot and why was it off limits to mortals? I also am interested in learning the backstory of Auralie, Diem’s mother, and her mysterious disappearance. ✨️Mini Book Review✨️ 5⭐️ I devoured this and can confidently say this pulled me out of a reading slump I have been in for the last couple of weeks. Thank you, @mythandmagicbookclub, for allowing me to be an arc reader. I loved Compass Points, and the sequel did not disappoint. This picks up right after book 1, and we are thrown into a journey with our main characters. I obviously can't say a lot because we are in the middle of a fast-paced fantasy series. The charachter dynamics are so well developed, the pacing for me was perfect, it gave me Avatar the last airbender vibes, we get more steam in this installment, and lastly we have lots of action! There is no miscommunication, and the way the characters are so understanding of eachothers needs is so comforting. I can't wait to see where this story goes and love that we get to be in this world longer. I thought it was only going to be a duology, but with this ending, there can only be more!! Stephen Graham Jones knows how to write horror, someone give this man more awards because it was a chilling read to lose yourself in. I honestly would sit down with this book and lose track of time, it was thrilling and scary to read; I’ve only ever read one horror book and that was all the way back in middle school almost 8 years ago. I can see how much thought and effort Salvatore put into writing this from the first scene of the demon reappearance in the world to the very last page—it was deeply steeped in fantasy. Now as to why I took off three stars. The plot progression was slow, the characters were a bit too unrealistic, and the writing itself was too long. I agree that there are many aspects to writing a book that require in-depth details to get the author’s point across to the reader but the wording in this was boring. It was hard to pay attention to what’s on the page when there are so many words surrounding the same thing being thrown at you. The characters’ behavior and their age did not match up either. Jag hade nöjet att träffa på de båda herrarna på bokmässan i höstas, ett mycket trevligt möte och fick dessutom ett cover reveal på den här boken 🤗 Wollter och Bergström är två mycket sympatiska konstaplar med hjärtat på rätt ställe och fulla av erfarenhet. En ung kvinna, tidigare känd av polisen för sitt narkotikamissbruk, hittas död på en offentlig toalett efter en överdos. Det blir startskottet för den ökade tillströmning av heroin i Stockholmsinnerstad som narkotikapolisen märker av. Wollter och Bergström vet de att de måste ta till krafttag för att förhindra fler dödsfall och snart är de så nära källan att de själva riskerar livet. Lamin Bojang lämnar Gambia för att starta ett nytt liv i Tyskland, resan han betalat dyrt för blir inte riktigt som utlovat och han hamnar tillslut i Sverige istället där han ska komma att spela en viktig roll. Det här är en mycket välskriven bok och det märks att den ena parten i författarduon faktiskt är narkotikapolis. Well, let's just say I have a photo of every single unread book that I own whether it's kindle or physical in hopes that I'll get to them when I took them... as I sit here and share my review of Mixed Signals by @authorbkborison with my fall flowers. 🙈😂 Anyway... on to the review. 👀 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ While this isn't my favorite in the series, it's still a fun read. I love fake dating and this was definitely a fun take on it but it was a little to insta lovey for me! I like my books having angst and this is more fluffy, sunshiney (is this even a word 🤷♀️🤣) and cute. With that said, both Layla and Caleb were fun together, their dates were the best parts to be honest. They were down right comical which was great. I loved that she owns a bakery and that it gets shown quite a bit through out the book. And clearly Caleb loves her baked goodies.... among other things! 😈 All around this is a solid read and would recommend for my more sunshine/sunshine type readers. Synopsis: Layla Dupree has given up on love. She’s waded through all of the fish in the sea, each one more disappointing than the last. Apparently owning the bakery at Inglewild’s most romantic destination does not help one’s love life—despite her best efforts. Knox is one of the best book boyfriends I've read about so far. He definitely goes above and beyond for Larkin and her two kids. ✨ Book Review ✨ Unsteady - Peyton Corinne 🏒 You guys this book!!!!!!!! Wow I was not expecting a story that pulled on your heartstrings. There was just so much depth to the story it’s not just all about it being a spicy hockey romance. The storyline covered things like alcohol abuse, PTSD, panic attacks. But also things like strength, perseverance, doing everything you can for the ones you love, support and how asking for help doesn’t make you weak. Sadie and her brother’s story just broke my heart where kids have to do the jobs of adults rather than be kids. This story was written beautifully. The pull and push between Sadie and Rhys just made the tension grow and grow they are your typical black cat girl and golden retriever boy. I loved this book so much thank @harpercollinsnz for the #gifted copy. Also swipe for a snippet of a hockey game I went to last night! Which meant I obviously had to take the book for a photo!

✨ New Review ✨ Title: Daddy's Addiction Author: B.J. Alpha My format: Audiobook 🎧 #ALC Narrators/Production: @stellahunternarrator (Narrator), @walkerwilliamsvo (Narrator), @sparksflystudios (Production) Narration style: Duet 🎤: 4.5 🌶️: 5 There are a LOT of k!nks in this book, and many are not of the ‘garden variety’ so make sure you check the author’s website for details before you start. Walker Williams was a new-to-me narrator and he might have become an instant favourite! I loved the pitch of his voice (I am like Goldilocks, I prefer voices that are not too deep, and not too high), and the pace and tone that he used throughout were perfect. I made note of one line in particular; “Put. Some. F*ucking. Clothes. On. Or. I’ll. Spank. You.” was just -chefs kiss- with Walker’s slow, quiet, and deadly delivery. I’ve heard Stella’s acting a few times now and she is yet to disappoint. Her hint of an accent always endears me to her characters quickly and she is always excellent at changing her cadence and pitch to suit the energy and tone of the moment. Sparksfly Studios has quickly become a favourite production house of mine, as I love their subtle style of duet with the occasional sound effect. I am not a fan of graphic audio so this middle ground really works for me. ... ... ... As for the book itself... PLEASE READ: I DNF’d at 62% as I found a trigger/ick I didn’t know I had until now, this was NOT due to any fault by the author. The writing and dialogue in the book were all well-executed and the author clearly knows what they are doing, and I can see many people ADORING this book. So definitely check it out if you think this is up your alley (so to speak). Just don’t go in blind like I did lol (it’s my own fault really!) I received an early copy of the audiobook for this title, and whilst I personally didn’t finish the book I still wanted to review the audiobook quality itself. .

🍒💣 #bookreview 🍒💣 Title: My Darling, Dreadful Thing Author: Johanna van Veen Publisher: Poisoned Pen Press Publication Date: May 14th, 2024 My Darling, Dreadful Thing (hereafter referred to as MDDT in this review) is an absolutely lovely, dark, and haunting piece of gothic fiction with delicious hidden pockets of horrid secrets tucked away like terrible treats right up until the end. We’re in the Netherlands and it’s the 1950s (probably early 1950s). Our protagonist is Roos, who is being examined by a psychiatrist (sadly, a Freudian) to ascertain whether or not she’s mentally responsible for the death of her employer, a Mrs. Agnes Knoop. Roos is of the opinion that she both is and isn’t. It’s a long story. MDDT is told in two timelines, with two formats: One is the main story, told from Roos’ first-person POV, and the other is in the form of interviews the psychiatrist has with Roos. I thought van Veen did an absolutely fantastic job with this format. The psychiatrist comes across as understandably and realistically skeptical, and even though he’s a Freudian thinker (yuck), he never comes across as vulgar or exploitative. The main story, Roos’ story, is the stuff gothic fiction dreams are made of. A cruel mother, a childhood full of suffering, and a rescue from that wretched existence by a rich and lovely widow who brings Roos to her estate, Rozentuin, ostensibly because she they are similar and she couldn’t stand to see Roos suffer in those conditions. Rozentuin, like Thornfield or Manderley, is where all the secrets have been tucked away and left to fester. With Roos, Agnes, their respective spirit companions, and Agnes’ slowly-dying sister-in-law all inside this old house with all their personal ghosts it’s not too long until things start to go terribly wrong. Rather than playing with politics, Devin prefers to study the healing arts with the druid Oran. She’s also close with Tristan, one of her father’s most trusted soldiers who grew up alongside Devin and her siblings. After a sudden attack on her home ends in tragedy, Devin is thrust into the leadership role of her land, which she wasn’t prepared for. Kan man klage over en bog, der får en til at grine lidt for sig selv og få en god følelse i kroppen? For det var hvad jeg gik igennem, da jeg læste “Koden til kærlighed” af Susannah Nix, der er udgivet på dansk af @alphaforlag . Og ja, jeg ved ikke lige hvad der e med mig, men when life gives you Lenins-read a funny book. “Da den nyuddannede computernørd Melody flyver til L.A. for at prøve at lande sit drømmejob i en stor techvirksomhed, kommer det mildt sagt som en overraskelse, at hendes onenightstand fra college er ansat i samme firma. ..” Ad en lidt snørklet vej og efter noget tid, får de to eks elskende et ret stærkt venskab - men gnisten er ikke forsvundet imellem dem, så spørgsmålet er om de kan nøjes med at være venner, når livet stiller dem i vanskelige øjeblikke, hvor man har brug for en ven? Den her bog var for mig, som de der film/serier i tv, hvor man på en måde kan koble hjernen lidt fra (og ja, hvordan kan man lige det når man læser- men den følelse havde jeg) - men på den gode måde. Der findes perioder i mit liv, hvor jeg har brug for en bog, der følger reglerne inden for genren- hvilket den her gør langt hen af vejen i forhold til at være en romantisk ungdomsbog. Der er humor, syndige tanker og romantik fra start til slut - men der er også lidt mere ved den her historie, der fik mig til at involvere mig med de to hovedkarakterer, tro på historien og heppe på den lykkelige slutning. På nogle områder(men også kun nogle), fik jeg en smule “One day”-vibes i forhold til kemien. En underholdende feelgood bog. Jeg glæder mig til de næste bind i serien.
