Usually I don’t read fiction, but The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder had me hooked from the beginning, line and sinker. The principal setting is in what one can imagine is a picturesque village in Suffolk in England away from the hustle and bustle of cities, apart from a few brief mentions of the main character’s home is for sale in London. C L Miller has an incredible talent for weaving this story, keeping the reader on the edge of the seat, wanting to just read to the end of the page and then carry on reading. The plots are well thought out, the fictional quotes from Arthur at the beginning of each chapter make one think this is or could be a true story. The writing style is easy to read and it is easy to imagine this story as a tv movie. ✨ Review ✨ What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher; Narrated by Avi Roque Thanks to Tor Nightfire, MacMillan Audio and #netgalley for the gifted advanced copy/ies of this book! This book follows after What Moves the Dead and returns us to Alex, former soldier, who's now recovering from the horrors faced in the first book. Alex, Angus, and her horse head of to their family hunting lodge in rural Gallacia, where they will soon be joined by the mushroom expert Miss Potter. While the horrors were apparent in What Moves the Dead from early on, the horror elements appear much later here. It does have great dry humor and gothic vibes thorughout the book, but you definitely have to be patient to get to the spookiness. I enjoyed this book overall, but would have enjoyed a bit more from the horror. I saw one review describe this as endearing horror which really resonates -- we spent a lot of time in the book in Alex's head, learning more about their experiences in and after the wars they fought in. As always, Hob, Angus, and the crew provide plenty of good laughs along the way. (also I spent most of the book trying to figure out if it was also a Poe adaptation like the first, but I don't think it was?) 🎧 This has the same narrator as the previous book in this series which provided nice continuity. Roque voices Alex well and her inner world that really shines through in this book! First,I want to give a shoutout to this brave women who fought breast cancer and won. Now,to gush about this book. I love cheating romance novels. I love MC novels. I love second chances and seeing growth between both the hero and heroine. E.K Hart once again knocked it out of the park. Caleb is the twin brother of Jagger (from book 1 of the 5th circle guardians mc). Their dads book,King,actually releases month! I have to say my favorite thing about this book was how realistic the story is. The emotions. This book is a journey and I loved it. Caleb has a few too many at the clubhouse and wakes up next to a club girl. Yep. Caleb cheated on his extremely pregnant wife and the mother of both of his children. This story is their journey back together. It has a beautiful HEA,a grovel showed by actions and making necessary changes to better himself and a beautiful reconciliation. Abby was phenomenal and grew as a women and mother. I just adored her. I loved when Abby finally called Caleb out on how hurt she was over the years by his actions. Best part? A celibate hero. Now I think that ‘mixed feelings’ is the best way to describe it. I liked Finny in the first book but getting his POV and how he justified some of his decisions really made me second guess it. It feels like one simple phone call would have fixed it before the entire situation got out of hand. He really annoyed me and how he justifies that dragging along was okay. The ending was very heartbreaking but it was also kinda frustrating that there’s another open ending with no answers. This was my first Hepworth book and I’m a fan! I loved the bond between the three foster sisters. The characters in this book are so vibrant and well developed. The characters will be dancing around in your head for days after you finish this one 💙. . Jessica was Miss Fairchild’s first foster child. She was the rule follower, the one who yearned to be loved (by anyone). Norah was the second, the one who had been tossed around the foster system. The one who learned to throw the first punch at an early age. The beautiful one with her hackles up. And then there was Alicia, the one who came with jokes, warmth, and kindness. Less than a week now until Writer's Retreat debuts! In honor of this, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about the inspiration behind my story, The Specter of Rejection. I've talked a little bit before about rejection sensitive dysphoria and how that makes rejection seem like a bigger indictment of me as a person than it really is. I feel like I've made good progress on this front, especially these past few years, putting myself out there with my writing and trying not to take rejections and critiques to heart. But I'd be lying if I said it didn't still sting. Around the time the Writer's Retreat call was announced, I received a rejection from an anthology that I felt was right up my alley. I had put myself out there and asked for critiques, and the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive with some useful insights help me improve the story. After implementing those tweaks, I felt reasonably proud of and confident in my story. And it was rejected. So I channeled my frustrations and anxieties into a story. I sort of wrote it for my younger self, because while I knew this one rejection wasn't I'm going to stop me, there was a point in my life when it would have felt world-ending. And I wrote it for everyone who has grappled with feelings of inadequacy in the wake of a rejection. Many of us have a voice at the back of our heads, whispering that we're not good enough, that we'll never be good enough. It's hard not to listen to that voice, but you don't have to let it win. I'm so excited for this anthology, and I'm so excited for you all to be able to read my story. The four are practically family as they talk on the daily, vacation together, and their children are inseparable. While at work, Lucy is looking through a co-worker’s honeymoon photos when she comes across a photo that makes her stomach sink. It’s Scott but the woman in the photo with him isn’t Cora. Lucy struggles on whether she should say anything to Cora or if she should confront Scott and give him the chance to explain. Things soon take a turn for the worse when the woman in the photo has gone missing. Lucy starts panicking as she’s known Scott for years and there’s no way he would harm another person let alone cheat on Cora. When she tries to ask her co-worker to see the photo once more just to put her suspicions to rest things get weird. The more Lucy digs the more she finds out she might not really know the people she considers family. My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one! It did take me a bit to get through it as I had to put it on hold a couple of times, but it was a great read. The book is mainly told through Lucy’s POV but there are a few parts where it’s told by an unnamed person who we find out later. This kept the book interesting and had me guessing. Every time I had figured something else something else would be brought to light. This one had several moments where every time I thought that was it we finally had the truth something else would come up. Here is my review of Mask Of Deception by Karen Furk I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from the start as it was the second book in the series and followed on from the first. There was more action for Haydan and Maya in them having to go through the veil and all that ensues from there. It’s a pretty much encompassing story where you get enthralled by the storyline and you find it hard to put the book down as you want to know what is going to happen next. ✨The Lady Waiting Magdalena Zyzak ⭐️⭐️💫 This book hooked me with an intriguing premise - a young Polish immigrant picks up a disheveled woman on the side of the road and is sucked into a world of erratic behavior, stolen masterpieces and half-baked heists. It seems like it would be a lot of fun, and parts were interesting, but the disconnect comes from characters who never feel real. I think its possible to portray eccentric characters and still have their oddities rooted in real life, but these characters felt like inventions in someone’s mind throughout. Even our protagonist, Viva, remained one-dimensional and wholly reactive until the final act - which was the most interesting part and was over far too soon. Thanks to @riverheadbooks for the #arc!

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care review 💜 by Ashley Herring Blake my rating: 3.75 ⭐️ i loved both FMCs so much! 🌟🌟🌟 The Henna Artist follows Lakshmi who escapes from an abusive marriage and becomes one of the most mighty requested henna artists in Jaipur. She also becomes a confidante to wealthy women of the upper class. She wants to prove to people that she can live an independent life. Then one day things change she is confronted by her husband and her sister whom she has never met. Even with all of this, she works hard to prove that she is her own strong independent woman. This is a book that I have wanted to read for years. I thought it was just okay. I loved how Lakshmi proved that she is an independent strong woman. However, this book was kind of boring to me. Nothing in this book really stood out to me. I also found out this book is part of a series and I am not going to read the rest of the books. I did not dislike this book though. 🚨 Book Mail! 🚨 A big thank you to @ecwpress for sending me the latest book in the Dr Bannerman Vet Mystery series by @philippschott ! They kindly sent me the first and second books in the series already , FIFTY-FOUR PIGS and SIX OSTRICHES, and now book three! The third book in the series , ELEVEN HUSKIES, follows our beloved veterinarian as he takes his family on holiday in Canada. While at the remote fishing lodge, the lodges sled team of huskies is poisoned and a small plane crashes into the lake. The crash turns out to be murder and it seems it is connected to the huskies. Once again Dr Bannerman and his dog Pippin are on the case. I was initially told that these vet stories are a mix between All Creatures Great and Small and Midsummer Murders. I definitely feel the All Creatures vibes while I read these books. They are the perfect cozy mystery for summer. I am excited to dive into book 3! Eleven Huskies is out May 14th! NEXT - two books by two of my favourite authors. I’m rereading all of my @marian_keyes books and going back to the start of the Walsh Family books with Watermelon I’m super excited I love Marian Keyes and her writing. And I’m finally going to read Still Unwritten by @carolinekauthor I had planned to read this when it came out but a poorly little pup put paid to my reading for a good while. Physical, e-book, or audiobook?? I’m partial to audiobooks, which is why I was so happy when @macmillan.audio picked me as part of their audiobook influencer team 🥹 I can’t wait to share audio reviews with y’all, starting with When Among Crows (out May 14)! This short novella had a lot of great ideas and the Slavic folklore was new to me but extremely interesting! We got a narrator for each main character too, which I always love!! This is my first time reading anything from Roth (yes, that means I never read Divergent 🫥), and I really enjoyed her writing style, especially when it came to the various creatures in this book. I hate to say this about a novella, as it’s the most common complaint with them, but gosh I wish this was a full novel. The core of the story and the characters were so strong, but suffered from a very quickly paced book. I think there was so much depth left untouched in this, from the characters and their relationships and motivations, to the world itself and all the influences that I wanted to learn more about. So while I did find myself wanting this to be longer, I still did enjoy what I read!
