Hedges possesses the ability to write with eloquence and precision, and while his collected works covers everything from Christian fundamentalism, poverty in the US, and the weak/fractured nature of US left wing politics, his writing on war is arguably the most powerful and profound. THE GREATEST EVIL IS WAR is no different, where we see Hedges take aim at the US’s military industrial complex and the bipartisan support it receives, forcing the public to pay into a seemingly endless war economy whose sole purpose is to create global corporate hegemony and societal instability.

I haven’t had a strong reaction to a picture book in a while so thought it might be a good title for me to do a quick review. I accidentally picked this up when I was searching for resources for grief and figured I might need to check in with the optometrist as I missed the big clue on the cover. Now We’re Together follows the story of a child and their mother whose regular scrolling is brought to a halt with the arrival of a power cut. As they go out to investigate, the pair reevaluate their places in the world and reconnect with each other through taking the time to appreciate some of the natural wonders of the blackout. The main reason I had a reaction to this text was that I felt sad about the context of the book, however, I appreciate that it is topical in the world today. I know the irony of me posting this but the balance of online time is a bit of a focus for me as work tends to get a bit isolating and my screen time does creep up as a result! There are tips and tricks at the end of the book to manage screen time at the back of the book and reading through these, they don’t seem too preachy and can open up some good conversations about why it is good to put the devices down at times. My mom swore by it after she was treated rudely at a box store. She bought toys for her grandkids there. We went there for everything. I studied for law school on breaks there. ❌No era a esto a lo que veníamos❌ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖: 203 páginas A ratos me preguntaba cuantas estrellas darle, y creo que de eso se basa el libro, de la incomodidad. “No era a esto a lo que veníamos”, un texto lleno de micro historias que danzan entre lo cotidiano y lo perturbador, donde la línea es tan fina que incomoda muchísimo. Tal como la autora lo menciona, la normalidad nunca sale gratis, y este libro lo deja en claro 👀 Nunca había leído un libro de terror, y si bien me cuesta entender el concepto del terror literario, claramente acabé con una sensación muy rara que me seguirá varios días. La escritura es increíble por lo que logré imaginar cada detalle a la perfección (lo que me perturba aún más). La mayoría de los textos si no todos terminan con un final “abierto” que si bien deja en claro lo que sucedió, queda a la interpretación del lector. Me parece curiosa la fascinación de la autora por el desierto y este supuesto desarrollo personal como trascendencia (mal logrado) el cual implementa en varios de sus relatos, pero que le da personalidad a su escritura🤔🤔 Lo recomiendo totalmente, mueve muchos sentimientos y es una lectura muy rápida, no van a querer parar de leerla. Maas (@sarahjmaas) Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 “She was Aelin Ashryver Galathynius — and she would not be afraid.” Gosh I really enjoyed this one! It definitely sets the tone for the rest of the series and how everything now builds up towards Kingdom of Ash 😭💖 I did sometimes find the pacing a little slow in some places, but it was needed to develop and explore the narrative in greater depth. By the time I hit the halfway mark, I was ZOOMING through the book and then went on an insane rollercoaster towards the end! I CAN’T GET OVER SORSCHA’S DEATH GUYS 😭😭💔 Celaena’s character development is EVERYTHING in this by the way! 🙌🏻 It’s literally like those montages in TV shows/movies where the main protagonist trains to fight against their enemies, but more drawn out and sophisticated 💪🏻. You have no idea how loud I cheered when Celaena was able to summon and hold a fire shield without failing and when she stood against Maeve and broke Rowan’s blood oath ✨. She is definitely a queen in the making — GO AND RATTLE THE STARS GIRL! 🔥 Can we also talk about Celaena and Rowan for a second? Oh my, the slow burn was so real but so intimate 😉. I pretty much lost my shit when they claimed each other AHHH!! 🙌🏻 And then there’s Manon ❤️. l have to admit, it took me a while to appreciate her as a character when I first read the series and even now as I’m re-reading it for the second time. Her introduction felt a little flat to me but she developed so much afterwards, especially once she met Abraxos! 💖 Overall, this was another amazing read in the ToG series and contributed so much to the narrative’s development; I’m excited to see where Queen of Shadows takes me! QOTD - How long did it take you to say Aelin’s full name without stumbling over the syllables? I don’t think I’ll ever get it right honestly! I always tend to either unintentionally remove the ‘i’ and say “Galathynus” or add an extra ‘n’ after the second ‘a’ and say “Galanthynus” 😂

They have been my go to genre for most of my life, and that’s doesn’t seem to have any signs of stopping. For me, small town romances are a quintessential part of the romance genre, and one that, surprisingly, I don’t read too often. I don’t know why, since they are sweet, comforting, and quirky. Sweetbriar Ridge is exactly what I would hope for from a small town. It was filled with stores I want to visit (why doesn’t Bean & Books actually exist?), families who all know each other’s business (maybe not the best selling point), and ideal location (I long to live in the mountains). This is the third book in the The Donovans: Sweetbriar Ridge series, and while I didn’t read the others, I’m inspired to after this one. Chloe and Tanner’s journey was interesting, rivals to friends, and then friends to lovers, which was fun to read through the stages. I love the Invisible Library series and I love Scarlett (the previous book to this). I had big expectations for this book and I wasn't disappointed. Eleanor is a fantastic character and I love the relationship with her and Amina. I can't wait for the next book to see how Eleanors character develops with the certain revelations from this book. I love the Rococo period and this book just oozes with that style...plus vampires. If anyone is a fan of history fiction with a supernatural twist then give this series a go. Anna je v jakémsi komatózním stavu zvaném syndrom rezignace, do kterého upadla těsně poté, co byla nalezena celá od krve, s nožem v ruce, u dvou mrtvých, pobodaných těl. Jelikož pochází z poměrně významné rodiny, ihned se stala terčem novinářů - je Anna vražedkyně, nebo pouhá oběť, na kterou byla vražda narafičena? Anotace v topu, 2/3 knihy také, krátké kapitoly, děj utíkal zběsilou rychlostí, originální námět, bavilo mě střídání postav i vysvětlování vědečtějších prvků (uvěřitelnost 😂👀), bohužel mě ale zklamal konec, který byl dle mého vkusu příliš překombinovaný. V momentě, kdy se začal lámat chleba, jsem se začala v ději ztrácet. Doufala jsem, že bude rozuzlení postupně lépe vysvětleno, přišlo mi však, že se zauzlovalo víc a víc 😃 Každopádně čtu na knihu zatím samé pozitivní recenze, je tedy možné, že mi zkrátka nesedla. Book No. 40 I just finished reading BEHOLD THE DREAMERS by Imbolo Mbue as part of #readafricanmonth and was completely drawn in. The novel masterfully portrays the lives of a Cameroonian couple in New York, navigating the harsh realities of the Great Recession with incredible depth and emotion. Mbue crafts wonderfully flawed, complex characters and delves into powerful themes like immigration and the American Dream with empathy and honesty. The struggles and resilience of Neni and her family were particularly moving, providing a raw look at the pursuit of a better life amidst significant challenges. This book is a deep exploration of diverse American lives and a compelling read that I absolutely loved. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros I enjoyed this one, but not for the reasons I think many are reading it. It's become a bit of a sensation in internet book circles. I won my copy in a competition last year and chose this book (and the second installment) as I wanted to try some more fantasy books. I didn't really get what I wanted. The magical lore was left largely unexplored, as were the counties and people groups and their motivations for being at war- this was not explained until the last 50 pages and therefore left me univested. Maybe this will be further explored in future instalments? However, I did get an easy read, with light humour - and dragons. Think YA but with a fair bit of swearing and a fair bit of spice. Hunger games mixed with twilight vibes and dragons. Will I read the others? Probably. (I've already got the second and I hate not reading books). They're light and entertaining. I'm still on my hunt for a good fantasy read though. She describes these vivid scenes that easily pull me into the story. A story that feels kinda fluid. It's like a portal fantasy, it starts off in our average world then goes to the world of glitz and glam before slowly making its way to a fantasy realm with dragons, witches, sirens, and more. It was seamless. The plot is just so freaking interesting. My favorite part was the story within the story, when Fall her the history of Ennaris, more specifically, the Fall of Ennaris. Syra's story was just so compelling, it was easy to fall into and everything in Fall's story started to make a lot more sense. However, that whole little adventure Fall had, had me asking a lot of questions and coming up with my own theories. Holy crap, what an ending! So many revelations and that last scene, it made my heart stop. Mama Si's Paradise is a thickums but it's not over, I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. One of the first pieces of advice when I joined Bookstagram and started inquiring about ARCS was to not 👏🏻 over 👏🏻 request 👏🏻 because you likely will be approved for more than you anticipate as a newbie. For the most part I do stick to this and don’t over request. Once my ARC count gets low, I will actually look at the emails (rather than deleting immediately) and browse a little bit. I try to request books that I GENUINELY want to read, and I always look at the pub date and ask myself if it is reasonable to read and review the book in this timeframe. Now, I’m not perfect and definitely have some past “due” ARCS to get to, but I do my best to be mindful of what I’m requesting and reading. ✨ WELL LET ME TELL YOU - June felt really far away when I requested this a bunch of books and there’s not likely any way that I’m going to get to them all. (Not all of these have June pub dates, but quite a few do). Also, as I’m on a personal finance journey….the thought of free books that I really wanted to read was super enticing. 🫢 Alas, here we are and I’m feeling pressure to read them and keep it up; I do take “a free book in exchange for an honest review” seriously, because I am truly THANKFUL to be privileged enough to get early access to these books! 💖 With all of that being said, please enjoy my current ARCS in Pinterest-board format. ⬆️ ⁉️QOTD: Do we have any ARCS in common? I've not been in a huge reading mood recently, but luckily I have a pretty large backlog of reviews still to do haha. 📖 Days at The Morisaki Bookshop was a fairly average read for me, but leaning towards positive average rather than negative average. If you're looking for book and coffee shop vibes then this may be for you! For me it lacked depth/substance, so you may be relying on the vibes to pull you through at times, but it's also not very atmospheric due to the writing style. Whether the writing style is down to the author or the translator, I'm not sure, but it definitely lacked a lot. It was very... uninspired, I would say. Quite bland, at least to me. And I'm not sure I can tell you anything about the story, or the point of the story. I think perhaps this is simply not meant to be thought about too much. 📖 I know what I have said sounds fairly negative, but I had fun with this and I did enjoy the vibes when they were available!
