“Courage like that shown by Abinadi, who suffered death rather than recant his testimony, is needed today.” - Neal A. Maxwell I've pondered these questions as I've studied Come, Follow Me this week: 1. How can I show courage like Abinadi in my daily life? 2. How can I strengthen my testimony and faith each day? 3. How can I better face adversity with courage and faith? I love Abinadi and his example of courage. Every time I read his account, I want to improve my life. The adversary is really good at making bad things seem good and good things seem bad. He is a liar. His sole purpose is to destroy our souls and prevent us from living with Heavenly Father again. How pathetic.....just like King Noah. Our world needs more courage. Courage to stand up for what's right. This is what Abinadi was teaching us, without ever saying a word. His actions showed us how to be brave and stand firm in our testimony of the Savior. I love the Book of Mormon! ------ #GeneralConference #ldsconf #JesusChrist #sharegoodness #lds #bookofmormon #comefollowme #strivetobe

Finally crossed Book Of Mormon off the list of shows I want to see! . Downside is I ended up sat next to a couple that felt the need to talk for the whole show, so I'm two for two in less than ideal theatre experiences this week 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Plus side, it's means I've got a good excuse to see it again . #bookofmormon #bookofmormonmusical #londontheatre #westend #westendlondon #london

JUST A VERSE 5/17/24 we are in Alma... talking about caring for the poor and not turning anyone away. I love this quote from JRH "And I know we can each do something, however small that act may seem to be. We can pay an honest tithe and give our fast and free-will offerings, according to our circumstances. And we can watch for other ways to help. To worthy causes and needy people, we can give time if we don’t have money, and we can give love when our time runs out. We can share the loaves we have and trust God that the cruse of oil will not fail." CONSIDER HOW YOU ARE POOR? HOW YOU HAVE BEEN SERVED? AND WHAT YOU HAVE TO SHARE WITH SOMEONE IN NEED THIS WEEK? #justaverse #scripture #bookofmormon #cfm #service #lds

Oftentimes, when I think of Jesus Christ, I think of Him as the great peace maker and the compassionate Savior that I know and love- He is definitely those things! But sometimes I forget that Christ is a warrior. When Zeniff and his army are in battle with the lamanites he credits their victory over them to being "strengthened by the Lord to battle" (Mosiah 10:10) I thought about all of the times my Savior has gone into battle with me. When we were in the thick of our infertility diagnosis and treatments, I remember feeling like I was literally battling for my future family. And although sometimes it was hard to see while in the middle of it, I can look back and see Christ by my side, fighting my battles with me, and sometimes for me. We face a lot of "battles" in life. Battles for our children Battles for our marriages Battles for our health Battles for our faith Luckily for us, we have the greatest warrior ready and willing to go into any battle with us. A perfect warrior who can equip us with strength beyond our own and who has already fought and knows how to win our battles. "For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me" (Psalms 18:39) Art by:@kevincardenart #jesuschrist #comefollowme #comefollowm2024 #bookofmormonstudy #bookofmormon #scripturestudy #scriptureinsights #lds #byu #seekfindbecome

Hi Group, In Mosiah 15, (148 BC), Abinadi’s message to King Noah and his wicked priests continued. In V1-4, Christ would come to earth to redeem God’s people. Within the Godhead Christ and His Father are one in purpose; Christ being subjected to the will of His Father in the flesh. As such, Christ represents the Father in the flesh. (Note: By divine investiture of authority, Jesus Christ, the Son of God acts for and speaks as one with His Father). In V5-9, Abinadi recounted the mission, miracles, crucifixion and atonement of Christ, referring to Isaiah’s words. (See Isaiah 53). Christ would be the great intercessor filled with compassion for His people. His mission would be to redeem mankind, and satisfy the demands of justice. In V10-19, Abinadi, again using Isaiah’s words, (Isaiah 53), gave a description of those who are truly the “seed of Christ.” Christ’s seed, (His people), are those who hearken to the words of God’s prophets, and are therefore redeemed of God. Prophets, (and those who exemplify Christ), are Christ’s seed; “they who have published peace, who have brought good tidings of good, who have published salvation; and said unto Zion: Thy God reigneth!” (V14). The phrase, “how beautiful upon the mountains” appears four times in V15-18, referring to those who publish peace and bring good tidings of Christ to the world. Christ was prepared for His mission of redemption, “from the foundation of the world,” or mankind would have perished. (V19). In V20, Christ would break the bands of death and hold the keys to resurrection of all people. In 21-23, the “First resurrection” was Christ’s resurrection. After the second coming of Christ there will also be a “first resurrection” for the righteous people who lived after Christ’s day. (See Mormon Doctrine, (p. 639). In V24, those who died without knowledge of the gospel before Christ, will take part in the 1st Resurrection, and will be redeemed by the Lord. In V25, little children will have eternal life. In V26-27, those who willfully rebel against Christ, will not take part in the 1st Resurrection. The Lord “cannot deny justice when it has its claim.” (V27). (CONT IN NEXT COMMENT)

Hi Group, In Mosiah 14, Abinadi bore a powerful testimony of the Savior’s mission and atonement by quoting Isaiah 53, to King Noah and his wicked Priests. (Isaiah 53 is a spiritual “go to” for focus meditation during the sacrament. Try it sometime). In V1-5, the Savior, as a “tender plant,” with no form of comeliness, was despised and rejected by His people. He was acquainted with and bore our grief and would carry our sorrows, but was esteemed not. He was wounded for our sins. In V6-12, we are all like sheep that have gone astray, sinners, in need of a Savior. Christ suffered the greatest injustice, quietly, for us, a lamb to the slaughter. He is our great intercessor to Heavenly Father. Application today? In V5, Abinadi quoted Isaiah stating, “He, (Christ), was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities...with His stripes we are healed.” These precious words mean that Jesus Christ’s suffered so that we may be healed from our sins, our infirmities, the Fall of Adam and Eve, and both spiritual and physical death. Pres. Dallin H. Oakes stated, “He knows of our anguish, and He is there for us. Like the good Samaritan in His parable, when He finds us wounded at the wayside, He binds up our wounds and cares for us. Brothers and sisters, the healing power of His Atonement is for you, for us, for all.” (Oct. 2006). With love, Dawna

“Abinadi’s disguise,” by James Dewey. Abinadi called the people of wicked King Noah to repent, and they rejected him. Two years later, he returned “in disguise” (Mosiah 12:1), but his candid soul couldn’t resist revealing his real name and declaring his urgent message. Later, he shone Moses-like with power (Mosiah 13:5) until he completed his mission, and then his captors sentenced him unjustly to death by fire. 🔥 Remarks by @jeffreyrholland in the recent General Conference @churchofjesuschrist struck me as similarly sacred and bold. After Elder Holland’s wife Pat died and after his own near-death experience, Elder Holland returned to the land of the living with “with more urgency, more consecration, more focus on the Savior, more faith in His word.” 🔥 Elder Holland named his talk “Motions of a Hidden Fire” (after a phrase in the hymn “Prayer Is the Soul’s Sincere Desire Hymns”). It was Abinadi’s hidden fire of testimony that caused him to risk his life and discard his disguise. It was Pat Holland’s hidden fire that guided her life of wisdom, service, and faith. It is Elder Holland’s hidden fire that urges him forward despite his grief. 🔥 I have long admired Abinadi’s integrity. I have long admired Elder and Sister Holland’s zeal. I give thanks for those who refuse to hide the fire of their testimony. 🔥 #abinadi #mosiah #bookofmormon #comefollowme #bookofmormonart #bookofmormonpoetry #comefollowmebookofmormon #comefollowmepoetry #comefollowme2024 #comefollowmeart #comefollowup

Right now, on the home page of @ldsliving you can read an article I wrote about a lesson I learned from a Jewish man at the Western Wall. When I asked about his experience with the Sabbath growing up, I learned that the rules in his home were very strict: no turning lights on or off, no cooking, no television; or even opening the refrigerator. I asked him, “When you were 16 years old, were you ever tempted to rebel against these strict Sabbath rules?” He looked at me like I was from another planet and said, “Why would I want to disrupt the Sabbath? It is a holy day; I love the Sabbath because it gives me a time for peace and renewal. The Sabbath is a delight. Why would I want to make it a less holy day?” I realized I had a lot to learn from this man. On another occasion, a Jewish man told me that when people see Sabbath observance as “strict rules” they miss the point. He said, “It’s not denial, it’s liberation. For example, one can’t answer the phone on Shabbat. Learning this discipline teaches also ignoring the phone when eating dinner with family and other more important’ activities. It’s not strict, it focuses on what’s important, family and community.” What do you think about my friend’s statement, “It’s not denial, it’s liberation”? What lessons have you learned from others about keeping the Sabbath Day holy?

If laws and commandments aren’t what save us, why do we follow them? Abinadi tackled this question in Mosiah 13 when he was teaching (and criticizing) King Noah and his priests. He says in Mosiah 13:28: “Salvation doth not come by the law alone; and were it not for the atonement, which God himself shall make for the sins and iniquities of his people, that they must unavoidably perish”. Commandments help point us to our ultimate salvation: Jesus Christ! So if that is the purpose of commandments, what is one commandment where you’ve really made that connection for how obeying it helps you remember and points you toward your Savior?

🚨 This changed everything…. Treat People Like Jesus Died for Them…because He did! ♥️ I created a free poster for you. Comment “KINDNESS” in the comments and the link will be sent to you. How does this change the way you treat people and situations? When we remember that each soul is of great worth in the sight of God, we begin to see others through the compassionate eyes of our Savior. Dieter F. Uchtdorf once urged us to “see the magnificence in others,” reminding us that Jesus’s ultimate act of love was His sacrifice for each individual. By treating others with kindness, respect, and love, we honor that sacrifice and reflect Christ’s light in our daily interactions. President Thomas S. Monson taught, “Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved”. This profound counsel reminds us to prioritize our relationships and to see the divine potential in every individual. As we do so, we honor the sacrifice of our Savior and help others feel His love. Let us commit to treating each person we encounter as someone for whom Jesus Christ died. Let our words be kind, our actions be compassionate, and our hearts be filled with the pure love of Christ. In doing so, we can create a ripple effect of goodness that can touch countless lives and bring us closer to our Heavenly Father. May we always remember the Savior’s infinite love for us and strive to reflect that love in all that we do. I know that as we do this, we will feel an increase in the Spirit in our lives and witness miracles in our relationships with others. #churchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #comefollowme #jesuschrist #bookofmormon #latterdaysaints #sharegoodness #generalconference #churchofjesuschrist #hearhim #ldschurch #ldstemples #thechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #ldsquotes #comeuntochrist #strivetobe #becauseofhim #ldsliving #ldsyouth #ldsconf #latterdaysaint #ldslife #ldsmissionary #jesus #christian

“President Russell M. Nelson has taught that when we choose to make covenants with God, our relationship with Him can become much closer than it was before our covenant, and it enables Him to bless us with an extra measure of His mercy and love, a covenantal love referred to as hesed in the Hebrew language. The covenant path is all about our relationship with God—our hesed relationship with Him.Our Father wants a deeper relationship with all His sons and daughters, but it is our choice. As we choose to draw nearer to Him through a covenant relationship, it allows Him to draw nearer to us and more fully bless us.God sets the conditions and obligations of the covenants we make. When we choose to enter into that relationship, we witness to Him, through the symbolic actions of each covenant, that we are willing to abide by the conditions He has set. Through honoring our covenants, we enable God to pour out the multitude of promised blessings associated with those covenants, including increased power to change and become more like our Savior. Jesus Christ is at the center of all covenants we make, and covenant blessings are made possible because of His atoning sacrifice.” (Sister J. As I read these last few verses, a scene from the movie Titanic came to mind. In this seen, Mr. Andrews, who built the ship, informs some of the wealthy people of the iceberg strike and tells them the ship will sink. One of the guests replies, “this ship can’t sink”, because they believed it was the mightiest made ship and was unsinkable. To this, Mr. Andrews replies, “she is made of iron. I assure you she can, and she will”. We should not be so proud in our minds of the strength of the United States (Gentiles) to believe that it is “unsinkable”, especially against the power of God, because of our unrighteousness. #JesusChrist #thechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #ChurchOfJesusChristOfLatterDaySaints #FollowChrist #Preparedness #Prepare #Trust #TrustGod #HearHim #Hearken #Joy #Happy #Happiness #Remember #Faithful #ThinkCelestial #Repent #Repentance #Warning #TheBookOfMormon #BookOfMormon #LatterDaySurvivalGuide

Abinadi calls out King Noah and his priests for what they are: Liars. As you can imagine, they didn't take kindly to what Abinadi had to say. What was Abinadi's response? He tells them they are only angry because he has spoken the truth to them. What happens next is some of the most beautiful scripture ever recorded. We have Abinadi's testimony, and it is powerful. The wicked take the truth to be hard. It's been this way from the beginning of time and will be until the Savior comes. This reminded me of something I experienced in my own life. Years ago, when I was single, I lived with three roommates. One of those roommates pointed out something I was doing that they considered wrong. Can you guess my response? My immediate response was anger, and I snapped back at this roommate. I told him to mind his own business and left it at that. It was still eating at me days later, and I couldn't get it off my mind. It bothered me so much that I brought it up with a good friend. Can you guess his response? He agreed with my roommate and pointed out that, based on my reaction, he knew what I was doing was wrong. The comment wouldn't have bothered me so much if I wasn't doing anything wrong. He was right. I knew I had to make it right with my roommate. We had a chance to talk a few days later, and I apologized. I told him I respected him for being so bold as to call me out. He told me he only said something because he felt prompted. I wasn't expecting that. At that moment, I knew heaven was nudging me on the shoulder to enact change in my life. I thanked my roommate. How did it end for me? I immediately enacted change in my life. And, you know what? My life improved....almost immediately. I am so thankful for my roommate, who was bold enough to help me be better. This is precisely what Abinadi was trying to do. Angry or not, he was going to tell the truth. ------ #GeneralConference #ldsconf #JesusChrist #sharegoodness #lds #bookofmormon #comefollowme #strivetobe

"Behold, I say unto you, that when his soul has been made an offering for sin he shall see his seed. And now what say ye? And who shall be his seed? "Behold I say unto you, that whosoever has heard the words of the prophets, yea, all the holy prophets who have prophesied concerning the coming of the Lord—I say unto you, that all those who have hearkened unto their words, and believed that the Lord would redeem his people, and have looked forward to that day for a remission of their sins, I say unto you, that these are his seed, or they are the heirs of the kingdom of God." –Mosiah 15:10–11

Christ is the ultimate message of hope. Death need not be the end. All living things eventually die. Because of Him, we can live again. The people and relationships we have are eternal. They really do matter, and they always will because of what Christ did for us. In the words of Abinadi "He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death." (Mosiah 16:9) Christ gives life meaning. He gives us eternity.

Once, when a reporter tried to recognize Mother Teresa for her life’s mission to help the poor, she responded: “It’s [God’s] work. I am like a… pencil in his hand. …He does the thinking. He does the writing. The pencil has nothing to do with it. The pencil has only to be allowed to be used.” What beautiful imagery. This is God’s work. His words, His acts, His purposes. We are truly just the instruments. The question is, are we willing to be used? Are we willing to stay sharp, so that He can most easily “write” through us? What does that look like? To me, that means working hard to be in tune with the Holy Spirit at all times- ready to be His instrument whenever we are needed. It means being willing to be sharpened, which often happens by being ground down; allowing the old, inhibitory parts of our lives to be whittled away so that we can be focused on the Lord and doing His errand. As we allow this to happen, as we let Him strip away the parts of our lives that are keeping our “lead” from being sharp, and as we learn to love being that pencil through which He writes, I am confident that we will discover a particular type of joy that perhaps we’ve never known. So let’s be willing. Let’s let Him sharpen us and use us to create beauty in this world. 🤍 Art by @_caitlinconnolly_ . . . . . . . #jesuschrist #faith #churchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #mormon #lds #ldsmissionaries #comefollowme #cfm #ldsconf #byu #bookofmormon #generalconference #christianinspiration #genconf

There is a Warrior in all of us. It is usually taught out of us as we grow up and is buried deep down inside until life comes along and unleashes that inner Warrior. God teaches us to control that Warrior but not to eliminate it fully from our lives. Some of the greatest Servants of God were Warriors. Who fought like lions. I implore all including myself to train to be a Warrior in Spirit and Body. This life is what we make of it. The scriptures have taught me this year that it's okay to be both spiritual and a warrior. #SteadfastWarrior #ldsdads #ComeFollowMe #BookofMormon #Warriors

Have you ever read the Old Testament?? That book is WACK 🥴 Every person should follow God’s plan for them individually. But for me, Old Testament laws are not the way. #ldsfeminist #oldtestamentstudy #jesuschrist #savedbygrace #christian #hearher #bookofmormon #churchofjesuschrist #churchofjesuschristtemples

Mosiah 3:19 “The natural man is an enemy to God” What’s the natural man? In my opinion it’s the lower self. The self sabotaging. The version of yourself that’s scared to level up. If you think I’m preaching to the choir, 100%. I’m my own worst enemy, and I’m going to go ahead and guess likely you are yours too. Or is it just me? The natural man is the version of me that didn’t want to show up to the gym this morning. The version that said it’s raining outside, you’ll have to shower again, there’s that new show on Netflix you wanted to keep binging, you could keep trying to clean the office (even though you know you wouldn’t anyways). Call it the enemy, the adversary, your lower self, whatever you want to call it but I think it’s the version of yourself, or the version of you that’s willing to keep listening to the voice that’s that’s keeping you from becoming the best version of yourself. The best parent you can be, the healthiest you can be, the best friend you can be. It’s the version of you that’s found comfort in being a slave of your lower self. The version that is keeping you from the person you were destined to become. From Hugh Jackman in the greatest showman “Comfort, the enemy of progress.” You weren’t born to simply be. You were born to become. We are never stagnant. Like my 8 year old wisely inspired us “don’t get worce” 😉 and don’t worry, I’m well aware that’s incorrectly spelled, but his wisdom tops the spelling and I’m going with it. If you feel compelled to correct the spelling, let me proactively thank you for your engagement on my post. It helps more than you know 🫶🏻😉 #bookofmormon #lds #ldsquote #naturalman #levelup #gettingbetter #become #youarelight #fitness

We study the scriptures so the Holy Ghost, the great teacher, can deepen our conversion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and help us become more like Them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mark L. This includes the tests and trials that He gives us as we pass through this life. It is all done out of love. . The Savior allowed Himself to be punished for every single one of your sins, as well as suffer the agonies of YOUR life, individually. So why would He not continue to display that love now? . . . . . . #lds #bookofmormon #sharegoodness #mormons #christian #imamormon #ldsquote #ldsconf #christians #ldsblogger #mormonblogger #quoteoftheday #thechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #latterdaysaint #latterdaysaints #goodnews #ldsquoteoftheday #ldsquotesforyou #sharegoodness #lighttheworld #hearHim #mormon #christianquotes #mormonquotes #ldsconfquotes #generalconferencequotes #ldsblog

Concept art for a forthcoming book about Nephite military commander Captain Moroni, understood to have lived somewhere in the pre-contact (pre-Columbian) Americas, around 100BC. The author provided research and archeological images, and according to the history recorded in the Book of Mormon, it is said that Captain Moroni set about readying the Nephite people of Jershon for war by implementing body armor for the first time. It is believed that the materials would have been primarily hammered copper and steel, hardwood, leathers and skins, heavy woven cloth, and feathers of the birds of the time (turkey and quetzal).
