I can't believe I get to say I was at Zion twice...in a month. Even more so I got to revisit it with family(My brother and sister-in-law had a vacation planned months ago and the timelines just worked out with my location). The last two days have been some of the most blessed I've felt in recent memory, if not ever. This trip just gets more and more surreal. Especially the personal encounter with the rattlesnake that took stance, hissed and rattled at me then took off into some shrubs. For as long as I can remember my sister @nicolenord83 has been a willing, albeit reluctant, participant in many of the adventures I’ve cooked up. She’s climbed mountains with me, tried foods she would never normally consider, and gone to many questionable places…and she’s done it all with a smile. Through all the years, there’s been one big hike she’s always wanted to do. Climb Angels Landing. A few days ago we did just that. We drove numerous hours through the desert, slept in the middle of nowhere, entered Zion long before the sun was up, got to the trailhead as early as we could, and hiked. Angels Landing is no joke. The exposure is extreme, the trail narrow, and the crowds at time thick. It is also stunningly beautiful, awe-inspiring, and makes you feel alive in a way only such a dangerous activity can. Zion National Park is by far the most peaceful and spiritual place I have ever experienced. The cottonwoods were creating a snow like feel as they were releasing their spring cotton. There was a mist in the air from the random rain showers. The mountains and rocks were dark with the change in humidity. Zion National Park got its name from Mormon pioneers who arrived in the area in the 1800s and dubbed the region "Zion," which translates to "sanctuary" or "refuge" in ancient Hebrew. But the path to its final name was as meandering as its beautiful canyons. Nomadic American Indian groups visited the area for thousands of years and likely had many names for the landscape. The Southern Paiute called it "Mukuntuweap," which means "straight canyon." In 1909, President Taft set aside about 16,000 acres for Mukuntuweap National Monument. In 1918, the monument was renamed Zion National Monument. In 1919, the name changed again to Zion National Park. On January 22, 1937, President Roosevelt established a second Zion National Monument, preserving over 36,000 acres. What a weekend! I had the incredible opportunity to run the Zion Ragnar Relay with some really fantastic women. It was SO HARD, and cold, and wet.... but I'd do it all over again. If you're not familiar, a Ragnar race is a team relay that spans about 120 miles. Our team of 8 took turns running three loops, two of which scaled literal mountains. The race doesn't stop, so our team passed the bib off in the middle of the night, through rain showers, and when we really thought we couldn't do another leg. We also camped for the weekend, squeezing in sleep when we could (rarely). But we did it! And it felt GOOD. Doing things that take you out of your comfort zone is essential for growth. You can't go any higher if you never take the next step up. I encourage you to do something that scares you a bit- you'll be empowered in body, mind, and heart. What a great day, we arrived at Zion National Park around 8 am and the lot was fully some turned around and found parking elsewhere, we were about .4 miles from the visitors center so we walked the rest of the way. Hoped on the shuttle, they really packed you in, and rode all the way to stop 9 the narrows, the first mile was open for hiking but after that it was closed. We then walked all the way back to the lodge. There is no trail or maintained trail from stop 9 the narrows to the Grotto stop 6 but there is a walking path for 90% of the way, we ended up on the road a few times but we really enjoyed the walk. A total of 8 miles for today. We would not have been able to get the views we did riding in the bus. #rvlife #rvliving #flamingomooncampers #zionnationalpark

Continuing the story from my last post but one... This was our second day in Zion National Park. We had completed the Emerald Pools and Riverside Walk Trails the previous day having been unlucky in the ballot for the opportunity to hike Angel's Landing. On day two however, it was a different story. Here we are pictured at the star of the hike, known as the most deadly hike in the US. The night before I'd surprised the gang having managed to secure permits in the lottery. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the whole trip.
