Zion National Park ✅ 23/63 In awe of the beauty I was surrounded by these last two days at the park. Driving through the tunnel into the park entrance was a stunning surprise and it reminded me of entering Yosemite NP. The pictures don’t do these towering canyons justice but experiencing it all was everything I’ve ever imagined and more. Even driving through the Zion-Mt Carmel Highway is absolutely breath taking! 🤩 I hiked the West Rim Trail that leads to Angel’s Landing but could not go all the way up without a permit - there’s always next time! I also hiked to the start of The Narrows which was closed due to high rushing waters, again, there’s always a next time! Other stops included views of The Watchman, the Court of the Patriarchs, Temple of Sinawava, The Grotto and scenes along the Virgin River. 🏞️☀️ I lucked out exploring the park before peak season, and even though it was still crowded it did not seem overwhelming and I still had a lot of alone time hiking the trails. (The hardest trails are the least busy fyi 😉) But the only way to explore Zion Scenic Drive and get to the popular hiking trails is by shuttle bus. That was one “inconvenience” I encountered, but as long as you are prepared for the day then no problem! The shuttles come often and there are multiple stops to see the entire park! Plus, it’s nice not having backed up traffic and not worrying about trying to find a parking spot! Speaking of parking spots… any and all spots on the side of the roads fill up quick and so does the visitor center. On my second day I spent 45 minutes driving around trying to find a spot. Go early or go late in the day for the best chance, or park in the town of Springdale to shuttle in! 🤩3 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE HIKING THE NARROWS:🤩 1. Use a hiking pole! This would have made my Narrows hiking experience 10x better. Trying to walk through the river on the slippery, unstable rocks without a hiking pole was a CHALLENGE to say the least😭🤣 (I’m sure most people would take a hiking pole, but as a beginner hiker, I didn’t know any better lolll) 2. Wear water shoes!! When we hiked in June 2021, most of the hike was in ankle to knee deep water. BEFORE you hike, check for flash flood warnings, the current river levels, and weather conditions. 3. You will have to ride the Zion Canyon Shuttle from the visitor center to the Temple of Sinawava to get to the trailhead for the Narrows. Day 2. What do you do when #thenarrows are closed? You go to the mini Narrows! Located just outside the park in the Spring Creek WSA, Kanarra Falls is a series of waterfalls in a beautiful, small slot creek. We were hiking in the creek most of the way, and the payoff was incredible. We had a great time and would definitely go back if we're in the area again.

Day Two: Zion Nat’l Park. Up at the ass crack to beat the crowds and conquer Angel’s Landing. A beautiful, steep incline hike up to the peak, 1870ft elevation gain. The b’day Gods blessed us and we hit the permit lottery. It’s needed for the final section of the hike… climbing along a spine with drop-offs on either side. Still featuring Zion National Park this adventure back in 2017 was my second time kayaking through the Narrows of the Virgin River. One of the most dramatic and beautiful locations I have ever been kayaking! Though the whitewater in there is not super hard it is the most committing place I’ve ever been boating. Once you’re in the depths there’s no way out with totally vertical walls. It’s dark, cold, and we had to portage a few dozen times, some easy walk arounds while some complex wood piles requiring hauling boats up and over. Once the whitewater picks up the lead boater is super aware of the chance of strainers with very few eddies and still water. We spent 2-days so we were self supported with our overnight gear in our kayaks and they were heavy. This stretch of river is usually hiked as there’s only enough water to kayak in there occasionally maybe a couple times a decade. The park has strict regulations of when you can run it and they do not “patrol” the river as the climbing and canyoneering keep the rangers busy. Rescue from outside help is pretty much nonexistent! It’s been such a crazy week! On Monday I celebrated my 25th birthday, which while exciting, sounds crazy to say that I’m halfway to 30. One of my absolute favorite hikes. The Narrows. Hiking through the ice cold water is therapeutic for your legs. The canyon is incredibly deep. 2000+ feet to be exact. Just a dream. 10/10 would do again. The first shot was a 30 second long exposure. But the trick is keeping the camera steady in the middle of a flowing river. The second shot is the BTS. Needless to say, I didn’t skip leg day that day 😮💨
Zion National Park is something else! 🤩 About 3 weeks ago while visiting the southwest, I didn't get the Angels Landing Permit so I hiked the Observation Point Trail instead. The view was unbelievable. The trail was almost empty (I did start pretty early) and since the parking lot is basically the back door to Zion, you avoid having to take the shuttle and the boards of people. Highly recommend if you make your way to Zion and want the views you get at Angels Landing. Zion National Park. It’s early May. The temperature of the Virgin River is 44°. You will not be able to hike the Narrows Trail yet as the water flow is still too strong due to spring snow melt. However, you can take a gentle 1 mile out and 1 mile back hike along the river to the start of the Narrows. We were fortunate enough to have hiked the Narrows last year in the heat of the summer. Hiking the Narrows in Zion National Park never gets old. In the dead of winter, there are only a few people in there, especially during the week. This past January, we hit it on a warm spell (60’s in Springdale) with very low water levels. The colder it is, the more beautiful it gets with icicles, ice falls and snow. While we didn't see the ice falls or many icicles this time, it was still incredible. The deepest Virgin River crossing, seen here with @laurideyoung, is just downstream of Mystery Canyon and Falls. It’s always cooler in the Narrows due to limited sunlight and ‘effing Alaska cold, water! But, it's still worth going. TOW Zion Dump! At the peak of my fitness, luckily, we decided to do our Zion escapade! We got super lucky because we were able to do everything on our bucket list - The Narrows, Angel’s Landing and a couple of other things. Angel’s Landing. Not going to lie, the hike was strenuous! The rapid elevation gain wasn’t to my advantage either. But thankfully, I was fit and was able to do it in about 2.5 hours ish. I did take my breaks every now and then and slowed down @vamsi_godavarti but he cooperated really well :p We had our hydration backpacks filled with electrolyte water which really helped in the peak heat. 💯 will recommend it! The really steep stairway with chains was the best part, a little scary because it was steep but exhilarating nonetheless. This is a great hike that exceeded expectations! Also we were lucky to get the permit to hike, so you’ll have to prebook and wait to be picked for the hike! The Narrows. We were lucky enough as the flood warning was just lifted off and we were able to walk the narrows! The water was refreshingly cool in the hot summer weather. The narrowest section of the Zion canyon was so beautiful to see. The water level was increasing as we kept going further. We did not finish the narrows but we turned around after the water level reached an acceptable level for our bodies :p It was a tad bit difficult to walk in the water as it expends a lot more energy! It was a very grounding experience to hike through the Narrows! Zion was such a great place and I am glad we were able to go while we could! It’s amazing to see how water cut through the rock to make this beautiful canyon!!!
