This is what it looks like when your 25+ years in business, psychology, contemplative practice, and the healing arts come together... Goodbye yoga pants, hello multiple company polos. Lol Seriously though, the question that's been on my heart for years is how do we really change a capitalist patriarchal culture? Bottom up strategies include protesting, boycotting, writing letters, quitting jobs, filing lawsuits, starting nonprofits, and screaming on social media. These are all important, but they are slow to affect change. There is no time to waste. We need top down strategies now. We need systemic and organizational change that starts with the highest levels of management. It's the only way to shift corporate culture which as we know, impacts all of society. I'm ready to step up and step into that challenge. I'm currently a facilitating stress and pain management seminars for companies both in person and online. I'm also listening to employees, and writing letters to their HR directors on their behalf when policied is are not supportive of people. This is where I'm starting. It's a new approach to affecting necessary change. It's time to be fierce about the value of people over profits. ✊🏽 Now, you might be wondering if this is the end of my yoga career. When do we say enough is enough and demand legislation to reduce plastic use? We now have plastic filtering quite literally into all aspects of life. We can close our eyes and pretend it has no effect and keep lining the pockets of those choosing to use it over alternatives. Or we can pressure governments and corporations for change. Recycling is the magical cure sold to us all but the reality remains, that only 9% of plastics produced ever get recycled. And even then, they are almost always downgraded to a lower quality plastic making them unsuitable for a circular economy (unlike glass and metals). I want better for future generations and I've every faith you do too. So sign the petitions asing companies to reduce plastic when you see them, contact your MPs when you have a spare 5 minutes and support charities when they run campaigns or events to highlight the problems ( @keepnorthernirelandbeautiful and @greenpeaceuk are great charities to follow). We are so proud of the young people in the Ambassador Mentorship program, both on Mt. Elgon and in Nairobi. As the team and mentors have poured into their lives, they, in turn, are committed to making a difference in the lives of those who come behind them. One such young man is Seth Kibet, a beneficiary of the Empower Hope Scholarship Fund on Mt. Elgon. Last year he successfully joined Laikipia University and is pursuing a degree in criminology and security studies. (We have shared some of his story in previous posts.) Seth has decided to use his time over his long school break to give back to the Mt. Elgon mentorship program. As young men and women wait to join colleges and universities, they gather together for ongoing training in the Ambassador program. Here Seth trains, encourages, and even counsels them. "I was a client of a Tad James Company graduate back in 2015, and feel like it cracked me open, exposing self-worth and self-compassion I hadn’t been able to find on my own prior. I loved the shifts I felt in my life following those coaching sessions, and how it put me back into feeling like I was driving the wheel of my own life.
