In celebration of Mother’s Day, we pay tribute to the significant role that the Queen Bee plays to a bee colony. The Queen Bee is the birth mother of most of her colony. She can lay about 1,000 eggs per day, including drones and worker bees, during the peak of summer. The Queen gives off a pheromone that the colony senses and brings them together to work in harmony. Without a Queen, the colony would not survive. Although the bees don’t give her flowers and cards for Mother’s Day, the worker bees gift her plenty of pollen, nectar and feed her multiple times her weight in Royal Jelly.
