I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Field Experience. We took 15 Changemakers from the college to experience the three cornerstones of Narrow Ridge first hand—Community, Sustainability, and Spirituality. During the experience, we learned about sustainable living practices, the necessity of community, and the diverse spiritual practices of each member of the community—all of which add more color to the beautiful mystery of life. Ultimately, we learned that love and appreciation for Earth and for other beings, human and non-human, along with stewardship of these relationships, is integral to maximizing our positive impact and leaving behind a legacy we can all be proud of. From climbing vines and rocks to reading, note-taking, and reflective writing, from working in the garden to eating Tina's soul-satisfying meals, from our day hike learning about all of the edible plants and history of the area to our swim across the lake, from our yoga sessions to the campfire to the music and the dancing, from the knowledgeable, personable community members and the lectures about off-grid living and sustainable building practices to the wisdom, empathy, and hospitality of our hosts, I can surely speak for everyone present that we will never forget the lessons we learned at Narrow Ridge.
