BIGGEST Crown Prince Squash I’ve ever grow! 👀 ‘Crown Prince’ deserves the name in my opinion, as they are my favourite variety of winter squash and are generally just a great all rounder! They have a smooth, silvery-grey skin that contrasts with its bright orange flesh. They have a sweet, nutty taste and a creamy texture that makes them excellent for roasting or adding to soups and stews. Fruits usually grow to around 3-4kg in weight, but this one is well over double, or around the weight of 1 small dog! Challenge 6 - Finally! My cousin Jay @jdnaik74 challenged me to grow my own vegetables & make an entire self sustained meal. Organising, organising, organising. We are slowly getting there. Covered and filled the beginnings of a propagation house built from various bits and pieces. You do not need to have anything fancy to make it work but having a space definitely helps. This is a simple frame, second hand shade cloth and some old militates holding up a piece of old fencing. This will soon be pumping with seedlings and cuttings. And Luisa purchased an old aquaponic unit so we set that up as a bioponic unit to increase propagation strike rate and productivity. The cost of the system was less than the cost of the clay in the system and was a great investment. First harvest of the year! Oh my how peppery home grown raddish are compared to shop bought! Its crazy! I made a smashed salad with raddish, smashed under a knife and roughly cut, salad mizuna and a rocket rough cut, chives with flowers finely chopped, smashed a large garlic clove and soaked in a mix of light soy, dark soy and balsamic vinegar. Served with a beef curry i had i the the slow cooker all day and pilau rice. Bloomin delicious! My Misato Rose Flesh Radishes bolted 😭 I was so excited for these and they were growing so well. Not that I'm complaining about the weather at all! The tomatoes are now out at night (so long as the temp stays around 12 and above). That's meant a big reduction in morning and night faff as I've got around 24 of the things! Around 5 have tomatoes growing on them now and more flowering so hopefully we've almost made it to having early tomatoes. Heute haben wir die vorgezogenen Pflanzen im Garten ausgepflanzt. Weißkohl, Kohlrabi, Brokkoli, Blumenkohl, Steckrübe, Zucchini und Kürbis durften nach draußen in die Beete, die Tomatenpflanzen haben es jetzt gemütlich im Gewächshaus. 🥦🍅 Das erste Mal haben wir in diesem Jahr die Gurkenpflanzen auch nach draußen an ein Rankgerüst gepflanzt. Die letzten Jahre hatten wir immer Probleme mit Spinnmilben an den Gurkenpflanzen im Gewächshaus. My lovely raised beds 🥹 I am so happy with them! My dad and Matthew helped me build the frames, and my mum was on cardboard/cellotape duty! A real family effort 🥰 This area is like my dreams coming to reality, I’ve got a greenhouse packed with plants and now I finally have somewhere for them to go. I just need to fill them 🥲 I’ve got some leftover topsoil which I’m planning on using on top of cardboard. I’ve used damp membrane plastic on the sides to protect the wood and also as the woods treated it will stop any chemical leech. I’ve kept the bottoms open however as I’d like the plants to have the option of as much root space as they need. The access to this corner isn’t great…so I’m going to bite the bullet and order 50L bags of compost for ease. I’ve also got some rose cuttings that I’ll be adding, and anything to bulk them out basically. A little from yesterday🌱☀️ Radish and arugula sown on May 1st, and on the other picture parsnip sowing. I also sowed carrots and planted potatoes yesterday! I’m using dried out grass from the lawn to cover, as this spring is really dry. The cold wet 💦 spring has definitely been a factor which in turn has now caused a bit of a bottle neck in our hardening off area. . The first batch of climbing beans were also planted out. I’ve been struggling with slugs and they’ve been eating everything that I’ve been working my hard to grow, even inside the greenhouse where I thought they would be safe! I don’t have anywhere near as much on the go as I would like for this time of year, but I won’t be beaten, there are still plenty of crops that can be sown and grown! Mischkultur in meinen großen Kübeln im Gewächshaus: vorgestern gepflanzt. So dicht war es noch nie. Hatte sich aber im Herbst bei Kohl und Begleitern bewährt. Zu sehen ist der Kübel mit den Zuckermelonen. Die anderen sind mit Gurken bepflanzt. Bei allen in etwa das gleiche noch mit drinnen: 🔖 Tomaten 🔖 Petersilie 🔖 Basilikum 🔖 Küchenzwiebel für Zwiebelgrün 🔖 Kurkuma 🔖 Ingwer 🔖 Süßkartoffeln (schlecht bewurzelte Stecklinge, da hatte ich neulich nen Beitrag zu) Bei einigen Gurkenkübeln werden noch Lima-, Spaghetti- und Helmbohnen und sowie Mexikanische Minigurke gesteckt.
