Who needs a path! In my attempt to be better at using space I've decided to transplant spring cabbages in the middle of the path in my greenhouse. My thinking is that while the tomato plants are still small I'm hoping I'll get to harvest some cabbage... This might backfire! I've even decided to put multisown radish between the cabbages, in case they were feeling too roomy. The path is quite compacted, as expected, so it's good that they seem happy enough, although brassicas usually are in compacted ground... apparently! Difference between pic 1 and 2 is a week. Pic 3, just after covering the path with horse manure before transplanting the cabbages in. Pic 4 is from 1st April when I'd covered each bed with its mulch of very well rotted horse manure. Pic 5 and 6 is the difference of the week again. Today I picked just over a pound of strawberries from our backyard garden and made small-batch jam—a jar for my mom and a jar for me. This recipe from @kyleecooks requires only 4 ingredients: 1 lb of strawberries, 1 cup of sugar, lemon zest and lemon juice (I zested and juiced a whole lemon). My mom and I are very different and very much the same (Type A). Our perspective on life is different. My lovely raised beds 🥹 I am so happy with them! My dad and Matthew helped me build the frames, and my mum was on cardboard/cellotape duty! A real family effort 🥰 This area is like my dreams coming to reality, I’ve got a greenhouse packed with plants and now I finally have somewhere for them to go. I just need to fill them 🥲 I’ve got some leftover topsoil which I’m planning on using on top of cardboard. I’ve used damp membrane plastic on the sides to protect the wood and also as the woods treated it will stop any chemical leech. I’ve kept the bottoms open however as I’d like the plants to have the option of as much root space as they need. The access to this corner isn’t great…so I’m going to bite the bullet and order 50L bags of compost for ease. I’ve also got some rose cuttings that I’ll be adding, and anything to bulk them out basically. It’s the time of the season.... Elderflower syrup 🍸🍋Recipe below 👩🏻🍳 ELDERFLOWER SYRUP RECIPE INGREDIENTS 25 pieces of elderflower screens or more 1 lemon 1 kilo of sugar per liter of water INSTRUCTIONS 1. Gently shake the elderflower so that any bugs fall out. Please note: do not wash under the tap! 2. Place the elderflowers in a large pan or container and cover with water. Let this sit for 24 hours. 3. Strain the mixture first through a fine sieve and then through cheesecloth. Collect the moisture. Throw away the flowers. 4. Measure how much moisture you have left. Weigh one kilo of sugar per liter of liquid. Place the liquid with the sugar, lemon zest and lemon juice in a pan and bring to the boil. Let this simmer gently until all the sugar has dissolved. 5. Remove the lemon peel and pour the syrup into a clean preserving bottle and seal. 6. Store the syrup in a dry and cool place. Ok so I shouldn't have said that about no vomiting yesterday since of course the little one puked in his bed about 30min after I wrote that. 🤢 But at least he only vomited once and not for 12h like his brother. On the positive side is that we have two little ducklings and five more hatching by the looks of it. One sadly died after just a few hours of trying to peck a hole in the shell so I hope the rest will make it 😍 We have one Indian runner duck couple and three Cayuga ducks and two Cayuga drakes so I hope we will get some pure bread Cayugas. They look absolutely amazing with their black and green feathers ❤️ The ducks have now saved 10 eggs in their duck house but no one seems interested in lying there so we will move them to our hatcher too when all the eggs have hatched. I have now moved out my tomatoes but since we had only +1 degree Celsius this morning I have covered them in lots of blankets so I really hope we don't get any frost 🥶 It looks like tonight is the last day with risk of frost until end of May so keep your fingers crossed. I don't dare to have them in the greenhouse in their pots all day when I'm at work since they dry out really easily and I can't afford buying 72 tomato plants. They cost 40-50kr/each in the shops and I don't trust my husband with carrying them from the greenhouse and out either 😅 Oh, I have two little buddies in my greenhouse so I must be really careful when moving things in there. Started building a new composter today which we are going to add planters on top and a surprise round the sides, also built a trellis for the runner beans to run up and continued turning the soil to flatten the land for baby girls area 🤩💚🌿 !!

🍅 After taking lots of care to germinate various tomato seeds, and raise them in the comfort of a sunny bedroom window, then worry about them when they are taken to the greenhouse (rushing every morning to make sure they’ve survived the night), then potting on to make sure they get fresh compost and don’t get potbound 🫣 we always get a big bunch of random seedlings growing in the homemade compost, obviously growing from a composted tomato 🤣 . I hope I haven't been lured into too much of a false sense of security by this weeks sunshine and warmth! Never one to follow the rules and make it up as I go along, I have planted out the first of this years veg. Two different tomato varieties, one sweet pepper, a courgette, mini cucumbers and some sweetcorn. Eeeeeek I may regret it in a week!! I'm hoping the extra time and space outdoors will go in my favour come harvest time. Also would ya just look at all the flowers and thus berries on my strawberry plants. The badger proof fences continues to do their jobs and the plants are thriving. The fourth and final new raised bed has been covered in butterfly netting. This bed has only been half plants so far just waiting for a few of my seedlings to grow a little bigger. Chilis im Mai 🌶️ Die verschiedenen Sorten haben echt unterschiedliche Wachstums-Stadien! Ganz vorn war die Pellegrino mit der ersten Schote. Mein diesjähriger Favorit Carolina Reaper schwächelt leider etwas und hat auch noch keine Blüte gebildet.
