Tijd om de tomaten in de vollegrond te zetten 🎊 Mooie dag voor gekozen, de temperatuur in de kas liep lekker op ☀️ De grond was al voorbereid (oude grond verrijkt met wormenmest en lavameel), de touwtjes had ik gisteravond opgehangen, dus konden nu de planten in de grond. Gat maken, touwtje erin leggen, plant in het gat, onderste bladeren weghalen, water geven, grond weer terugvegen, plant om het touwtje slalommen en niet vergeten een labeltje erbij te plaatsen. En repeat, een stuk of 30 keer 😅 De tussenruimtes goed benut voor pepers, struiktomaatjes en tagetes - en een schaduwstrookje maar ingeplant met sla, binnen staat dat veiliger dan in de moestuin, slaktechnisch. 🧅🧅🧅 for all the internet meanies out there who hated on my reel about replanting onions that had sprouted in my pantry- this onion bulb and greens harvest is all from one Vidalia onion from my pantry that had gone bad (I just planted this one whole and didn't separate the individual bulblets). I probably could have left it to grow a little more but I accidentally cut a bulb when I was harvesting the fava beans so decided to pull it out and use it for recipes this week! Gardening is supposed to be fun- experiment and see what happens! I also picked all of my fava/broad beans 🫘 and then pulled the plants to make room for pole beans. The ranunculus are looking so pretty in the May sunshine, and the colours are amazing. The corms I planted are last years, and the only one thats not completely different is the dark pink. The bright yellow and orange are complete surprises, but I think they’re stunning 🥰. They’re only little at the moment, but are perfectly formed, with plenty more colours to burst through from the buds that are starting to open. Beautiful orange-tip butterfly and aubreita. Love this little butterfly. Another lovely day this week and i sorted my herb patch out. Sage was taking over and smothering everything in it's way. Had to go rescue the oregano and chives are looking miserable and thyme has had a bit of frost bite. All nicely mulched and watered. Rosemary at the back has grown massive. Lots of garlic in there too looking good. Had a lovely very long run too and that's it the day is gone. Lupins and alliums are just looking more and more glorious every day. So some time has to be spent admiring them every day. Some of you were blessed to see Aurora Borealis last night. What an amazing feeling it must have been! I can only imagine. I had no idea. Loving seeing all the photos on feed today. It just shows how deeply we are connected with nature. How it excites us, inspires us and sends us in awe! And that it is truly what we have now - nature, our planet and our solar system. Amazing! Look after our home, this planet. Grow organic! Finally, my tomato plants are ready to prick out and pot on!🌱 It feels like it's been a long wait this year. After the excitement of building our little second hand greenhouse, the weather just hasn't been sunny enough to warm it up. I was late sowing my tomatoes anyway and was starting to lose hope. Luckily, things are warming up now and all of my greenhouse seedlings are much happier. I've been poorly all week, so this has been my gardening therapy today! 🍅 All of my plants are grown in peat free compost from @sylvagrow. After years of trying out different ones, this is the best quality by far. My newest flower bed is really coming along great. It’s a no dig I done back in oct/nov. I’ve got 3 small shrubs in it Exochorda, Duetzia and a Hydrangea vanilla fraise. While the shrubs are small I will be planting my new dahlias from halls of heddon along the back with some sunflowers and verbena inbetween. I’ve planted larkspur, verbascum, gypsophila, forget me nots, Astrantia and Gaura. My squash and zucchini choices for the rare plant sale next weekend are especially good this year! Seedlings are strong and I can’t wait to plant my own. I will wait however! Recently it has been so cloudy and cold. No planting tomatoes or peppers and especially Squash and zucchini until the nights are in the 50’s. Otherwise, you risk stunting the plants. I use 50 degrees as my minimum temperature for planting out summer vegetables. These have been hardening off for the past week. May 11th is the average date temps stop going below 50 at night in my area. Of course the night before the 11th temps go down into the mid forties lol. Back in the fifties by 8am and then these are all going back outside and into my beds. It may dip down to 48/49 in the next week but briefly enough I feel safe.
