Welcome y'all to my first post documenting my experiences and lessons learned as a relatively new gardener. Before we moved to this house up in Connecticut early last year, (zone 6b) I had a couple planters and grow bags of tomatoes peppers and herbs. However our property at our last house had very little sun. So when we moved to Connecticut, I looked for a property with so much more to offer. Pictured here is the vegetable garden we've established this year. I've expanded the list of produce from just tomatoes and peppers and herbs to include brussel sprouts, radishes, eggplant, zucchini, lavender, potatoes, tomatillos, lettuce, radishes, borage, lavage, and bush beans. *Allotment Diary Day 3* Weeds we are getting the better of you! We are virtually 5 beds free and the back bed has been the toughest so far and will need some more work that is for sure… lots of sticky goosegrass which just gets everywhere on this bed but I think I got it all. There is an elderflower shrubs at the back and need a little pruning but I will get to that once we have all the beds and path weed free! Hoping in another 4 days we will be at a better stage to decide what to do next. I really want to create some #nodig beds. So some more tending to the beds once fully weeded. Noticed there is a nice amount of rhubarb so Tim can pull that. I also pulled up some of the previous owners potato plants by mistakes so pulled a handful of potatoes out too. It was nice to meet two of my allotment neighbours today so I introduced myself, always nice to be friendly… get me. Tomorrow I am going to start on the other side of the plot and get a couple more beds worked on. One more stump to remove and another bed is transformed! Last pic is the before from earlier this year however it's looked an awful lot worse, partly due to the raspberry cane infestation that came from nowhere 2 years ago! Busy weekend in the garden, getting all my jobs done. I'm feeling very proud as I've learnt new skills. My first job was to erect guttering along my new greenhouse💧. Easy job just required drilling and securing with screws🪛. Then came the tricky part, marrying that up to the water butt. After juggling with u bends and piping, I managed to divert into the butt. That then required the tricky bit for me to cut the hole in the lid with my new jigsaw. I felt all girl power as first attempt it fitted great 💪. Finally Bert's house 🐢 had a fresh paint of colour for summer, and weeded the small veggie patch next to him. Oh and I cut the grass. Nothing I ♥️ more than pottering in my garden. Weekend photo dump 📸 🌱 🐈⬛ (➡️ swipe for the ultimate weekend mood 🩷) It was a slow weekend for me this weekend, weeding and watering. My seedlings haven't hardened up enough indoors for me to plant out yet, I don't think. I have courgettes, broccoli, tomato's and beetroot still growing. Hopefully one more week or so and they can be planted out 🤞🏻 Potatoes, shallots and Iris' are doing well. I am obsessed with the indigo colour and so are the bees 💜 My sweet peas have completely flopped, I think they were too leggy to begin with. I have some more of those growing at home too. The Blue & White ones are doing well, but I have done four attempts at the baby pink ones and still nothing. I believe the pink failing ones are the Wills & Kate's variety, has anyone else bought them and had the same trouble? I also went for coffee and pastries with a friend, we stopped at the flower market in town and picked up these gorgeous peonies, the shade of red is so amazing! I’m still slowly but surely recovering from the past week - getting out into the garden for bits of times when I feel like it. Being so sick with pneumonia was definitely not on my to-do list heading into the gardening season but I’ve made peace with it. Thankful for the support system I have that’s allowed me to rest and recover like I’ve needed to. ♥️ Meanwhile in the garden, the strawberries are blushing, there are surprise magenta pea flowers, and my dahlia seedlings I grew from seed are budding. The Lion King Iris was looking spectacular in the Sun today against the old stone wall and with the Osteospermum peeking out around it! I hope you've all had a lovely weekend enjoying your gardens/allotments/balcony gardens (think that includes most of my followers!). It's a lot easier to plant and make the most of the garden again this year as our Dog is now 2 years old and is now out of the stage of digging holes and pulling my plants up. She's more likely to be found sniffing the Lavender and Rosemary these days as she loves them! So this is the latest garden project started early this year. I’ve long wanted a greenhouse but needed something on the smaller side. Just so happened I found this nearly new @rhinogreenhouses on eBay not far away and couldn’t let the opportunity slip. I sacrificed a bit of flower bed to create the foundations and laid the base over a number of weekends - back breaking work but was an opportunity to use up the copious slate slabs left over from the patio area. There’s not much to look at inside at the moment but happy to give a tour to show plans moving forward if you’re keen? Last time I posted this area of our garden was 7 months ago and the growth within that time has been crazy. The Myoporum has turned out to be a very good ground cover, almost too good as it’s taking over everything! It’s all been a bit trial and error as I’m learning as I go but so far I’m pretty happy with it. Altho I may have gone a bit overboard with all of the chalk sticks (looking a bit unruly here, bee’s love them when they flower 🐝). And Josè keeps doing his thing, trying to straighten himself and growing new arms 🌵 A while ago I bought @bonniestaceylandscapes e-book to help with what to plant and it’s been super helpful. Highly recommend! If you want to know what I’ve planted or want to see more of the rest of the garden let me know. It may have turned me into a gardener after all 🤔🌱

My Happy Place ❤️ Since I got my first little home of my own, well over 10 years ago now, I’ve wanted a big greenhouse that I can walk inside. And now I have one! It’s not a fancy proper glass one, and it’s not that big, but it’s perfect to me 😍 This afternoon I planted some climbing bean seeds and chives in little pots. I really need to get the gravel for the floor soon, but I love it in there already even though it’s not quite finished yet. It’s peaceful, and it’s now filling up with rows of seed trays 👍🏻 I’ve left plenty of shelf space as when I pot all the seedlings on they’ll take up lots more room in there. Must get my spuds out tomorrow, then that’s another planting job done. Feeling very grateful I have a big lovely garden here with space for a greenhouse.
