🌽 My late season Honey Sweet Corn @yatesgardening was able to keep me in supply of juicy sweet cobs for five months of the year 🌽🌽 🌽 In a previous post a few weeks ago I was expecting to harvest them about a week later. We had more rain last night with lightning, apparently lightning rain makes the grass grow more so thats good. We also have a week of sunny weather in the mid 20's which is perfect for grass growing. 🌶️🫑 A new raised garden bed design focused on peppers! This is for an 8’x2’ space which is perfect for those long, skinny areas along the house or fence line! My planting area is 16’x2’ so I planted two of these side by side. 🐿️ We have a lot of squirrels in our yard so I designed this to include lots of herbs and flowers that deter squirrels. I chose to use chives, marigolds, geraniums, and yerba buena. I also planted spicy peppers— which squirrels dislike— interspersed with the sweet peppers to discourage them from eating. My Misato Rose Flesh Radishes bolted 😭 I was so excited for these and they were growing so well. Not that I'm complaining about the weather at all! The tomatoes are now out at night (so long as the temp stays around 12 and above). That's meant a big reduction in morning and night faff as I've got around 24 of the things! Around 5 have tomatoes growing on them now and more flowering so hopefully we've almost made it to having early tomatoes. It’s been a while since I’ve had time in the garden, I popped in a sweet potato plant last spring to see what would happen. ( we are in southern Victoria so thought it might be too cold ) The vine has grown beautifully, and I noticed some satellite tubers forming away from the main plant, (not sure what the normal growth pattern is for sweet potatoes) so I’ve dug them up and they look great! There are a few that are decent sized, so those I’m going to cure for a few weeks then eat! 😊😊Some are already shooting again, so might keep those to plant in Spring. I haven’t touched the main clump yet as the vine still looks healthy, but not sure if that the right thing to do. Ive always wanted to see the aurora and have been joking for the past 6 months that 'we might be able to see the aurora tonight' so imagine my suprise when I walked outside last night and there it was! The Aurora Australis! After it died down I figured out how to take photos of it but at the start I could see it clearly, including the pillars. I then woke up every 2 hours to check but it never came back, I just managed to be outside at the perfect time.

On her social media page & yesterday I clued onto something, my toddler wondered off in the morning around the corner while I was out front, She was digging in my lawn & filling up a cup then emptying the cup then filling it up, We were then at the Fremantle art center and there is an area where white gravel is everywhere & she went around jumping, digging, finding a good looking rock, As we walked around Subi community garden she explored… That was it… As adults we forget that most of this that we’ve been given is about experience, exploring, experiment, feeling, discovery, laughter, fun & sometimes a bita failure & loss to keep it balanced… All the things a toddler will show you within spending a day out… They do this naturally… So after three years of prepared contemplation I Believe I Garden as it brings me back to experiencing the fundamentals of life, It brings me back to Earth & lets me dig in the mud & discover like a toddler again without the local grounds keeper telling me I’ve broken his reticulation system again…. 🌏 .
