AZT Day 49-Part 3 I won’t ever complain about it being too hot! Another cold morning! Luckily the wind had stopped sometime during the night. What was left was very cold temperatures! I have become used to sleeping with my water filter, cell phone and power banks! (Freezing temps damage them all) I just put them in a stuff sack and put inside my sleeping quilt! Today was going to be a nice little hike to the Jacob Lake Inn and perhaps some warm food in the restaurant at their old school diner counter! So as usual plans change on trail! I made it to the road and was hoping to get a “hitch” the 2.5 miles to the inn. Well, from my appearance I must look “shady” cause I ended walking the entire 2.5 on asphalt (OUCH!!!) to the Inn! This put the finishing touches on my knees! I had a signal so I called Christy and asked if she could get me a room there tonight! I knew I could not walk the 2.5 back to trail that evening! They had a room! I have always liked visiting the towns and meeting people along the way. This is the last destination spot along the AZT so I was looking forward to spending the night there! Did I mention they have fresh baked cookies and pastries! My only dilemma was finding a ride back to trail the next morning (to save my knees) What I didn’t know is someone was looking after me! AZT Day 48-Part 3 Cold!!! I have come to the conclusion that my AZT journey was definitely colder than hiking the PCT! This morning was no exception! I packed up my camp in record time (not even taking the time to eat) just to get moving to a little lower in elevation and away from the wind! I have become used to lack of sleep but what I noticed is that I take fewer pictures when that happens . I was focused on “head down” hiking and putting some miles behind me! It was a very quiet day (except for the wind) until I came across a couple of thru-hikers. These weren’t regular thru-hikers, they were hiking the Hayduke trail! https://www.hayduketrail.org/ This is one of the most challenging thru-hikes you can ever attempt. Part of it passes along the AZT so I was excited to meet them and hear about their challenges! Suddenly I didn’t feel so tired, and also knew I didn’t have it so bad! I continued to push until a I found a nice little camp that was still above 7,000 feet but had some nice shielding from the wind that continued to blow! Only a couple of days left and I was starting to feel the mixed emotions of completing my journey! AZT Day 47-Part 7 North Rim So there is a cool place at the bottom of the canyon called the Phantom Ranch it dates back to 1922! It is a group of cabins and the main lodge/ dining hall that serves breakfast and dinner (reservations required). So I asked the day before if they had any openings for the 5am breakfast, they did! I was so eager to jump on that knowing a hot breakfast along with hot coffee would help propel me up the canyon to the north rim! Did I mention it was all you can eat! I was the only thru-hiker there that morning. Everyone at my table was clued in when I kept asking for more pancakes and coffee! What a great way to start my day! The north rim was even more impressive hiking than the south and with considerably less people! It was a long slow climb in the canyon along the Bright Angel Creek. I knew this would be my last major climb of the journey, but I didn’t mind! In fact the only other people I saw were a couple of trail runners and a blonde woman who flew past me as I climbed! What beauty as I moved closer to the top! This trail definitely had some narrow path with drop offs, so not for the faint of heart! Made it to Coconino Point and met a backpacker who took some photos of me enjoying the awesome views! Made it to the North Rim which is colder due to the higher elevation than the south! What made it even better was I was treated with fresh made cookies! Thank you again @north_rim_naturalist I enjoyed talking with you with you, and thank you for following my journey! Had a second night permit for the North Rim Campground (currently closed) they were allowing AZTers to stay there! What a view (photos) the only problem was I had a late night visitor! WIND! Sleep was going to be difficult but it’s all part of this amazing journey! Mental health problems are a common consequence of experiencing domestic abuse, both for adults and children. And, having mental health issues can render a person more vulnerable to abuse. It is therefore perhaps unsurprising that a significant proportion of people accessing mental health services have experienced abuse. #mentalhealthawareness. #mentalhealthmatters. #mentalhealthrecovery. #endthestigma. #mindfulness. #personalgrowth. #daringgreatly #karibucommunitylegacy

AZT Day 46-PART 7 Happy Cinco De Mayo! Was so excited for what lies ahead today. Christy took me to the trail head of the AZT where it descends into the Grand Canyon on the Kaibab Trail. This is over a 7 mile descent into the canyon and to the Colorado River! Another storm and wind event was on its way! (Go figure) but my plan was to arrive at the Bright Angel Campground and set up before it hit. What an amazing journey down into the canyon! I even enjoyed the dark swirling clouds that were moving my way! Passed plenty of day hikers and backpackers and enjoyed chatting with them all! I guess it might be obvious that I am a thru-hiker because everyone asked how long I have been out! The beauty of the Grand Canyon was on full display and I enjoyed every step further down! Arrived at the designated campsite when the wind started to kick up! A few rocks came sliding down the canyon walls so it was time for a change of plans! Since I cruised down so early I had options! (Video) my problem was will the Rangers allow me to switch spots? Oh well! I figured my next step was to walk up to the Phantom Ranch and snack shack for some chips, cookies and a cold one to relax with! I walked back to camp and a small group of backpackers arrived for their last night in the canyon. The wind at this point was really gusting and they graciously told me to stay under the shelter with them! They even developed a nice cover story to tell the Ranger!(Who never came by!) I enjoyed talking to them and they had plenty of questions about my thru-hike! Later that evening the rain started and with the gusts of wind blew it into the shelter! Oh well, time to set up the rain fly. (Photo) Slept pretty comfortably knowing I wouldn’t have wet gear in the morning. Tomorrow was going to be a big day hiking the 14 miles out on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I just celebrated my 50th birthday 🥳 😳 My joke is it’s time to start my second act. But truly I have been reflecting on my life and the gift that healing ❤️‍🩹 has given me. 14 years ago I was suffering so much with my bipolar symptoms I didn’t want to keep living. 😔 I believed what I had been told about bipolar being chronic and incurable. I’m grateful every day that wasn’t true❗️ I have a beautiful life now—full, productive, joyful and full of purpose. ❤️ Recovery and healing are possible. Here’s to 50 more years 🎉 #bipolartreatment #bipolarrecovery #bipolardisordersupport #mentalillnessrecovery #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthsupport #myupsideofdown #theupsideofbipolar #moodcyclesurvivalguide

This mental health Collection is amazing.... 4 incredible fragrances!! Blue Lavender & Bergamot: Lavender, bergamot and a touch of eucalyptus encourage rejuvenation with every breath. Chamomile & Vanilla: Chamomile flower and sheer vanilla share a mediative moment of calm. Lemon & Mandarin: A citrus infusion of Meyer lemon and mandarin lightens the mood with a hint of lime. Rosemary & Mint: A rush of fresh garden mint invigorates rosemary oil and eucalyptus. Blue Lavender & Bergamot has to be my favourite out the 4 but they all smell incredible.. 🫶 #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters💚

Separated by distance, my brother and I found ourselves settled in two different states across India. Our shared memories became scarce, fading into the distant past. Now, with him gone forever, I find myself clinging to the conversations we once had. During one of those rare moments together, I still remember I was a young teen and he was playing a song and he stopped at this one line: “I miss the comfort of being sad” He told me that once you start to recover from sadness there’s a part of you that misses being sad and that if you start feeling that way you have to be extra extra aware and careful because if you indulge the feeling you’ll go down a self-destructive spiral. At that time, its meaning eluded me completely. And even though that was years and years ago, I think about it all the time. Especially when I’m reading discourse on the idea of getting so attached to mental illness as an identity that you don’t want to improve things because you feel safe in it and don’t know who you are without it. I always think of that line “I miss the comfort of being sad” and my brother’s warning. 🌻 . . . . . . . . . #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthrecovery

It’s a common misconception that virtual therapy is less effective than therapy provided in-person. In reality, research shows that in general, it is just as effective as in-person therapy. Everyone is different. If you feel as though you aren’t getting as much out of virtual therapy as you do in-person, then seek out in-person therapy. If you feel like virtual therapy makes therapy more accessible to you, then do therapy online. Check out Survivors.org to see some of the options in your area. Reframing our perspective can unveil new paths to fulfillment. Instead of fixating on a distant horizon of a lifelong pursuit, (which is a total set up for getting bored) we can ask ourselves what inspires us now? This question opens doors to present-moment passion and growth. The traditional question of "What do I want to do for the rest of my life?" can feel daunting and overwhelming. By shifting to "What do I feel inspired to explore more deeply at this point in my life?" we invite curiosity and flexibility into our journey. This approach honors the ever-evolving nature of our desires and aspirations, allowing us to embrace the richness of our current interests and passions. Let us guide you in this empowering journey of self-discovery and growth, where each moment becomes an opportunity for deeper exploration and fulfillment. #womensupport #psychotherapy #wellness #womensupportingwomen #mentalhealth #mentalwelness #selflove #body #jacquelinerosewellness #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthmatters #anxietyrecovery #eatingdisorderrecovery #emotionalwellbeing

⭐️ Testimonial: Spirit of Motivational Interviewing in Action ⭐️ Our Early Head Start Home Visitor has a parent she is working with who has been battling cancer for a while now. The Mom was feeling very defeated and voiced that she felt her specialists were just monitoring her until she would eventually die. Our Home Visitor spent a lot of time listening, validating emotions, and discussing potential strategies to improve the situation. The possibility of changing her team of specialists was brought up and Mom voiced very conflicting feelings about this. One day, Mom looked at the Home Visitor and said she was ready to make a change. Our Home Visitor had been patient, accepting, compassionate, and persistent as they worked together motivating Mom to be ready for this. That day, they made some phone calls together and they are happy to report that Mom has started seeing a new team of specialists who are bringing options to the table the old team never mentioned. ----------------------------------------------- Contact our Early Head Start/Head Start program to learn about our home-based educational program for pregnant moms and babies up to age 5! 📞 (440) 358-7370

This should be looking especially off on this page now, circa February’s 2/22 gateway of this year, also Black History Month. Also not due to Noah, a training medical professional and athlete, nor me, a highly well read multimedia artist, medium and more. Also not due to either of us, as white men. May is mental health awareness month. I'm reminded again of the insane work it took to stay alive. It is really really hard for some people to just exist and no one should ever take that for granted. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthwarrior #depressionawareness #anxietysupport #ptsdawareness #ptsdsurvivor #ptsdwarrior
