The Sunshine DayDream cultivar is an inflammation reducer. The crosses will denote just how strong the medicine is. Mendo Purps, GG4, are going to be heavy on pain relief. Super Silver haze, Purple Diesel, are going to be more functional while still providing relief. There are a few other sunshine daydream crosses we are in the search for. Look at these little beauties! Blueberries! That early, cold frost may have gotten a few pear and apple trees, but not these blues! We planted an additional 7 plants this year, filling in a few holes and adding more of our favorite variety, Blueray. Blueray is a fast grower (relative to other varieties) and has tight clusters of BIG berries that retain that tart sweet flavor. Chandler variety produces HUGE, delicious berries as well, just a little sparser. I’m already excited for this summer and storing treat, but I’ll have to wait a bit longer. They won’t be ready until mid July. What new things should I make with them this year?! My lovely raised beds 🥹 I am so happy with them! My dad and Matthew helped me build the frames, and my mum was on cardboard/cellotape duty! A real family effort 🥰 This area is like my dreams coming to reality, I’ve got a greenhouse packed with plants and now I finally have somewhere for them to go. I just need to fill them 🥲 I’ve got some leftover topsoil which I’m planning on using on top of cardboard. I’ve used damp membrane plastic on the sides to protect the wood and also as the woods treated it will stop any chemical leech. I’ve kept the bottoms open however as I’d like the plants to have the option of as much root space as they need. The access to this corner isn’t great…so I’m going to bite the bullet and order 50L bags of compost for ease. I’ve also got some rose cuttings that I’ll be adding, and anything to bulk them out basically. Why you should Grow Rudbeckia 🌼 For reliable late summer to early autumn blooms, there’s really no better flowering plant in my opinion than Rudbeckia! Rudbeckia is a long-lived perennial that can reliably produce blooms for many years, if left to its own devises, it will easily self-seed and cover an area in a sea of vibrant yellow flowers. This particular variety is ‘Goldstrum’ which produces stems of around 2-3 feet tall and large golden flower heads with a large central cone, hence the nickname ‘coneflower’. The flowering plant is great for pollinators, is deer and rabbit resistant and the best part is that it’s really easy to grow and maintain. Rudbeckia is low maintenance, drought tolerant, disease resistant and although it prefers full sun it will generally grow almost anywhere. A cross of ( Cookies N Creme x Secret Weapon) that has certainly taken the Michigan market by storm. I’m personally growing the original and two other hybrids. The structure is the same in everyone and definitely shows off the cut as Mephisto selects for traits that the photoperiod is known for. Long node spacing with super dense/ frosty buds run up and down. Very little to trim on these lady’s. The resin and terp production is next level and I can even see traits from the Cookies N Creme side of things, as I’m growing the breeders cut of Grease Monkey I was able to acquire at @leagledenver. Saving Tomato Seed 🍅🌱 Start by choosing some of your ripest and best looking fruits - ensure they are heirloom or un-hybridised varieties, if there is a F1 next to the variety name then you cannot successfully save seed from them. Slice the fruit in half exposing the seed cavities and scoop out the seeds into a glass or jar. If there is not enough liquid from the tomato pulp for the seeds to float in, add up to a cup of water to help separate the seeds from the pulp. Then pop the glass or jar of tomato seeds and pulp in a in a fairly warm spot inside for 2 to 4 days. Cover the top of the jar to keep fruit flies out and also lower the potential spread of an unpleasant odour. You may notice a layer of mold on top of the seeds and pulp that is completely fine. Don’t leave the seeds past 3-4 days as they may begin to germinate. The viable seeds should settle to the bottom of the jar in a watery liquid and the thicker pulp and mold sit on top of them. Then rinse the seeds, you can add some water to the jar or glass and stir or shake. The good seeds will settle to the bottom, allowing you to drain off the excess first. Strain the seed mixture into a colander or tea strainer and rinse the seeds well under running water. Spread the seeds onto either a piece of thick brown paper or glass plate to dry for a day or two. This year I am planting a lot more in pots because I am trying to maximize our small space. If I keep making gardens and putting up greenhouses we are going to be out of space very quickly! Plant These Together! 👉🏻🥕🧅👀 Onions and carrots are a great example of companion planting. As Carrots are very susceptible to pest such as carrot root fly which are attracted to the root via scent, however onions have a very strong scent too which helps mask the smell of the carrots and confuse pests, which means no more unsightly covers! I utilise this companion planting every season and I’ve never had an issue with carrot root fly. Onions grow tall and fairly thin too so they don’t take up much space between rows either. She’s keeping most of them in the cooler as it’s a little warm for them so please do ask if you’d like a particular bunch.
