Vanochtend de (voorlopig) laatste hand gelegd aan de kruidentuin. De ophoging is grond die uit dat stuk is gekomen. Er is nog steeds een berg over. Het appelboompje dat er bovenop staat komt bij het mini tuincentrumpje naast de sportschool, waar ik dus steeds langs loop en denk oehhhh. Maar veel soeps is het niet. Ze verkopen meer potten en vazen etc dan planten en de boompjes stonden er duidelijk al een hele tijd. Deze heb ik gered en mag nu hier zijn best gaan doen. Ik hoop dat het hen bevalt. Er omheen heb ik een scala aan kruiden en eetbare bloemen uitgezaaid. Daar is dan weer een laag mulch achtige meuk overheen gekomen: zaagsel en gove en fijne kokos. Ik had de groententuin natuurlijk ook eerder moeten mulchen, maar beter laat dan nooit dus die heeft nu de restjes gekregen. Nu een beetje regen graag en dan GROEIEN! 🌱🌱🌱

I'm an absolute sucker for a Hargrove print! The fine lines and textural details set my imagination to play in the way I thought only books could. These two came with fancy frames and a great price from @treasureaisles_stl. Also from Treasure Aisles is this original painting of the California desert. No palm trees in sight, just an authentic landscape that gives an honest vibe of what we left behind when we moved to the Midwest. The last three are pages of a caricature book, sold individually at an antique mall. I grabbed three pages of some of my favorite dead old white men, Vonnegut, Chopin, and Ginsberg. RADISHES 🌿 I think Radishes are probably one of my favourite things to grow for 3 reasons. First, they’re incredibly fast growing. Second, they take up next to no space. And third, because my youngest associates them with Peter Rabbit and believes that by planting radishes, Peter Rabbit and his friends will visit our garden when we aren’t looking 🥹 she’s so invested I actually let our dog nibble a few and she believes it’s Peter rabbits nibbles 🐰 One of the best things for me since starting this journey was how much more time the kids spend with me, in the garden, planting, potting, weeding. It’s so nice to see them off their nintendos and outside. As I’m fortunate enough to have all of the school holidays off work, I remember last summer holidays myself and the kids having breakfast every single morning together outside, even when it wasn’t the warmest. As we wanted to check the plants, watch the birds in the bird bath and just talk to eachother 🤍 I’m counting the days until we can do that again. Summer now gives me so much to look forward to and makes me realise how truly blessed I am 🙏🏼 Do your kids help in the garden? What’s their favourite thing to do?

I am such a lucky bunny, I got an early birthday present! It's a Christow 4 tier growhouse max. My previous (and already preloved before me) green grow house finally gave up last week as one of the top parts rusted through and broke. It lasted me a good 10 years so I have no complaints. This new one has the same footprint but is white, slightly taller and has clips to hold the roll up front (rather than just ties which eventually snapped on my previous one) Plenty of room for tomatoes in this one and there are even holes to put a cane through at the top to attach supports to. This was such a special project we wrapped up this weekend and something I’ve wanted to do for some time now. Like many others working in edible landscapes, when I started doing this work I never thought I’d spend so much time building fences. Usually it’s a fence around a garden meant to keep critters and pests away. This privacy apple espalier with three grafted branches will grow and mature into a beautiful green fruiting barrier that adds privacy and a variety of apples for harvest every year. We planted two apple trees and secured them to the three posts at 8ft distance using coated wire anchored at the three horizontal tiers. الأمس زرعت شجيرة البلوبري الي شريتها في حوض اكبر البلوبري ممكن زراعتها في حوض او في الأرض، الشي الي يخليها مثاليه للبلكونه . برضو مافيها اشواك مثل الرازبري و البلاكبري . عشان تضمن نجاح و اثمار الشجيره ، لازم التربه الي مزروعه فيها تكون حامضيه . عشان كذا يفضل زراعتها في سماد مخصوص للنباتات المحبه للحمضيه . برضو نقدر بعدها نحط نشارة خشب على سطح التربه عشان نحفظ الرطوبه و نرفع مستوى الحموضه . البلوبري من الشجيرات الي تعطي بوفره و تتحمل البرد بالشتاء. تزهر في فترة أبريل و مايو و تعطي ثمار بعدها بالإمكان زراعتها في أحواض طول السنه ، بالنسبه اذا كنت ناوي تزرعها بالأرض ف يفضل خلال الربيع او الخريف. مره سعيده اني اخذتها خصوصا ان البلوبري من الفواكه الي احبها . Friday’s street gardening crew gave the Emerald Way garden a BIG clip back and clean up! Roma, Gurleen, Lisa, Mark, Sandi and myself worked super hard and got everything done.. which was superb. This garden has been in about 3 years and gets no supplementary water at this point so we have to be mindful of what we plant. We popped in 4 poa lab and replanted some pigface after the tidy up. The saltbush (Atriplex cinerea) out in the open was getting very ratty so we really cut it back. Bearded iris 'Double Exposure' is blooming 🪷. The colours are gorgeous. This is one of the irises I bought at the Arundel Castle plant fair a few weeks ago from @chailey_iris_garden It would have more flowers if I hadn't accidentally knocked the top of the flower spike off 🤦🏽♀️I also managed to knock the top of the flower spike off my 'Midnight Masterpiece' and the 'Oblivion' flower spike withered away. May wildflower patch update! It’s almost as tall as me and the first yellow flowers appeared yesterday. Can’t wait to see how it evolves! Also, cheeky Mitty who prefers to nap on the freshly dug up soil, then comes home covered in it and thinks she can nap on our bed.
