I decided to chop up my Philodendron Melanochrysum and try it in semi-hydro. I was struggling to get consistent good growth on it, a few good leaves were always followed by several broken ones that wouldn’t unfurl and, as a result, it had ended up with a hundred growth points, all doing their own thing, which was difficult to keep up with. I potted up the sections I liked the best, but now I’m left with all these other cuttings I have no room for (plus a wet stick with some roots on it). 🌱Philodendron Dragon Tail Hypothesis: supply water to each node leads to root growth and leaves along a bare stem. Test: I don't have a moss pole so I wrapped each node along this bare stem of my Philodendron Dragon Tail with a strip of wet paper towel, then covered it in a strip of clingwrap to reduce evaporation. Woke up to find I had missed the #AureaBorealis , but more than made up that tinge of disappointment to find these little wonders instead. #Cistus Purpureus cuttings taken late last Summer propagated in sand and grit (top tip gleaned from last years Garden Festival at #CharlestonGardens) . Now all rooted through and ready to pot up. Later in the year I’ll plant them out in the garden. The part that makes me the most sad is… this is not the first time this happens to me with this plant, but I keep getting it. I just completely lied to myself because I said I was going to repot it, then I got busy with life and completely forgot about. I glanced over before I left on my road trip and noticed some yellow leaves, sadly it was too late to do anything about it, we had to go. When I got back I got super sick and only started feeling better around Wednesday night. I had so much to catch up on that I didn’t get to this until yesterday 😬 it was definitely too late. Root rot works fast, and it completely took over in this plant. The only thing I had left to do was to propagate as much of it as possible. I was able to get the vines since the rot had not traveled up that high yet. Now I am going to patiently wait for some roots, but with the luck I’ve had with this plant….I might just leave it in water🤷🏽♀️ Anyways…I am back! 🪴Plant shopping with marketing manager Leanne My front garden has been a work in progress for a very long time- an embarrassment really especially as my neighbours know that I work at Beth Chatto's and am a trained horticulturist! 😬 So I thought it was about time I rolled up my sleeves and finished the space in time for summer. Previously the front garden consisted of a sad excuse for a lawn and some box hedging which had been decimated by box tree caterpillars, so I began by removing it all and starting from scratch. The soil here is very free-draining, poor and the area receives full sun, so I decided on a mostly drought-tolerant range of plants perfectly suited to the conditions. I popped into work, but this time as a customer, and went shopping! In autumn and again in spring, I lifted and divided some existing plants in the back garden and moved to the front in a bid to keep costs down. These included Stipa gigantea, hylotelephium, origanum, eryngium and bergenia. I'm looking forward to adding my new additions and seeing how the planting develops over the growing season. Today's purchases included: 1. Geranium pyrenaicum 'Bill Wallis' 2. Achillea 'Moonshine' 3. Teucrium x lucidrys 4. × Cotanthemis Susanna Mitchell 5. Artemisia 'Powis Castle' 6. Nepeta racemosa 'Six Hills Giant' 7. Stipa gigantea 8. They broke up 💔 😢...... - Haworthiopsis Limifolia! Our post for today! This grouping of Haworthiopsis was pictured in my last post, but it was bugging me... It was too overgrown, and was getting too big for its pot! I didn't want to sell something that needed immediate up-potting (put in bigger pot size to allow to grow), and I honestly only had a few other haworthias for sale... So I broke it up!! An amazing part of this succulent is that they propagate (make more plants) by spreading out and growing babies all around the base of the plant! All of these plants came from ONE mother. The last video on the slide is the original plant that ALL of these plants were grown from. Gaston was concerned over this repot and propagation and I didn't blame him one bit. Cactus is always nerve wracking when re-potting, I previously did my cowboy cactus last night to get some bravery. A continuous spray water bottle gives the best results for this method, as the droplets are tiny and continuous. Just a light spray is needed to give your Monstera the humidity it needs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The best time to mist is early in the morning when the air is cooler because this will allow more moisture to stay on the leaves. Avoid watering your Monstera at night as it can cause fungal growth on its leaves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mist your plant once or twice a day depending on how dry your home environment is. Misting too much may lead to overwatering, which can cause root rot and other issues. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re using tap water, let it sit overnight before misting as this will help remove any chlorine or fluoride that may harm your plant.
