On Friday I made a quick visit to a Beth Chatto’s garden, primarily to buy Origanum Rosenkuppel (now back in stock) that I’d seen in the garden last August. A garden which was on my list since a long time. The weather was great to meander around Beth Chatto's gravel garden a couple of weeks back. Stunned by the gorgeous textures of the foliage, height, movement and drama in the garden. The emergent growth of Stachys byzantina around the loose edges of the bed contrasting with the height of Ferrula tingitiana 'Cedric Morris' looked lovely. Not to miss the electrifying Euphorbias - epithymoides and characais adding so much vibrancy to the space. Love how the bench is enveloped by the vegetation around. I veckan färdigställde vi ännu en trädgård som vi planerat under vintern. En klurig framsida där trädgården var påbörjad men kunden behövde hjälp att komma vidare och knyta ihop alla nivåskillnader. Gavelsidan terasserades så att en plan yta kunde leda vidare mot baksidan. Trampstenar slingrar fram genom knastrigt grus. Öar av timjan, tallar, lavendel, salvia och prydnadsgräs ger liv och färg. Allium 'Purple sensation' singing away in the gravel garden yesterday. With a supporting cast of ox-eye daisies, giant scabious and the first of the toad flax flowers emerging. We had a day of maintenance yesterday, weeding, mulching and thinning out self seeded plants. It's also an ideal time to 'Chelsea chop' perennials which will no doubt have become leggy with our recent wet and warm weather. Don't cut back your Alliums however, they will not produce another flower head until next year. It's always best to check by species before hitting all your perennials to the ground and timing is important (before flowering). Chelsea chop prevents leggy plants which are likely to snap, cutting now creates a more compact plant and delays the flower show to later in the summer. Only take a third off of your selected perennials. Also consider chopping some and not chopping but staking others for a longer flower show of your favourite perennials.
