I’m an #airquality #scientist of course I monitor our air during a prescribed control burn. We are a downwind community because the fire is south and the prevailing westerlies move that degraded air downwind. The ash can make a magnificent sky with the sun and clouds and this ash can act as cloud-condensation nuclei, but this ash particulate matter exacerbates the melting snow of the San Francisco Peaks. #flagstaff #arizona

Have a Nice Day! In the Tom Hanks movie Forrest Gump there is a scene that occurs as he is running across the United States. In the scene he is running past a truck stop, alongside an entrepreneur who wants to put Forrest's face on a t-shirt, when a large truck passes in front of him and covers Forrest in mud. The entrepenuer hands Forrest a yellow t-shirt which he wipes his face with and says "Have a Nice Day." The image that is left of the yellow shirt is, of course, the smiley face that was popular back in the 70's. The location that the scene was shot is east of Flagstaff off of I-40, along a bypassed section of Route 66, at what was in years past called the Twin Arrows Trading Post. Thirty-plus years later the main building and diner still stand, mostly, but one of the arrows is gone, and grafitti and vandalism have taken over. Ditat Deus 🏜️ My family had this tendency to pick themselves up and move to a new place every couple of years, due to my mom’s work. One of them was Arizona. We lived in large but sparse and empty home next to a cow farm. My brother and I, at the time, slept on the floor of my parent’s bedroom so we could stay close. Our times were filled with relaxing on the porch swing after wreaking havoc with the neighborhood kids. Reading TONS of books, partially because we weren’t able to leave the house until we did our readings, but also because kid’s fiction is so magical. And just driving aimlessly around the state. Stopping at national parks as we went. Something that my parents, even up to now, still do. I often never gave AZ credit. But reflecting on it now, it really is a special place with it’s own world and way of living. Living in the suburbs or rural areas has a distinctly different headspace compared to being in the city. No way is better than the other. But being in LA for the past 6 years, I’m starting to miss the simplicity of life. There was a prescribed burn 🔥 🌲 that had to temporarily postponed because the smoke settled too low over northern and central AZ. Hopefully the 💨 will blow out for the remaining #cocodona250 #sedona125 and tomorrow’s #Eldencrest38 runners.
