NORMALIZE OFF SEASONS 🧘‍♀️ As a kid, I played sports almost year-round, but built into the schedule were downtimes - times to rest between sports. Somehow as adults in the amateur running world we’ve missed a step. I’m guilty of this. How often have you really rested? Or changed up and focused on something else (cross training, strength training)? I could argue that I’ve had a really long rest period since @wgmarathon in October, but perhaps it’s what my body needs for longevity in this sport. It also struck me that the marathon I’m eyeing is six months away. That’s a lot of time! So why put undo pressure on myself now to get faster or gain back the fitness quickly? There’s a lot of pressure to go go go in many aspects of our lives, and I want to challenge some of my friends here in the running space to let go of this need to always be gaining and grinding. There’s a time and place for it, yet it can’t be all the time. Over in my little corner I’ve been dialing back the running and ramping up the strength, while prioritizing my health. It’s scary to make changes, however, if I want to be a lifelong runner, and support this body (while knocking on forty’s door), I know I need to put my focus on other areas for now. I’m lucky to have a mostly injury free running journey, and my plan is to keep it that way. If you’ve stuck with me this long. Thanks! I’m not done yet, just planting seeds for a successful harvest. 🌱

Rather than thinking about what you need to remove from your diet, start thinking about what you get to ADD🫐🥑🥕 . This is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make with their mindset and relationship towards food when they embark on health and fitness goals. They come up with a list of foods that they cannot have anymore, which in turn creates immediate feelings of restriction😟 . Your diet should be filled with vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and deliciousness 😎 If you think of everything you can add, the process becomes a lot more enjoyable. Your mindset surrounding food and relationship with food is very important, and the only diet you should follow is one that you can sustain long term. . I coach my clients to enjoy ALL of their favourite foods in moderation. This doesn’t mean I encourage them to fill their days of eating with processed, non nutrient dense foods. I teach them how to build nutrient dense, balanced, and whole food meals without being afraid of the occasional treat🍩🍭 . Understanding what food contains what macronutrients, foods that are high in micronutrients, and what foods genuinely make you feel and perform your best is such a solid skill set to have. And feeling in control of how you are fuelling and nourishing your body is a major flex 💪🏾

sometimes all you need to fix where your head is at is a good lift (: doesn’t even need to be perfect - mine for sure was not lol. at minimum put effort and intention into your lifts and the things will fall in line. if you half ass it, your mood will be half asses too and nobody wants that bullshit (: even if all you are able to do is 3 sets of something… put everything you have into it 🔥 and by everything i mean EVERYTHING. Tuesday evening thoughts… I’m in my second week back to work since having our second baby. Work is great! I’ve been busy. I was quickly reminded how to juggle all the things - home chores, work tasks, and finding the right balance. A quick disclosure because it’s needed: I am a better wife and a better mom when I am working and have a day filled with structure. I •love• my job and it uplifts me everyday. But… But what I wasn’t ready for, when returning to work, was the sad toddler. She needs me, everyday, for comfort, companionship, cuddles, and being a solid constant in her life. I wasn’t prepared for: the sadness in the mornings (first picture) of having to go to daycare or have someone else take care of her; or (second picture) the evening snuggles followed by I miss you’s and mommy play with me. After 8 weeks of being home and spending much more time with her, the mom guilt completely sets in as she grabs her backpack each morning, heads to the car, and says “I wanna go mamas house 😢” Who knew you could get so much emotion from a 2 year old. Who knew she would have these big feelings that she CAN tell me about. 365 days with @danakoronko 🥹💪🏼🌟 This is a great example of how a small action can lead to a huge lifestyle change. Dana is a Type 1 diabetic and has managed this condition successfully for many years, but in 2023 she knew something needed to change for the sake of her mental and emotional wellbeing. After 15+ years of under fuelling her body, she decided to reach out and make a change to be a strong and confident role model for her children. For 12 months we have cycled through several lean building phases, maintaining the gains and gradually losing fat, while ensuring that her relationship with food remains positive and nourishing. A few of my favorite things on today’s workout! 👋 I did (for the first time ever haha) the Extra challenge ⭐️ 1 mile run + 96 step-ups ✔️ done within in goal time at 17 minutes. 😍😍😍 I could have pushed harder. I started off slow, especially with the run, not knowing how my neck would be, which is basically every workout at this point. But I focused hard on my posture the entire time and was able to go pretty quick in the end to catch up on time, so maybe I should’ve started off a little hotter. So freaking happy. I miss running immensely 😭 I finished at 9:14 but probably should’ve finished closer to 815 to 830 🤷🏼‍♀️ step ups are always my fave, and I wish I had paid attention to the time better… probably could’ve skimmed off another minute there as well. I’m married to my grad school sweetheart and have a baby girl named Kenzie. I’ve been a Doctor of Physical Therapy for 10 years and a personal trainer for 18 years. 🏋️‍♀️ I wanted to create this community to provide 2 free workouts a month where you don’t have to worry about childcare because making time for you is tough as a mom. They will be outdoors in a park or at the beach and incorporate your little ones. Dates and locations will be announced monthly and edited into the profile description. ☀️ Workouts will be 30 minutes and can be modified for all levels of fitness or pregnancy/postpartum stage. Workout clips will be posted after so you can do it again later. ☕️ Grab a coffee, tea, protein shake, or smoothie after the workout and build your mom tribe. 👟 You’ll just need workout shoes, a blanket or yoga mat, and water for your workout. Strollers, snacks and toys recommended just incase 😘 Working out is necessary for my mental health and being able to do all the things with Kenzie. While it might not look it now, my postpartum fitness journey was a serious rollercoaster and didn’t go anywhere close to planned. 3 months postpartum 👶🏽 I have really focused on taking care of myself after having Leo. Exercise has always been a priority but our food was getting a little to flexible towards the end of my pregnancy. I knew the longer I took to clean things up the harder it was going to be to recover and build myself up again. Here is what I have done in these last 3 months: The first month the goal was to get plenty calories and nutrients to help me recover. Eat, sleep and repeat. I had a very smooth recovery and was able to start going on my daily walks. Second month I began a small deficit & started tracking food on myfitness pal. Set a daily step goal and training 3x a week. Month three I started following a specific meal plan (same meals everyday). Training 4x a week and playing soccer on Sundays. I am still eating plenty of food ✅ My milk supply has not changed ✅ I feel good in my body ✅ I’ve lost 10lbs ✅ I have energy ✅ Putting in the work to be in the best shape I can 💪🏽 #postpartum #fitmom #strongmom

Sometimes, all you have to do is to believe that one day, all the sadness in your heart will disappear. I want you to know that it's okay not to be a fighter sometimes. You don't have to be strong all the time. When nothing seems to give you reasons to be positive in life, you just have to go with the flow and stay alive. I don't know where you came from, and I don't know what you've been through in life. But I know you're one of those sad souls who wishes to be saved. It's okay, you don't always have to push yourself to be fine. I want you to know that it's okay to be sad. It's okay to be tired. It's okay to feel hopeless sometimes. But please don't give up on yourself especially when nobody’s there to save you. Promise yourself that no matter how hard it is, you'll always choose to live. Maybe it's hard to be okay right now, but I hope someday you find happiness and peace despite of all that you've been through. All the sadness and pain that you feel right now will be gone someday. Such a huge reminder of how far I actually have come on this journey! The shorts I’m wearing are shorts that I had before I had children!!!! 🤯 I now call them my fat shorts…these are the only ones I saved to remind myself how far I’ve come! Especially on days, when I feel down on myself or just not feeling comfortable in my body that particular day!

When I was early in recovery, I knew I had a LONG healing journey, to go through. However, I had no idea how healing really worked. I just knew- IT WAS TIME & I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO MAKE IT ALL RIGHT & HEAL IT ALL…… ALL. Every time I peeled a layer back, there were 3 , sometimes 5 more layers to feel, work through & overcome. (Damnit) When I found out I was pregnant again, it was the beginning of me KNOWING I was responsible for something much greater than I anticipated. It certainly seems, healing never ends. I used to and still receive comments from others that often come in the form of: 📣 I don't think this is healthy training so many days a week. 📣 Why don't you just rest? There is more to life than working out - this was when I was only working out 5 days a week. 📣 Why do you care so much about what you look like? 📣 It's just so easy for you. 📣 Why are you working out? You're pregnant. 📣 Must be nice to have all the time to train. 📣 Weight training isn't good for women. 📣 You should take it easy. These comments have come both from the intention of generally caring as well as from a place of judgment from their own inner critic. But regardless, if I had listened to them, I wouldn't be the confident, self-assured, and energetic woman I am today. Working out makes me happy, and when I was pouring from an empty cup and fitness wasn't a regular thing in my routine, my family noticed my lack of zest, and I noticed, especially with my feel-good mental health. But the last 3 months of being back training regularly 3 days a week and now going to 4 days, I'm in a season of ease with it after 2 years of struggle. But as always life is seasonal and things happen. But if you're experiencing some kickback for wanting to move your body, eat foods that have you feeling lit, or do whatever makes you feel better, do it 💚 Judgment will always be there, whether it's from a place of caring for you or simply put, a place of jealousy. But if it makes you a better woman, mother, sister, daughter, wife, why stop? 🥰 For isn't the whole point of living to feel good within ourselves? So shine bright, you gorgeous human!
