After a ridiculous amount of cancellations. Little man finally had his long awaited tonsillectomy and aneroids removed on Monday. We can’t thank the surgeons, play assistants and nurses for taking the time to meet his needs and ensure he had the care he needed in hospital. Recovery hasn’t been easy with vomiting, high fever, hardly any oral intake including fluids but the first week is always the worst. I have one baby at home not well…which means hot chocolate and coffees all round today! What started off as Heidi suffering from being too hot (got to love that part of ASD) has ended up with her having a cough…no idea where it came from as she has been at home since Monday!! Today was a special day. A visual arts student, who had struggled with focus, anxiety, ADHD, and autism, was finally able to detail an idea she had envisioned last week. Her journey hasn’t been easy. She dropped out of high school after facing bullying, and where her talent for drawing was overlooked. Week by week, we’ve navigated many challenges together. By adopting a nurturing and accepting approach, I supported her unique perspective and imaginative ideas and rough sketches. Today, she had a breakthrough. She realised that her artistic vision is finally being supported, seen and valued. She focussed and created all day today to create a wonderfully detailed story in her unique drawing style. This moment is a testament to the power of understanding and acceptance in education. By embracing her unique talents and perspectives, we’ve unlocked her potential and witnessed the true magic of her creativity. The meaning: Well… Neuro KiND is built on inclusivity & kindness. Simple as that. The ‘ND’ in the word KiND is in capitals as a nod to how some of us refer to ourselves in the Neurodivergent community (Eg: I’m ND = I’m neurodivergent). The colour orange… Well if I’m being perfectly honest, the colour combo of the logo was inspired by one of my daughters jumpers (she’s cool AF). Exam season is well and truly here! 📚 I study part-time for my law degree alongside my full-time job and have my first exam this Friday in the form of a 72-hour legal report. Listen, we didn't choose this life, we've had to come to terms with A LOT, we have had to build up the knowledge, patience, endurance and resources to make this bonkers journey bearable, and hopefully, we reach that point where the light shines through more than the cloudy skies. So have endless amounts of grace with yourself.
