17 days in Colorado meant I had plenty of days to just sleep 🛌 and still had some moments of real joy with beloved friends and family (and meeting @nancyramsdal a another ME/CFSer in real life!). The impetus for the trip was to support my dear friend and fellow ME/CFSer @auntiemegsdesign through cranial surgery. It was a success, and it was super difficult for her, and I was grateful to be able to be there for moral support. She has helped me along this difficult journey so much and although I try not to mention her too often to respect her privacy, I really really want everyone to know how wonderful she is. Even in through severe pain and anesthesia and meds, we find plenty to laugh together about, and I need reminding not to make her laugh quite yet😜. And being under the same roof with another person dealing with a lot of the same symptoms was so peaceful and centering. Truly felt restorative in my heart if not my body. Time with @leftylea & @heypamdavis was too short, but I got some quality tool organizing in and that’s something! Loved spending time with my niece @phoenix_locheart , sister @leslie_nope000 & brother in law @vbachert , learning about 8th grade tea and organizing my sisters dresser/jewelry. Saw some prairie dogs, was a solid trip. It’s #ThrowbackThursday, so here’s 16 year old Clara making peppermint bark for Christmas. This picture was taken before my sudden chronic pain onset and about five years before my EDS diagnosis. That doesn’t mean there weren’t already signs. My heart hurt today looking through old photos. Now that I know the features of EDS, I can see the hyperextending fingers, collapsing ankles, knees bending backwards and twisting sideways. I used to turn my feet backwards and flip my thumbs behind my hands to scare people. I had a sudden onset of asthma and year-round seasonal allergies. I had shoulder and neck pain we chalked up to a product of my severe anxiety. I wonder now how early someone could have realized I had EDS if my medical professionals were educated about connective tissue disorders. My compression socks are my best friend these days. A small study in 2021 showed that compression garments reduced patients symptoms and lessened the increase in heart rate when patients were upright. They have definitely helped on days I feel beyond rough or am battling heart palpitations. The point is for them to move more blood from my lower limbs/legs back to general circulation and returning more blood to my heart that is working overtime. I've been getting a nice tan on my front side by lying on my zero gravity chair in the sunshine. Today i decided it was time to lie on my stomach in the sun, so i set up my old beach blanket and a wedge pillow on the deck. A few days before i started tanning this year, i had a dream in which my legs were fully tanned. It didn't feel like a prophetic dream at the time but I suspect it was, because this is the first time in a decade i have been able to tolerate the sun without having an allergic reaction. At the time of the dream, i didn't know I'd be able to tolerate getting a tan this year. This is the first time in a decade I'm not pasty white all over. Some leftover stock will be available from my previous stall also, including illustrations. As for a profile on myself for the newcomers, I am a ceramicist and illustrator that draws from natural elements such as moss, lichen and rocks themselves. All of my recent works have involved gathered rocks such as shale, and plant ashes in experimental blends. I am chasing rustic blends of colours that satiate and are reminiscent of the rejuvinating aspect of nature. Within my illustrations, this is also reflected, with a more metholodical approach, depicting creature guides and natural scenery.
