'Nother week, 'nother race First competitive swim for ages. And it showed 🙈 Bike was good, but I could push harder. Alas my run got kiboshed with cramp in my hamstring. So, not awful, but not great. However, always a pleasure to enjoy the company of others who make the pain worth it. Hoping my hammy will recover in time for Barry Island triathlon next week. But the big season goal is the European Cross Duathlon Champs next month in Portugal, for which all of this is basically heat adaptation training 🔥🥵🔥 #triathlon #racing #duathletewhocanswimabit #ouch
Meet Lilo! She arrived in BEDR’s care after a run in with a porcupine. 😣 OUCH! Lilo had quills imbedded in her nose, face, chest, legs and inside her mouth. A veterinarian, along with the help of a couple of our volunteers, worked hard to remove hundred’s of quills from her face and body while she was sedated. She’s also had a couple of vet visits to remove quills that had burrowed under her skin or broke off, as her body worked to push them out! After some time healing up from her spikey attack, she is looking and feeling much better! Just look at her sweet smile! She’s now gave up the hunt for wildlife and instead is on the hunt for her forever home! HAPPY WORLD IBD DAY! 🍩 This is officially my first World IBD Day with a Crohn’s diagnosis! Feels great to finally have a set-in-stone answer to the pain and discomfort I have been experiencing for the past (almost) 4 years. 🍩 Lately, Crohn’s has had me in a chokehold. I have had an unrelenting infection/a few abscesses since probably February and have been in a lot of discomfort since then. I think the next step will have to be surgery for a partial colectomy, so that I can finally start on Renflexis (cause you can’t be on infliximab with an infection). 🍩 I still have my percutaneous drain placed, for a little over a month at this point. It is starting to become tiresome, having to have daily nursing care. My drain is leaking and I am worried about the drain site turning into a fistula. :( 🍩 My IBD has been really IBD’ing lately. It sucks. BUT! I’m so grateful for this incredibly helpful and caring community I have here. Tough day in the office yesterday playing the Dry Creek Cthulhu B tier Championships, in Charlotte NC. Things weren’t working toward my favor, and something with approaches was off. Really stinks playing subpar at one of your favorite courses but at least I know what to fix. Well… it’s been 12 weeks since surgery. I babied this foot sooo good my surgeon was impressed with my healing! At 8 weeks he told me I could basically go do whatever (within reason, no 5 mile run) because it had healed beautifully! I still took it easy the last couple weeks. More therapy to break down any scare tissue. Last night… got bitten by a WORM bug at my Aunt and Uncles 30th wedding anniversary party. Woke up to a swollen and bruised foot! Sehgahunda - Full Marathon DONE! Wow! I don’t even know where to begin or how to describe this. Liquori Fit went into the woods feeling good but was presented with a great challenge. The great challenge these races bring demands growth as you fall deep into the pain cave and wrestle your way out. I got out and was victorious! Learned a great deal. My garmin finished with 27.17 miles and 3940 vertical feet gained. Wow and ouch! The way Sehgahunda works with the checkpoints, volunteers, the unparalleled comradery between racers. This is just one of the best and hardest trail races around. As a wise man once said (Alex who ran today), “the hardest and most fun races are correlated if you’re wired the right way. It was so fun because it was hard”. Oh and the mud… the mud was INSANE. Said to be some of the worst conditions of all time. I loved it. Playing in the mud and running a marathon. How can you beat it? Shout out to my family for being there for me today. Just love having them around when I’m doing hard things. Their support really makes me happy when I’m in a tough spot on these races. I’m exhausted and about to crush a pizza and a NA athletic brew. It’s a beautiful day.
