I love this small rice bowl. It's from the April Sherwood Forest Woodfiring. My detailed notes about glazes lack crucial details, so I am a bit hazy about what I applied and how I applied it other than the obvious fact that the rim and outside are unglazed and the wood firing has worked it's magic. It's also got a tiny S-crack in the bottom, so I can keep it for myself. • ᴡ ᴏ ᴏ ᴅ ғ ɪ ʀ ɪ ɴ ɢ Yesterday, our woodfiring group packed the groundhog kiln out at @strathnairnarts. It was one of the most interesting pottery experiences as we were all able to be involved in every stage during the eight hours it took, with the pack ending up being a work of art in itself. We’ll be firing it over four days next weekend, and unpacking a couple of weeks after that … fun times ahead! Yellow! I'm a fan. As Spring arrives fully in the northern hemisphere it seems like the order of the day - certainly the wildflowers are into it. This @sunflower_seeds_ukraine mug was an experiment in the last firing that turned out very nicely. The glaze uses spodumene, a lithium silicone pyoxene mineral 🤓🪨. It performs great on this @rockymountainclay flagstone clay body. Black porcelain vessels. I make these colored porcelains in my studio with recycled trimmings and mason stain. Nothing goes to waste and the results are worth all the effort recycling takes. . The shop is open today, Saturday, 12 till 3. I revisited these flared bowls yesterday. It’s been quite some time since i made them last. Funny thing is, that i got much better at throwing them, in the period where i didn’t throw them… This seems to happen often, as if a skill is developed and rooted in the hands during a break. Interesting isn’t it. Or maybe i just got better throwing skill all together - could also be an obvious explanation, but i tend to go with magic hands ;) They are now on the drying shelf..the bowls, not the hands.
