The trauma facts took me a long time to come to terms with an accept because I didn't want to admit that I had been through any (who wants to). But, I, also, didn't want people to think I was just looking for attention so I just kept a lot of it to myself. The red flags took me a long time to figure out. That's because I didn't realize I was in an abusive relationship until....well, until it was bad. I think I knew. I just didn't want to admit it. It's been said that there are really only two emotional states - love, and fear. That essentially we ARE love. It is our natural state, how we are capable of being, how we WANT to be. Loving, expressive, open and connected. What stands in our way is fear. Fear in all its forms. Fear of the future, of ourselves, of others and how we might appear to them, how we might be judged. Fear of things, fear of experiences, and even fear of feeling fear. So the work is really about addressing fear. And how do we do this? Yes, you guessed it, with love, being in a place of love, compassion and understanding. That's how fear is dissolved, by feeling loved. Heather and Logan have surprised me numerous times with priceless Mother's Day gifts! In 2015 Heather wrote a poem, "Our Love is..." Logan met with her, weekly, to give his input on each of the 17 verses. To add to the gift, Logan painted me a poppy. They mounted the writings and the painting and had it professionally framed. ❤ I was delighted and amazed! I feel so loved!❤ For Mother's Day 2024, I created a slideshow while reading Heather's writing, "Our Love Is," Watch and listen to it on Debbie Jorde YouTube. While Heather wrote the verses to "Our Love Is," Heather and Logan created an audio recording as they talked about our life's experiences together. They gave me the recording, adding to their most precious gift. ❤ Another year, they gave me an audio recording as they read and discussed our book "Eight Fingers and Eight Toes." The whole book! Their love is the most important Mother's Day gift I receive! I get to enjoy their gifts forever! Did you know that self-awareness makes you a BETTER friend?! ⁣ ⁣ And it’s not just awareness of what other people are thinking / needing. For a lot of us, we are MASTERS are reading others but it’s important we name that that super skill we picked up in during childhood comes at a cost - yourself. ⁣ ⁣ Knowing who you are, what you like, what you don’t like — all that is so so important because you want your friends to connect and attach to the REAL you, not the you you think they need you to be. ⁣ ⁣ If you’ve ever seen Runaway Bride, you know what I’m talking about…If you haven’t watched it lately, I’d highly recommend. You see throughout the movie, that her favorite way to have eggs *magically* is the exact same way her partners love their eggs. ✨I almost gave up.✨ I almost gave up on all of it—social media, network marketing, building an online community—all of it. 😢 There are plenty of reasons I was burned out—a stressful job, some health issues, financial challenges, menopause hormones (or lack thereof), etc. The result is that I went quiet.😓 But, then, two things happened almost simultaneously. ➡️ I decided to try some new skincare. The stuff I had been using & that had totally loved pre-menopause just wasn’t working as well anymore.😬 My skin was dried out & dull, and almost overnight I had a million fine lines & wrinkles. So, I took a chance & ordered some Oliveda. Um, HOLY CRAP.😱 Within a couple of days I could tell a difference…I signed up pretty quickly, “just for the discount.” ➡️ I ordered some CBD products from oHHo, & fell in love with them too—especially the seltzers that I think are a great alternative to drinking alcohol.🍹But, still, I signed up “just for the discount.” And although I signed up “just for the discount,” I found myself, for the 1st time in forever, *wanting* to share about these things, wanting to talk about how they were helping me, wanting to talk about things beyond them, again, too… ⭐️So, here I am, dipping my toe back in the water again. ⭐️Taking a chance on myself again. ⭐️Facing my fears and sharing my story again. ⭐️Talking about all the things I am passionate about again—living without alcohol, low tox alternatives 🌿, overcoming anxiety, managing stress🧘🏻‍♀️, rest & productivity, and aging (hopefully) gracefully. 🤩 I almost gave up. I didn’t start this new year off well. We had spent the majority of the previous holiday season with at least one of us sick almost the entire time, and maybe that’s part of what lead to my mental unwellness in the months that followed. I fought it to the point of denial until I no longer could. Until one weekend when I finally admitted it and said the words I haven’t in years: “I’m depressed.” I didn’t hit my rock bottom, but I was lying on a ledge pretty close to it. That’s what it felt like. When it seemed like the depression was finally lifting, a wave of anxiety took its place. I knew I was wrong, but it felt like a battle I was too weak to properly fight. I would wake up sick to my stomach and feeling like I couldn’t breathe properly. I felt like my fire, who I was at my core, had been stolen and I couldn’t get it back. This went on for weeks. I can’t tell you how I got out of it. At the time, I knew part of my solution was turning to Jesus. But I didn’t. Not in the way I really should have. It felt like I couldn’t look at Him because of my shame for not doing so. Yet still He loved me. I want you to know that You Are Not Alone. Christian or not, you are not alone in your struggles. When it all seems too hard; when it feels like you have no strength to fight; when you know something is wrong but can’t figure out why; when you’re so full of heavy darkness or the crippling anxiety that makes you physically sick; when it all becomes too much, you are not alone. When it feels like no one notices your struggles, when it feels like you’re fighting alone, know that there is Someone reaching out for you. You don’t have to fight alone, and the beauty is that it’s not elaborate. It’s a word, a cry of help. He knows your heart, He knows who the cry is for, and He’ll respond. There’s increasing interest in the relationship between cold water immersion (like cold plunging) and mental health, including anxiety. Here are some highlights from the scientific literature: 1. A study published in “Medical Hypotheses” (2018) proposed that cold showers could act as a potential treatment for depression due to their ability to stimulate the “blue spot” in the brain - the primary source of noradrenaline - a chemical which plays a role in alleviating mood disorders like depression and anxiety. 2. According to a research article published in “Neuropeptides” (2018), cold water swimming may have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and antidepressant effects by activating the sympathetic nervous system and increasing blood levels of beta-endorphin and noradrenaline. This could help to dampen the production of the stress hormone cortisol. 3. A case report published in the “British Medical Journal” (2016) followed a patient who used cold water swimming to manage her major depressive disorder symptoms. The patient reported significant improvements in mood, anxiety, and sleep after initiating regular cold water swims. 4. In a research published in the journal “PLOS ONE” (2014), participants who took cold showers reported fewer sick days and a significant increase in perceived energy levels, comparable to the effect of caffeine.
