Mental Health Days- Why are we so afraid to take them? Why do we feel that we shouldn’t take one day off because we aren’t the literal definition of “sick”? Once in a while it is ok and even necessary to take a day for you, even if you are feeling good. “Mental health days” don’t always have to be used for empty emotional tanks. Want a day to yourself to do things you enjoy? Take it! Let them tell you that you don’t need it. Let them challenge it. If you are a hard worker who doesn’t take advantage of sick time, this is for you. Trust me… no one feels more guilty about taking a day off than we do. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health is just as, if not more, important as physical health. Mental illness is real and it needs to be taken seriously. We need to stop the shame and negative stigma that is attached to ment illness. If someone is diagnosed with cancer, diabetes, heart disease or some other physical illness, people rally around them with support. People check in om them. They send cards. They deliver meals. They pray. They take it serious. When someone is diagnosed with mental illness and shares it, often they are not met with the same care and concern. Often it is dismissed. Often people make comments like "everyone feels like that sometimes", "what do you have to be sad about", "get over it" and more. A person with mental illness is just as sick as someone with a physical illness and needs/deserves the same respect. Mental illness is real. Mental health matters. You are not alone. You are not less worthy of love. I had a client today that talked about becoming overwhelmed, lashing out, and shutting down. She didn't understand that at the root of that problem was not understanding what emotion was causing the reaction to occur. Can you allow your senses to awaken and connect with your innate desire to experience all life has to offer? Forgiveness is an act of self love. Emotions can sit in your body and play in your mind for years. When we are going through a transitional phase where we are learning how to embrace and release experiences or a person, we also need to tap into our ability to forgive. Todays self reflection 📝✍🏻 Can you bring awareness to your part of a situation? Can you take ownership of how you could have done things differently? Do you feel seen, heard, cared for and safe? What are ways you seek these things from other people or external circumstances on a daily basis? How can you provide this for yourself without a person, pet or money? When you engage your five senses, it is an invitation to get out of your head and into your body. Connect with nature, be aware of the sensations of taste, touch, smell, sight and sound. Be present with another person, see them and let yourself be seen. You may be a spiritual and intelligent being, but right now the emphasis should be on having a sensory experience. This is the sacred part of this gift of life. Being present with the sensual world, invites an even deeper spiritual experience. Life is amazing, take a moment to stop and kiss a rose. Well what an interesting day….. Started the day positive, went to work and I felt absolutely fine, all good, came home and after I had some lunch I fell asleep for an hr cuddling the dog and I woke up in such a panic, I felt a tad dizzy and I did everything I could to distract with myself, I feel ok now, but I’ve not long got home from work and I have come up to bed. Panic attacks are frightening and after half hr of trying my best distracting myself I felt more “normal” I thank myself that 9 months ago I pulled up my big girl pants and went to the doctor about it and taking daily medication to help. 💊 I was always ashamed to ask for help and admit the struggle but I’ve learnt that over the years it’s ok to not always be ok ❤️ #mayismentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #itsoktobotalwaysbeok #askforhelpwhenyouneedit #citalopram #medication #panicsttacts #panic #anxiety #scary #iexerciseformymentalhealth #exercise #exercisehelps

🤌🏼My dad’s mind was so sharp but also so restless.😬 After Mom passed away … I taught him both how to do pranayama (Breath work) as well as meditate (Learn to just be instead of constantly doing). 🪷”Bahut mushkil hai (It’s very difficult) to not think, beta,” he would tell me. ☮️ I remember telling him that I started meditating because (Sure, I wanted to be productive, calmer, more creative, less reactive etc. etc.) But mostly because I didn’t want the monkey-mind to control my life❤️ ☮️ “You are my guru,” he would laugh and “pay me” Gurudakshina in the form of “mithais.” 🔔 Dad’s story reminds that it’s never too late to take care of your mental wellbeing. My own two-decade experience with meditation has taught me that both our practice and we keep evolving. Be open to change. 🧘🏻‍♀️ What’s your story?🧘🏻‍♀️
