Life is all about who you move with.... Last week we looked at the ways #movement benefits our #wellbeing for #mentalhealthawarenessweek although, thanks to the dreaded sicky bug hitting the Taylor household, I didn't get chance to post about the most impactful of ways movement affects our sense of wellbeing ....who we move, or spend our time, with Our social circle can shape our habits, lifestyle, hobbies, morals & values....even our success & financial habits But, our circle also greatly affects our deeper sense of self, who we consider ourselves to be: Our self-esteem, parts of our identity, our view of the world, our hopes & dreams for the future, our lifespan....our sense of contentment In essence, who we spend our time with affects every aspect of our existence, both present & future, however not every 'negative' is such Spending time with people who are easy to get along with is nice, affirming even....spending time laughing until your sides hurt is fun, but spending time with people who really see you & validate your experiences is beyond fulfilling ....even difficult interactions with others challenge us to heal our own wounds & grow Relationships like these aren't easy, they demand vulnerability, self-acceptance, humility, honesty & the understanding of our own issues & wounds in order to see & accept another's They can be rare to find because we all fear judgement, rejection, hurt, betrayal or lack of acceptance on some level (it all starts in childhood) But in fearing vulnerability, we betray ourselves by denying those deeper level relationships & all the benefits they bring ๐ I honestly believe avoiding 'getting deep', either with ourselves or others, is why people feel so lonely, even in the company of others....or perhaps why #socialanxiety #socialawkwardness is on the rise I've been working on two new courses-Connected relationships & Narcissistic Abuse recovery, which has brought to light my own tendancy to withdraw to the comfort of my own little family of 3๐ ....I look forward to sharing, but in the meantime, what can you accept about yourself & be vulnerable enough to share unapologetically today? Even if just to yourself๐

โฆ Mindful moment 7 is itโs OK to rest. This is probably not what you might be expecting when we talk about moving more, but I very much remember the days when shops were closed on a Sunday and local parks and picnic areas were full of families enjoying quality time together. Whether you are religious or not, we know from an our ancient ancestors that on the seventh day, it was created as a day to rest. Is it really surprising that now there is no designated day for us to rest, and everything must be available 24 hours a day that our mental health, stress, fatigue and everything we do including spending quality time with family and friends is affected. Our body needs rest, it was not designed for constant activity and stimulation. To maintain our mental and physical health, moving more is also about moving less. It doesnโt mean we necessarily have a day of doing nothing, although that is OK, it means we do something that will help us refresh, rest and renew. It could be a walk in the woods, a bit of gardening, a picnic in the park, reading a book, but whatever it is, today is OK to rest, to look after ourselves and our mental and physical health. As mental health awareness week comes to an end, make a move to spend one day a week resting. It really is OK. If youโd like to get out more into nature, and be inspired by all it has to offer, weโd love to see you at one of our fully accessible activities. Did you know? โ Around 1 in 3 (34%) of men and 1 in 2 (42%) of women are not active enough for #goodhealth. โ #Depression is only one of over 20 chronic conditions sadly impacted by our sedentary lifestyle (Source: GOV.UK) This year's theme for #mentalawarenessweek is: "Movement: Moving more for our mental health". What is that small change you can introduce to your daily routine, so that you can move a little more? 5 easy tips I often use in my clinic: 1๏ธโฃ Swap the afternoon coffee for a #briskwalk around the block. It will take you less time than queuing for a coffee at Starbucks but will give you more long lasting energy and adrenaline than a shot of coffee. 2๏ธโฃ Use your #officespace. Squat in the break out area, in the restrooms, while you are stuck in a call. Have some elastic bands with you, to stretch and exercise while at your desk. 3๏ธโฃ Use your #kitchen. Cooking is boring? Ok so kill two boring things at once. Add some workout using the surfaces and things of your kitchen. I love the kitchen workout video from Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. 4๏ธโฃ Swap one office meeting with a " #walkandtalk". Perfect weather coming your way for that... 5๏ธโฃ Get off the bus or the tube one #stopearlier so that you can walk to the office or back home. Which one is more appealing for you? I'd love to know! #functionalmedicine #functionalnutrition #personalisednutrition #mentalhealthawarenessmonth2024

โญโญ A Warm Welcoming Detox Retreat That Truly Works โญโญ "What can I say except THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Viv and all her team. From the moment I walked through the door Vivien, Caz & Kate made me feel not just welcome but cocooned, like I had come to a place of kindness and healing. This is not a trendy spa retreat - this is detox and healing at its very best but with the added advantage of it being in total comfort and beautiful surroundings. I arrived, exhausted, emotional raw and completely toxic and left 7 days later not only 4.5kg lighter but emotionally lighter. What was it like: I went through all the stages of detox: headaches, flu like symptoms, breakouts and then like a light shone on me the mental fog lifted, the weight dropped and my energy levels returned. Viv did some deep emotional healing and I enjoyed a range of treatments, including colonics which were all amazing but I would definitely recommend the drench & quench facial, the detox wrap and the reflexology. The juices were beautiful, clearly made fresh and thick and filling I never felt hungry. The Psyllium & clay I wont lie is an acquired taste but does what it says on the tin. Stripping out the toxins. My bedroom was my sanctuary and was exactly what I needed to relax see photos, bed & linen that you sink into and relax, a helpful desk for me to check emails. The en-suite was again lovely with a bath to soak or a shower to invigorate and that all important private toilet! I was with 3 other guests when I arrived and then 2 others joined. The joy of Simply Healing is that everyone here is here for their own positive agenda so we laughed and listened to each others stories and just enjoyed the company whilst working on ourselves. I will definitely come again." Alex B Alex was a lovely guest that followed the program and embraced everything that Simply Healing has to offer - and a bit more! This year's theme for #MentalAwarenessWeek, set by @mentalhealthfoundation , centers around #Movement. #Movement enhances mental well-being by stimulating endorphin release, reducing stress, and fostering a sense of connection between body and mind. Exercise isn't an anti-depressant but the lack of exercise is a depressant. I love the theme of Movement this year, to support our mental wellbeing. It is of course essential for our bodies to be physical AND it is essential for our minds. Sometimes we think that movement, exercise has to be all out, full on physical activity, often what we have been led to believe, or mistakenly interpreted it to be, with running the legs of ourselves, going flat out until we can't breath or be in a gym session or exercise class for 1-2 hours. This mindset can often put us off and means we might do the opposite instead, nothing at all, no movement. These can be the extremes of the spectrum, which tends to be the way of things, let's do everything now, let's go mad, I need to be fit in 4 days, I need to lose 1 stone weight in a month, or its zero, zilch, nothing, no exercise which doesn't really benefit us at all. Finding a balance is key, movement, exercise is important to support our mental health. We build up our fitness, we become more patient for weightloss etc Feeling well, strong is more important and the fitness levels will gradually improve which means we will do more and weightloss will be a bi-product. When taking care of your mental health, movement, exercise releases those feel good hormones, without it we release none of these. We need to challenge ourselves little by little, moving to prevent stiffness, muscle wastage and good heart health. Choose something you like doing, is essential and start right away, implementing an activity that makes you feel, energised and supports your wellbeing, building to those longer sessions and classes. Only you can take care of you and Action, creates Motivation. #mentalawarenessweek #Wellness #mentalwellness #wellbeing #fitmindfitbody #fitnessmotivationdailykeepsmegoing #fitnessmotivation #fitness #fitnessofmind

We are wholeheartedly supporting Mental Health Awareness Week this May. Our commitment to providing help and support services for our staff everyday of the year, whenever it's needed, gives them the assurance that if they are struggling with any issues, they have access to help. Through our parent company, Heathcote Holdings, we have in place a collection of employee participation schemes that can help everyone maintain a happy and healthy balance to life. Through the scheme, our team have 24/7 access to counselling services that they can contact at any time if they are facing difficulties at work or at home. Whatever their concerns, the services are there to provide support when it is required. With the theme this year being Movement: Moving more for our mental health, the focus is on taking part in physical activity and using it to enhance wellbeing. While at work, many of us are sitting for long periods during the day: working at desks, driving to and from our workplace and even sitting down during our breaks to browse the internet or scroll through social media. Research shows that itโs unhealthy to be sitting or not moving for long. If you are sitting for large periods of time throughout the day, set a timer to take regular breaks to stand up, walk around and stretch your body. Making the best of yourself is self care! A year ago in the crips of chemo treatment I was so grateful for all I have learnt with House of Colour. Being able to easily put together a comfortable outfit in an uplifting colour for me, being able to apply a flattering makeup, even knowing how to tie a headscarf were all skills that I put to full use during treatment. Looking your best fundamentally affects the way you think and the way you feel about yourself.
