Many of the childhood problems we see today would be greatly helped (if not sometimes solved), if we allowed a little more space & a little less intensity. Our children’s brains need both stimulation & REST for healthy development. Choosing to create space in your child’s life, within a culture than values ‘busy’, is giving them a very important gift 💛💛💛 . Note: this post is addressing the normal levels of anxiety we may experience in our daily lives. If you are concerned about your or your child’s chronic anxiety, please contact a licensed mental health professional. #ResilientLittleHearts

Today, our Youth Programs Director, Mia, visited Klinger Middle School to share her story of recovery, crush stigma, and inspire hope with our NAMI Ending the Silence presentation. Thank you for having us, Klinger, and thank you for understanding just how important mental health is! 💚 Ending the Silence is a free, evidence-based, 50-minute session designed for middle and high school students. Your students will learn about mental health conditions through a brief presentation, short videos, and personal testimony from a young adult who describes their journey to recovery. NAMI Ending the Silence presentations include two leaders: one who shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition who shares their journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma. Do these everyday transitions trigger your child? ❗Turning off screens ❗Getting ready for bedtime ❗Going from one location to another You’re not alone. Transitions can be hard for kids because they want predictability. When kids are asked to stop doing something they enjoy and shift gears to something else, it can make them feel uncertain and overwhelmed. The result? Whining, tantrums, and meltdowns. Here's what I want you to know... ⬇️ Maybe traditional therapy hasn't worked for you. 🤷🏼‍♂️ But instead of deciding that therapy must not work for you as a whole, maybe you just need a different approach. 👏🏻 There is more than just one approach to therapeutic care! Each person has individual needs, and it's never about you fitting into a certain type of care, but rather finding what kind of care you need. 👍🏻 As a Board Certified Music Therapist who is also a Breathwork Coach, I bring several modalities to the table. Things like... - talk therapy - music therapy - breathwork - somatic practices - and more! You and your personal needs are what we work to tap into. And if therapy hasn't worked for you in the past, you aren't alone! Know that there ARE other options for you. When you're ready, I'd love to meet you. Together, we'll take it one step at a time. In open relationships, the most important skill around soothing your partner’s hurt is getting good at having tough conversations and then feeling closer at the end of that conversation than you did at the beginning. If you can’t do that, I predict that your open relationship is going to head for disaster. Drama, destruction, and disaster. Feeling like you’re running on empty? Burnout is no joke, but our recent retreat with the HERD Foundation @herd_foundation opened our eyes to some surprisingly effective coping mechanisms. Equine therapy isn’t just about hanging out with horses (although that part was pretty amazing!). It’s about learning to pause, connect, and prioritize self-care in the midst of life’s chaos. So, if you’re feeling the burn, remember to take a breath, reach out to your support system, let go of what you can’t control, and above all, remember that self-care isn’t selfish. 🐴💫 #Burnout #CopingSkills #SelfCare #HERDFoundation ________ #SupportNonprofits #DelrayBeachFL #Delray #FloridaAccountants #NewJerseyAccountants #Florida #EquineTherapy #MentalHealth #Healing

Today, I want to remind you of something so crucial: prioritize yourself. Yes, YOU deserve to be at the top of your own priority list. It's not about selfishness; it's about self-love and self-care. First off, let's talk about what you're putting into your body. Eating better isn't just about looking good; it's about feeling good from the inside out. Nourish yourself with foods that fuel your body and energize your spirit. You deserve to feel vibrant and alive! Next up, sleep. Oh, glorious sleep! It's not just a luxury; it's a necessity for your well-being. Give yourself the gift of restful, rejuvenating sleep. Your body and mind will thank you for it, trust me. Love. Ah, what a beautiful word. But don't forget, the most important person to love is yourself. Shower yourself with love and kindness every single day. You are worthy of love, just as you are. Now, let's talk mindset. Stay positive, my friends. I know it's easier said than done sometimes, but cultivating a positive outlook can work wonders for your mental and emotional health. Choose optimism, even on the toughest days. Last but not least, happiness. Ah, the pursuit of happiness. But guess what? It's not something external; it's something that comes from within. Choose joy, choose laughter, choose to do things that light up your soul. So, let's make a pact, shall we? Let's commit to eating better, sleeping longer, loving more, staying positive, and being happier—for ourselves. Because when we prioritize our own well-being, we show up as our best selves for the world. And that's a beautiful thing. 💖 Comment "FOR ME" below and I will send you a $200off promocode to my Battling Burnout course that will give you the formula to break this cycle and start thriving FOR YOU! If you have experienced an unpredictable, stressful and/or traumatic unbringing, you may find yourself more comfortable in chaos than in a stable environment. Since this is all you know, this familiarity allows you to thrive in these situations. However, constantly being in survival mode can have advserse effects on your physical and emotional well-being. Ask yourself: Do I thrive when I am overwhelmed at work? Do I continually find myself in relationships that are unpredictable? If so, therapy may be a good step to process these feelings!

How do you start your day? I know this one can be a tricky one for parents. It can be really tricky to feel like you are in control of how your day starts. It can feel like you are thrown straight into the day, dealing with all the things that need dealing with. One of the things that helps my clients is to start thinking about ways that they can start their day with something intentionally for them. If you were to start to do something intentional at the start of the day, for you. What could it be? Here are some ideas: 🎧 starting the day with some music of your choice 📖 reading your book in bed for 5 minutes before you get up ☕ make yourself a drink that you really enjoy 🌳 go outside for a few minutes before beginning the morning to do's 🧘‍♀️ a short breathing practice, meditation or a stretch How do you love to start your day? A lot of the time when I work with an anxious person, there is a root of people-pleasing evident beneath the surface. If you find yourself doing the following, you may also be a people-pleaser like some of my clients and also like I used to be - ✨Wanting to be liked by everyone ✨Being agreeable ✨Apologizing frequently ✨Always down to help ✨Putting others’ needs before your own ✨Breezing past your own issues ✨Avoiding conflict ✨Not sharing your opinion. Have you been fighting everything? Clawing, running, refusing to sit with your emotions? Uncomfortable emotions, well, are uncomfortable. It's understandable your instinct is to run, avoid, fight against them. But did you know that it doesn't matter how far or long you run or how hard or long you fight? Your emotions will be waiting for you when you get back. And they often come forward in the 'worst' of times. Once you embrace your emotions, allow them to be apart of living- not everything can be great all the time- the uncomfortable emotions get smaller, less intense and scary. Embracing all parts of yourself is a path to healing and allowing yourself to feel regulated and in control. Embracing your emotions looks like sitting with them, breathing into them and just letting them exist. They will not swallow you whole. The only way to the other side is through. Through the emotions. #narcissisticabuserecovery #narcissism #narcissisticparent #narcissisticpartner #complextrauma #trauma #traumahealing #mentalhealth #posttraumaticgrowth #healing #selfhealers #selfhealing #selflove #copingskills #griefandloss #dissociation

5/23/2024, 8:22:55 PM

The first type of trauma involves automatic responses and mind-body adaptations to specific, identifiable, hurtful events, whether in childhood or later in life. Research shows that many children experience painful situations, such as abuse, severe neglect, poverty, racism, or oppression. These traumas, more common than acknowledged, lead to numerous symptoms and syndromes often diagnosed as physical or mental pathology. Mainstream medicine and psychiatry frequently overlook this connection, except in conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder. This kind of injury, sometimes called “Big-T trauma,” underlies much of what is labeled as mental illness and creates a predisposition to physical illness by driving inflammation, increasing stress, and impairing gene function. Big-T trauma results from events that should not have happened, such as child abuse, family violence, a nasty divorce, or the loss of a parent. All these are among the criteria for childhood afflictions in the well-known adverse childhood experiences (ACE) studies. The second form of trauma is universal in our culture and is sometimes called “small-t trauma.” These less memorable but more pervasive childhood misfortunes can deeply affect children’s psyches. Examples include bullying, repeated harsh comments from a well-meaning parent, or a lack of sufficient emotional connection with nurturing adults. Children, especially those who are highly sensitive, can be wounded in various ways—not only by negative events but also by the absence of positive experiences, such as unmet emotional needs for attunement or the feeling of not being seen and accepted, even by loving parents. Trauma of this kind doesn’t require overt distress or misfortune of the sort mentioned above and can also lead to the pain of disconnection from the self, occurring as a result of core needs not being satisfied. #TraumaAwareness #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealth #TraumaRecovery #CPTSD #PTSD #MentalHealthMatters #Anxiety #Depression #EmotionalHealth #TraumaHealing #CopingSkills #ChildhoodTrauma

Impulsivity... it's been a constant companion in my journey, often disguising itself as a lack of self-control. 🚫💭 Despite making strides, I'm still a work in progress: 🚗 The last couple of cars we bought? Total spur-of-the-moment decisions, including our beloved Honda Fit, affectionately named Hoshi. 🐾 Our furry friend? An impulse purchase, but one that fills our lives with joy every day. 💬 Sometimes, I'll speak before I think, the words tumbling out unchecked. 📧 And don't even get me started on emails. I often overlook important details or realize a crucial point after hitting send. 📤 How does impulsivity color your life? Are you struggling with mental health? Here is a coping tip from Christina, one of our Rehabilitation Specialists in our Oasis Program. Christina states, “I've always believed creating something beautiful helps with coping skills. Art can be an outlet of peace and discovery, where one gets to expose their vulnerability through creativity”. For example: Coloring can be a meditative outlet for self-expression. It requires focused attention and can help cultivate mindfulness. It allows individuals to let go of distracting thoughts and find relaxation and creativity. #SoundCommuntiyServices #creativity #art #selfcare #copingtip #copingskills #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #MHAM2024 #Together4MH #YouMatter

Self-validation can come in many forms but it is when we acknowledge and accept our own experiences, including our thoughts and feelings. We live in a world where we will experience some invalidation from our environment and although validation from others can feel great, it is important that we can provide ourselves with validation as well. 💙 #selfvalidation #selflove #validation #dbt #dbtskills #dbtskillsfordays #emotionalregulation #copingskills #selfrespect

Dealing with negative emotions can be challenging. It's not always easy, but it's so important to learn how to handle them in a healthy way. Remember this acronym as a guide for tackling tough emotions: Pause, Acknowledge, Think, Help. Let's dive into it together and learn how to better cope with our feelings. Brand new intervention alert! I know lots of you have delivered my interventions and it really is something lots of you ask for. To be able to just print and deliver is such a time saver for you. This one is all about emotional regulation - recognising those body sensations, putting a label to the emotion, articulating those feelings, using coping strategies and of course self care.
