Já li “O Acontecimento” e confesso que o achei bastante interessante e intrigante. Contudo, deste livro não gostei. A abertura foi apelativa, bem como a premissa do livro; no entanto, parece que a autora raramente abordou o tema propriamente dito e perdeu-se em infindáveis descrições de espaços ou de aspetos da sua vida na altura. Parece que o livro é basicamente uma grande descrição e não contava história nenhuma, e eu não tive muita paciência. Em O Acontecimento, é certo que existiam várias descrições, aliás, era necessário; já em A Vergonha, estas pareciam-me inacabáveis, uma atrás da outra e foi basicamente nisso em que o livro consistiu. We can feel ashamed to acknowledge we need to talk .. but it’s one of the first steps to recovery. My struggles started with undiagnosed post natal depression which blighted my life and that if my family for many years .. in the days before the internet I hadn’t even heard of post natal depression and thought I was going mad, whjch was a very scary thought. Later on this re appeared as depression with psychosis and only left me when I realised I needed to look at my past pain and trauma. I’m not ashamed to talk about openly about my mental health today .. it is the healthiest thing to do. So much toxic shame masquerades as guilt. We need to understand the difference because we can’t heal what we don’t understand. Shame is based in our feelings of unworthiness, the messages we are taught. Guilt is your conscience… why would your conscience come out to let you know you’re doing something wrong if you’re choosing yourself? It wouldn’t. Denial is about readiness. Readiness to face your OWN demons. It’s easy to blame, to fall into victim mode, to hide or escape and to reject many aspects of ourselves. Facing the truth is not just about courage though - it is about READINESS. Shame and disgust are both core emotions that impact our self concept and our sense of belonging and acceptance in this world. They sit at the heart of our ability to connect to ourselves and to others in a way that is authentic and positive. Healing the wounds that have these emotions at the core is one of the hardest gauntlets to face on the healing journey in my opinion. Like a video game with different levels, we need to complete certain levels of healing to build up the resources and gain the emotional armour to take on this deep wounding without falling apart and wreaking havoc on our nervous systems and sense of self. Never beat yourself up for not seeing things earlier or for not knowing then what you know now. You have worked hard to have the insights you have gained and the journey is continuous and life long. Healing is deeply personal and happens in layers. The more you actively work on yourself, the deeper you will be able to travel. The goal is FREEDOM from your own prison. No one can do this for you and there is no rush.
