Denial is about readiness. Readiness to face your OWN demons. It’s easy to blame, to fall into victim mode, to hide or escape and to reject many aspects of ourselves. Facing the truth is not just about courage though - it is about READINESS. Shame and disgust are both core emotions that impact our self concept and our sense of belonging and acceptance in this world. They sit at the heart of our ability to connect to ourselves and to others in a way that is authentic and positive. Healing the wounds that have these emotions at the core is one of the hardest gauntlets to face on the healing journey in my opinion. Like a video game with different levels, we need to complete certain levels of healing to build up the resources and gain the emotional armour to take on this deep wounding without falling apart and wreaking havoc on our nervous systems and sense of self. Never beat yourself up for not seeing things earlier or for not knowing then what you know now. You have worked hard to have the insights you have gained and the journey is continuous and life long. Healing is deeply personal and happens in layers. The more you actively work on yourself, the deeper you will be able to travel. The goal is FREEDOM from your own prison. No one can do this for you and there is no rush. Jehoshaphat’s decision to ignore the message and proceed into battle anyway was thus a willful act of disobedience. Almost at once, he found himself the target for soldiers who mistakenly identified him as Ahab. He could have accepted this deadly fate, because he richly deserved it. But instead, he mustered the nerve to cry out to God, who miraculously saved him. Unfortunately, few believers remember Jehoshaphat’s brazen request for God’s mercy when they fall into sin. Instead of running to God for forgiveness and restoration, their guilt persuades them to run from him — a lingering instinct from the days in the garden. While we must accept the consequences of our mistakes, Jehoshaphat’s predicament shows us that turning to God is always the best recourse. Day 12- a life lesson ✨ First thing 👆🏽Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers out there. All the women that stepped up in the absence of, to all the woman that lost a mother, all the women navigating motherhood without ever being in the presence of your own, all the woman breaking generational curses, grandmothers, the single mothers, new mothers, soon to be mothers. When I became I mother I realized that our mothers/parents deserve some grace, because they are people just like us trying to figure it out. Trying to learn, unlearn, and relearn the things taught to them. They have traumas, they have a purpose and a journey just like we do. We all navigate our experiences differently so who are we to overly criticize their journey or how they handled certain things 🤷🏽♀️ there are things as a parent that I am not proud of and because we like to downplay our own sin and highlight others. We don’t admit it. There are things I’ve done that wasn’t any better than what my mom did, they were just different. So let’s extend some grace and forgiveness to our parents, ask God to heal the parts of them we know nothing about! Ask that he restore them. We all deserve it. Forgiveness doesn’t mean reconciliation. Don’t let the family that made you bleed onto the family that you create. He is a God of 3rd and 4th chances. Carrying and Giving LIFE is a GIFT! I give gratitude to God for allowing me the honor to be the mother of these beautiful souls! I could not be the mother I am today if it wasn’t for the Lord and Holy Spirit as my helper! I remember years ago when I was being shaped into a mother of maturity and I had to make Christ like decisions. I had such a desire to raise the kids with the heart of God by exhibiting the fruit of the Holy Spirit. I was so hard on myself and honestly still am sometimes. I asked God to help me parent them. I’ll never forget what He said. He told me, “Parent them like I parent you!” Immediately I had the perfect model of a Father and Mother. It was to follow the ways of Love and the fruit of the Spirit. When I lacked gentleness, I’d ask Holy Spirit to help me. When I lacked patience, I’d ask Holy Spirit to help me. When I struggled with anger, I’d ask Holy Spirit to help me …and so on. Guess what? HE DID!! Every time. One thing I learned about being a mother is that it is ok to show your weaknesses to your kids. They need to see you are not “perfect” but God is perfect strength in the midst of circumstances. I also learned to confess and ask for forgiveness quickly when I was wrong. You see, this was my third and fourth chance. I aborted the first two pregnancies I had at 18 and 19 years old. These two children are gifts and I am so honored God gave me a third and fourth chance to carry and cultivate LIFE! @asher.w.white and @annaa.wwhite I am absolutely honored and thankful to be your mother, mom, momma and friend! When I was around 24/25 yrs old I began to study a lot, for the first time with real, true intention, the teachings of Buddhism. One sutra I came across which made a profound impact on me was the 'Sutra of the Deep Kindness of Parents and the Difficulty of Repaying it'. When I read the passages about the sacrifices of the Mother, it shifted my perspective toward my mother and I developed a very deep empathy, & feelings of obligation to repay her in some way- despite the fact that she had literally stolen money from me, lied to me, abused me in so many ways... There was the fact that she carried me, birthed me, fed me and kept me safe as she could best to her abilities... So I vowed to be there for her when the time came, and made my own sacrifices to do so. I had already had a great awakening in my early 20's that my parents were just people- like me- struggling to survive and making mistakes- but until I had discovered this teaching I did not know how to proceed with my desire to fulfill the role of a daughter. Having resentment felt bad, I knew that. Detachment was healthy, but the void of it did not sit well. As a very loving child, my desire to love and be loved was mostly unmet by my immediately family. I found solace from elders, and extended family. I became a loyal granddaughter, cousin, niece, friend, partner, lover... I am grateful for the Buddhist insights which led me to find peace with my Mother while she lived, and helped me to help her find some peace before her passing on. To anyone who has struggled with their parents- I share this Sutra. Let go of the disappointments, and any other negative attachments you may feel, and focus instead on the deep kindness. Remove expectations and you will be able to sit in gratitude, and that is the place to be.
