Exactly 18 years ago to the date (May 10th, 2006) an event happened that changed my perspective on life and caused me so much trauma that it still affects me to this day. Fast forward to today, I’m moving into my very own home with my fiancé @lilmissraina. I never expected to be a home owner, or even dreamt of it. Life is seriously one wild ride, and you’re either going to take control of yours and live the life you want to lead, or regret life altogether and become old and bitter. Growth is seriously beautiful and am glad I am still alive, even though there have been multiple times in my past where I was not planning or wanting to make it to 30 years old. Sobriety from alcohol has also been a major obstacle in my life. I’m going on 5 years of no alcohol and have grown more in these past 5 years than I have in my previous 29 years on earth. As the saying goes, “you grow through what you go through”. It took me years to define what I was looking for when it came to people in my circle. The kind of things I was drawn to, and what I hope others saw in me. Itcame down to 3 basic traits. 🌸 Loyalty 🌸 Honesty 🌸 Integrity With no solid foundation to draw from, I didn’t have any of this until I was 20. It took an enormous amount of work and self reflection to realize this was the fundamentals I needed my children to be raised in. That this person would be someone others could feel safe around and see my truth. My journey was very messy. Honestly I said it before, with my path, I should be in jail or dead. But I’m here, now, telling the world that I demand these 3 traits from myself and others ALWAYS. I don’t want to feel unsafe, to question others intentions and I never ever want to question if I’m being lied to. I want that for my children too. Loyalty means we are a team. We will face the world together. I have your back when you need me and I’ll hold your hand. That there, is love deeper than the BS life will challenge us with. Honesty is to hear you even when you’re saying hard things. We can both speak our truth and feel safe. Making promises you can keep. You are comfortable telling me I have TP on my shoe or crap in my teeth. That’s truth I need. Integrity took a long time to build. But now it never wavers. It’s tied to karma for me. Is my karma worth keeping something or taking credit for something not mine? No it’s not. When I say something , I mean it. My truth comes from love and not from manipulation. It’s simple really. All relationships for me are built on this. As a parent it’s my job to guide my children to live these too. I call them a super power and no matter how rich/poor you are, these are the fundamentals to everything they will do in life. It took me a long time to stop accepting crap into my life that doesn’t belong. I am an adult. I can make choice on how my village is built? Do you have a foundation you build on? Me daba miedo expresar mis emociones, pensamientos, ideas, creaciones… En ocasiones permití que ese miedo me arropara– me ahogara. Podría esconderme detrás del humor y decir, “Bueno, pero hoy día, somo’ Team Menteaná’, tu sabe’, palante’!” Pero el proceso ha sido más profundo de lo que gustaría admitir. El proceso ha sido reconocer a diferenciar lo que es un miedo lógico y un miedo irracional. 💭 Creo que el miedo es bueno. Nos avisa de algo que puede perjudicarnos. El miedo, a veces, confirma el peligro. 🚨El miedo racional nos protege. Las palabras que hoy navegan mi mente cuando siento miedo vienen de la sabiduría compartida por una mujer que estimaba mucho, y dicen así: “El miedo no enfrentado se convierte en pánico”. No escribiré una frase cliché de “¡Hoy, CARPE DIEM, enfrenta tu miedo! ¡Sé fuerte!”. 💪🏻Eso no nos ayuda a todos (de hecho, me ha llegado a desmotivar). 😒Entonces, tan solo empieza por el primer paso… que es admitirlo. I did a couple of things "just because." Here's to the little things that make us smile! 1. My work is pretty casual, because we only see each other on a video platform. I have a suit I never wear, so I created this cute "Casual Friday Barbie" look (with a couple of pieces that are also a little too dressy for my average day) for a lunch outing earlier.
