Shifting how I relate to disappointment has been critical in my ability to go after the things I find meaningful. I've noticed that the more I was attempting to protect myself from disappointment, the more I was guaranteeing a life of disappointment for myself. How? Through frustrating and rejecting our heartfelt desires because we fear getting disappointed, we guarantee disappointment. Would you agree? The fewr of disappointment keeps you in what I like to call disappointment checkmate. We can always find many reasons to rationalize what we won't go after what we want. I've done that... and let's call it for what it is, it's a form of self-abandonment. How do you therefore shift your relationship with disappointment? Odds are you'll have to sit with the pain of earlier disappointments you went through and disconfirm the stories of unworthiness that you may have internalized back then. That pain needs to be metabolized. After that there is the necessary journey of attempting things you fear to fail. And building the muscle of picking yourself up when you get disappointing outcomes. The more you do that, the more you are able to demonstrate to your survival instincts that: 1. You can tolerate going through disappointment without letting it hijack your self esteem. 2. Ohne das sieht die #Zukunft der deutschen #Wirtschaft und des #Wohlstandes in unserem Land mehr als düster aus. Something is bothering me. As I’ve worked alongside a melting pot of people groups in the last couple of months, I’ve routinely witnessed people being unkind to one another in the most seemingly nonchalant ways. What bothers me most is that there seems to be a level of cultural acceptance to it amongst the working ranks. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not naive or sheltered. I don’t see the world through rose-colored glasses. I can tune out the swearing, excuse myself from the gossip train, and politely disagree with slander. However, my breaking point is witnessing non-native English speakers being blamed for improper work, being condescended to by their fellow workers, and being manipulated into doing extra work by their lazy counterparts. This is not right. This is bullying. This is discrimination and racism. Central PA, I don’t want it to be like this. So let’s band together and treat all others with the same respect we hope to receive. When you start to realise that there's inner parts in each of us, including you, it can be tempting to think of them as separate from you, or maybe even distant or independent from you. We tend to depersonalize them, as if they're outside of us, living a life of their own. It's our ego who struggles to fully embrace the uncomfortable reality that these vulnerable areas of our personality are actually us. The more detached we are from certain parts, the more we struggle to identify with them. Maybe we have even completely disconnected from some of them over the years. The truth is we *are* these parts. We are one with them. Inseparable. They, more than anything, make us who we are. They're imbedded in us. They shape our thoughts, feelings and desires. We are literally made out of them and without them we wouldn't be who we are. Whenever you think about your inner parts, reflect on the way you do so. Do you struggle to call them your own? Or even, call them you? Remember that the very road towards healing and integration will be the exact opposite that started the painful separation and dissociation to begin with.
