The unique expressions of the land combine northern Hokkaido clay, which Kudo himself unearthed, with white birch, shells, stones from the Okhotsk Sea shore, rice straw and other materials. We invite you to peruse this daily-use tableware collection created through Kudo’s diligently formulated techniques, face-to-face and with great reverence for Hokkaido’s rich natural landscape.
REWIRED…(re)connect 🤗 I hope you’ll (re)join me this Sunday 3-5pm @artgallerykimberley for a special closing of my REWIRED exhibit. I’ll be giving my “Art of Adversity” talk and both of my daughters will be helping me make this a special Mother’s Day for those who attend. 🎶 💐 I’ll also be revealing a new painting which was in-progress during my opening event. While completing it this past week I’ve reflected on important intersections I’ve had with Kimberley along my journey, and that connection is now built into my painting. 🎨 In 2017 I was the lead of an incredible team which put together a regional conference with over 400 people, held in Kimberley. Someone at my opening reception told me that it’s still, to this day, the best vibe they’ve seen in Kimberley. Invigorating topics, speakers and community dialogue, @colchrishadfield as our keynote, @shredkelly as our entertainment headliner, and so many other Kootenay creatives and services. The conference was themed “SHIFT! Thriving in Change”. It was community building at its best. At that time I was also struggling through concussion 2 of 3 and struggling through a a masters program, which I nearly dropped out of but managed to graduate in 2018. 👩🎓 I had big ideas for what I would do within my organization and with my new education, but that all changed with my injury in 2019. 🤕 It’s been a long 5 year road since, but ironically that road has brought me back to Kimberley and back to building community. I have significantly “SHIFT”ed and am finding where I can thrive again amidst my changes. Kathy Roseth is a Seattle-based oil painter. While painting since young adulthood, Roseth spent twenty years making quilts in the Amish tradition. She graduated from Gage’s Kang-O’Higgins Contemporary Atelier in 2019 and the Flack Core Drawing Atelier in 2020. The group show in Venice, Italy that included the work of Roberto Juarez was curated by 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗵 - titled 𝘼𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙤𝙨 𝙔 𝘼𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙨 and exhibited at Campo S. Polo at Palazzo Tiepolo. Beckett the Heron ✨ With this piece I hope to capture the magic feeling of spotting a heron in nature. I really love these big birds, and love seeing them out in the forest. I remember once, I was riding my bike down a road that was near marshland and forest, and I saw a heron take off. Julie A. Davis is a native of central Vermont and a self-taught painter. She was granted a fellowship to attend the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson in the early 90s and has returned many times over the past 30 years. During her time at VSC, she was invited to paint at the Fine Art Center in Provincetown, where she returned on an annual basis. . Julie is a well-known plein air painter in the area and has an active studio practice. Her subjects vary with environment and desire—landscapes, florals, figures, and abstract work are all fair game as she approaches the canvas. In the same way, her palette and use of materials vary as the need arises. Once coined a “naturalistic expressionist,” her focus is on sharing the workings of her inner experience using subjects from the natural world. . Featured Artist of the Week: Michael Roberts! “My self-taught photographic journey began roughly 20 years ago as digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras were entering the consumer market. I bought my first DSLR in 2003 and began shooting anything and everything. The instant feedback on the rear screen of the camera was my teacher. For years, I faithfully reproduced landscapes and macro scenes. It wasn’t until fairly recently that I began to pre-visualize images and use the camera as a tool to execute that vision.
