“WMATA Trio” submitted by @hou_de_sousa Located within the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s new Headquarters, this sculptural triptych was inspired by the immediate site as well as the broader context of Washington, D.C. Pierre L’Enfant’s visionary urban plan for the district echoes throughout each sculpture, as do the architectural features of Harry Weese’s iconic D.C. metro stations, and Studios Architecture’s WMATA HQ design. In the same manner the HQ and streetscape echo the geometric qualities of the nearby L’Enfant Plaza station, Hou de Sousa maintained this dialogue by deploying a vocabulary of intersecting diagonal lines, rounded corners, and coffered spaces within each sculpture. Have you been to Manhattan’s Financial District lately? Up now until March 30 is a new interactive sculpture presented by the Downtown Alliance - right in the heart of things - in front of 140 Broadway by the design studio Hou de Sousa. Entitled “Geo,” this large scale public art piece, effectively a segmented dome, stretching 30 ft x 10 ft., is made of steel frames and over five miles of fluorescent paracord. In conversation with nearby monumental sculptures by Isamu Noguchi and Mark di Suvero, and meant to echo the towering buildings around it, Geo” brings an eye-catching mix of semi-transparent architectural forms and neon hues that pop against the monotone palette of the lower Manhattan neighborhood. Visitors are invited inside “Geo” - to immerse themselves in light and color and explore the corridor’s labyrinthian paths. Hou de Sousa, Prismatic Prismático é uma experiência caleidoscópica de luz, cor e espaço emoldurada por uma miríade de perspectivas. Única por todos os lados, a peça estimula o público a explorar seu exterior, além de passear por seus corredores translúcidos. Uma corda iridescente tece entre uma treliça de vergalhão, enquanto as lacunas entre essas cordas fornecem transparência e resulta em um efeito visual dinâmico conhecido como moiré. Conforme os visitantes voltam o olhar ou caminham pelo espaço, os padrões no fundo e no primeiro plano convergem e delaminam continuamente, distorcendo a percepção visual e fazendo com que superfícies estáticas apareçam em fluxo. O Prismatic foi projetado e moldado por meio de um processo de competição de forças. Os prismas explodem de um ponto central, mas estão presos aos limites de uma caixa. Thrilled to announce that our proposal “Flights” has been selected as a winning entry for Kansas City International Airport’s New Terminal! The piece celebrates Kansas City’s history of musical innovation as well as the act of flight and the streamlined forms that make it possible.
Several years ago we developed this proposal as an alternative to Prismatic. While not ultimately selected, it remains a unbuilt favorite.

“Bounce” is a celebration of collective perseverance that links together thousands of individual parts into a unified gesture of positive momentum and change.
