I don't know if everyone knows or realizes this, but I have a full-time job LOL It's still in travel writing (I create branded travel content for @dotdashmeredith's magazines; primarily @travelandleisure and @foodandwine, but any that are open to publishing travel articles) but traveling itself isn't a huge part of the gig. I work 9-5 EST, M-F from my computer 👩💻 but since my position is remote, anyway (yes, everyone knows that I'm in Mexico!), I can #workfromanywhere so long as I have WiFi 😎 That means that any picture I'm sharing of a hotel, a fun activity, etc, was taken and experienced *after* working hours. Virtually every trip I take is a #workcation, not just because I'm researching articles, but because I'm clocking in 8 hours/day! 🥵 I write additional articles (and now books 😉) as a freelancer, because that's what allows me to travel and tell the stories I'm really passionate about! So that's an additional part-time job I'm working on top of my full-time job... all while traveling and trying to experience as much as possible. I love my life, but it's A LOT of work, and not as glamorous as you might think! Also the pay sucks lol but that's a topic for another post 🙃 This photo was taken on a recent visit back to New York (it is VERY BIZARRE to stay at hotels now in the city instead of my own apt 😳😵💫), where my company, like most in American media, is based. A month ago today I was Spirited Away. It's crazy how it's already been a month since I joined millions across the US witness the April 8th Eclipse. I've been reflecting quite a bit on the whole event, from the planning to the execution. Yes, that 5lb tripod could hold the weight of your 4lb lens and camera, so you didn't need to lug that 10lb Manfrotto tripod on a 9 mile hike. I had a mental block that the Manfrotto would be more stable. You should not have worn so many layers of clothing. You should not have packed EVERYTHING into such a small bag. Only the essentials. You should have gotten a GoPro (or at least borrowed one). You should have definitely started the hike earlier (start at dawn). You should have quadruple checked to make sure you had enough water (and had a water bottle and not just a thermos). Maybe take out the drone and pay the fines later. I don't know....that would have been a poor viewing experience for other people around me listening to the drone flying in the air. One thing I noticed over the weeks was how most photographers kept the eclipse ratio relatively the same size in the sky with the foreground, so I decided to descale the eclipse from the 105mm perspective down to 24mm perspective (same as with the foreground) using a sun reference I took the same day at 24mm. And to tell you the truth I prefer this composition far more. I originally wanted to upscale the eclipse at 105mm to show all the details, but just to match the true experience I wanted to share this version with the proper ratio.

This is the new Gansevoort Beach, located along the Hudson River near the Meatpacking District. It’s part of the Gansevoort Peninsula, a new part of Hudson River Park that opened to the public in 2023. Just to the north is Little Island Park, the other wonderful and celebrated addition to Hudson River Park that opened in 2021. Hudson River Park runs 4.5 miles next to the river from 59th Street all the way to the bottom of Manhattan at Battery Park. Along the way there are may offshoots into the river with playgrounds, parks, sports venues, etc. (you can see one on the left side of this photo). What makes the new Gansevoort Peninsula different, in addition to having a little sandy beach, is that unlike all of the others which are built on piers or remnants of piers, this was built on solid ground. The structure you see is a sculpture gifted to the Hudson River Park by the Whitney Museum of American Art, located just across the street. It’s one of the largest public art installations in NYC, a work by artist David Hammonds. It follows the exact outline of a structure that stood on a pier that was once there, honoring the changing history on the Hudson River waterfront.
