🪩 _new exhibition NYC: 200 Fifth Avenue. We are excited to announce our collaboration with @alex.schweder ! Schweder proposes an installation of his inflating and deflating floating disco balls. Swelling and sagging, animated by the fill and empty of air, the mirrored disco balls will reflect the changing light from day-to-night and from one another. This effervescent installation will engage with passersby through its reflective quality and intriguing movement. While disco balls typically conjure images of raucous dance parties, Schweder’s lightweight spheres offer gentle movement that allows viewers to imagine their own personal soundtrack. On view from May 2024. Alex Schweder, born in New York City, 1970, coined the term “Performance Architecture” in 2007. Architecture both gives cues for how we are to behave, and offers itself as a prop for us to form and perform our identities. The term, and ensuing practice, conceptualizes such an understanding of architecture. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Britain, Performa 17, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale. He is a fellow of the American Academy in Rome and currently lives and works in New York City. "Das Grosse Tableau/ The Big Picture,” is on view at HALLE 14 Centre for Contemporary Art (Spinnereistr. 7, 04179 Leipzig) through December 2nd. This group exhibition features Cuban artists Alex Hernández-Dueñas & Ariamna Contino, along with artists Joyce Kozloff, Agnes Meyer-Brandis, Susan Schuppli, Ward Shelley, and Till Wittwer. “Das Grosse Tableau/ The Big Picture” explores the link between knowledge, sight, art, and science, highlighting how viewing leads to knowing, and tools such as maps help give shape to abstract information. Heute startet unsere neue Ausstellung "Das große Tableau"! Sehen und Erkennen, Kunst und Wissenschaft sind seit ihren Anfängen verbunden und können sich gegenseitig im Wechselspiel befruchten. Kunst bot Entfaltungsspielräume für Visionen und Spekulationen. Manche von ihnen wurden sogar Wirklichkeit. Zeitgemäß oder revolutionär war Kunst stets, wenn sie das jeweils aktuelle Weltwissen ins Bild fassen konnte. Kategorien, Bilder und Methoden der Wissenschaft sind selbst immer auch Abbild des aktuellen Weltverständnisses und als solche Gegenstand der künstlerischen Inspiration und Kritik. Kann uns die Kunst Orientierung im Überfluss und Widerstreit der Informationen geben? Hat sie Methoden, falsche Gewissheiten zu hinterfragen und Neues wie Zukunftweisendes zu erkennen?
