Did you know that you can go garnet fossicking in the middle of a paddock in the NT? Neither did we! Thank you so much to Sally from @gemtree_caravanpark_nt for taking us and another touring couple on our garnet fossicking tour. We headed along the Plenty Hwy and turned into an unassuming paddock quickly learning that it was a garnet field. As total rookies we were shown the ropes and given hot tips on where to dig and what to look for. We got red dirt everywhere, but came back a few hours later with a treasure tin rattling with possible targets. Our garnets were graded and we're pleased to say that our keeper pile was far bigger than our 'just rocks' pile. We even found a couple of pretty decent graded gems that can be cut. Not bad for first timers! If you're after a bit of fun, definitely give Gemtree a go. It's approx 140km from Alice Springs, up the Stuart then along the sealed section of the Plenty Hwy. The meals at the shop are fantastic and they'll even deliver dinner to your site! By all accounts, the seasonal camp oven dinners are next level. Le camping est géré et optimisé pour placer tous les campings cars côte à côte, c'est fou ! The campsite is managed and optimized to place all the motorhomes side by side, it's crazy! West Macs (Part 2) There are so many amazing spots out in the National Pakr, it's hard to choose a fave. Featured in this post: ✨ Ormiston Gorge - this gorge is all kinds of amazing. The water level appears to be quite high after recent rain. We waded across to a sand bar where the views kept going. Plenty of people were swimming deeper into and around the gorge. ✨ Glen Helen Gorge - access into the gorge was via a slashed track and dry creek bed before popping out into another creek. The force of the water was evident here with access to the water currently limited to one spot. Still amazing! ✨ Ochre Pits - a short walk takes you to the creek bed where the face of the ochre pit cliff opens up around a bend.
