#Reflecting 🙇🏻 My music journey started 30 years ago, at Hilo Intermediate School. There I met Lansford Kamelamela, and Tony Kahauolopua who were already rippin’ on da ukulele. They showed me a little bit, then I was hooked and determined to learn more. Not long after learning the basics on the Ukulele, I picked up a guitar and taught myself to play Opihi Man. And then I kept on going, growing pains a many, but had fun doing it and impressing myself with every step I took. Found my voice and kept improving on the guitar. Met the right people thru the years 🤙🏽 The reality is, I’m still learning, I’m still having fun, and blessed with every opportunity I get because I feel like I’m not supposed to be where I am musically. It all happened by chance. Been thinking a lot about change. How I never seem to notice when it’s happening, caught instead in the moments of realizing it’s happened. Oh, I can hold that better now. This is harder for me to deal with. I am a stronger singer. I guess I love mushrooms now! I am too hurt by what happened to do what you’re asking for. I understand. I am lost. I am in love. I am all of it. And yet, sometimes it feels like I am never one thing long. And then I miss myself. How can I both mourn and delight in what has changed and is changing? Perhaps, rather that a new self, I am just more. Getting closer and further all the time, because I am no one thing, there is no one destination, and so I wander, and mess up, and remember things I forgot, learn things I already knew, and try even harder when I should probably just rest. Felt like 2 minutes ago my first year Esports students arrived to university. Today they finished their final lesson & move onto 2nd year after summer. When did i get so old that teaching makes me feel like a proud dad 😌 Being able to positively impact people's lives & share my own knowledge & guidance is truly a blessing. A much needed hike close to home. 🚶🏼♀️🚶♂️ I didn't feel like posting anything on Instagram for a while. Busy with work and hospital visits. And what I thought was dealing with depression and trauma turns out I am now also officially a long covid patient. 3 years ago I got corona for the first time. No taste, no smell, sore throat and feeling like there was 10 kilos on my chest while breathing. 1.5 years ago I got it for the second time and since then my health has gone downhill. Because not much is known about it, I thought my complaints came from something else. But now, after many examinations, I have entered the process for long covid. A week ago i got new meds and in 3 months I should be on full dose. Somehow I feel relieved that I'm diagnosed with long covid, even though there is no cure and that I'm not just going crazy. Because so little is known about it, few people take my health problems seriously, because hey, everyone gets tired sometimes, right? 😤 I just try to ignore those people and focus on what makes me feel better. Walking is one of those things. It is good for my fysical health, but it also clears my mind. I am counting down, in 3 weeks I will be walking the Walk of Wisdom again. Something I've been looking forward to for months. Get away from it all and concentrate on myself. R E M I N D E R It’s easy to feel frustrated when you have a lot on your plate. Ever stop to wonder how you ended up where you are now? Maybe, it’s the fifties, for me it’s a regular set of thoughts these days. One huge rolling conversation with numerous perspectives. Sometimes a sort of deep regret (sorry to all those offended by the word), in other moments a type of wondrous gratitude, then the occasional sad remembrance and even a, “Wow you really have lived, way to go!” Perhaps this is what it is to reflect on the past. In today’s hyper positivity, looking back with anything less than a successful climb the ladder tale of progress is a sort of taboo. From my perspective, this journey has been a wandering switch back with too many turns and surprise vistas to figure out which way I was going to begin with. I like it better that way. Day 51 and happiness had us out exploring. Today, we had a wander up at Hadrian's Wall. It was a love site to visits and we had a lovely time exploring and learning about the Romans and the wall. It was a little bittersweet as this is one of the places we would have come to visit with Wayne if we'd have made it to Haltwhistle.
