Tulips II Here in Ottawa the tulips are upon us now. Thanks to a long history dating back when Canadians played a significant role in the liberation of the Netherlands, an accomplishment for which the Dutch still remember us today. After the war, the Dutch people and Princess Juliana expressed their thanks to Canada by sending thousands of tulip bulbs to the Capital. The Gift of Tulips became a yearly tradition. Arts Network Ottawa is honoured to have collaborated with Marg Boyle @marg_boyle_arts with the Eagle and Condor Collective @eagle_and_condor_collective who designed a new logo for our Creative Continuum Conference! Inspired by this year’s theme of ‘Gardening,’ this artwork, “a logo created from a hand painted stencil print, represents the iconography of the garden metaphor in relation to our world and the state it is in. The image represents seeds of change and paths of interconnectedness that healthy vibrant Arts communities create. The seed of the milkweed mirrors the egg of the Monarch butterfly. Between @merrickvilleartsguild @merrickvillesmakersmarket and all of the other groups, solo creatives, and hobbyists there seems to be creativity blooming in every corner of our small village in the Ottawa Valley. Life lately ~ working on a lot of projects lately (some I can show eventually and some I won’t 🙂), preparing for ballet choreography season (truly thrilled!), piano practice (something I started in January and have been loving), dog walks, the tiniest accidental honeydew melon from our garden, harvested the remainder of our apples (left some for the squirrels cause sugar buzzed squirrels are ADORABLE), the best ready to bake croissants and our incredible postal worker who is so generous and kind 🥰

Monday September 25th, we launched our art exhibit in partnership with local Indigenous artists from the Brascoupé family.⁠ ⁠ The exhibit is titled Akì eji pimadjiwomagak, meaning Land Connection. It is a multi-sensory, visual, audio and augmented reality exploration and celebration of Indigenous public art and artists in Ottawa. The exhibit is a camper featuring a mural on all four sides and painted by Algonquin Anishinabe artist, Emily Brascoupé-Hoefler ( @emilybrascoupe ) , and her family. The camper greets visitors with one single, powerful and inviting word: “Kwey”, the Algonquin word for ‘Hello”. The art highlights culturally significant imagery and stories related to the land, water, animals, nature and Algonquin ingenuity.⁠ ⁠ All you have to do is download the Engage Art app and follow the Land Connection Outing. ⁠ ⁠ Please tag us whenever sharing your photos!
