Sometimes we get bogged down in thinking ‘I need to start a new thing’, and ‘what can I do?’. But how about thinking ‘what’s already out there that I can support?’ and ‘how can my skills be useful in this transition?’ When we ask the right questions, we’ve got a greater chance of making the right choices, and taking a big weight off our own shoulders while we’re at it. “Equal Opposite Reaction” Glass, yarn back with my second big piece from the past semester! this piece references the salt flats of the Lithium Triangle in South America, and the extractive processes currently taking place in the region. Between heat waves, rising sea levels, and environmental degradation, it's easy to feel powerless and discouraged. But before we succumb to despair, let's listen to a different whisper, a whisper carried on the wind – the whisper of nature's resilience. This beautiful poem by @ahmedshoummo that we're exploring today captures this essence perfectly: In whispering wind, a seed takes flight, a tiny promise on the breeze, though storms may rage and shadows bite, life finds a way through gnarled old trees. This single seed, so small and seemingly fragile, carries the potential for an entire future forest. It speaks to the unyielding power of life, its ability to find a way even in the face of adversity. Nature constantly reminds us of this: The sun, a constant, paints the sky, a golden brush on morning dew, though oceans rise and glaciers sigh, nature renews, forever true. The sun, a symbol of unwavering hope, continues to rise each day, painting the sky with vibrant hues. Even as glaciers melt and oceans rise, nature finds a way to adapt and renew itself. This inherent resilience isn't just about survival, it's about action: The spider spins, a web so fine, a testament to patient grace, though doubt may cloud, and darkness twine, hope intertwines in nature's space. The spider meticulously constructs its intricate web, a testament to patience and perseverance. Just as the spider doesn't give up even when faced with darkness, we too can find strength in our actions. The poem concludes with a call to action, a whisper urging us to join the dance of life: So let us rise, with hearts alight, and join the dance, both strong and free, for even in the darkest night, the green shoots whisper, "We will be." This is the true essence of climate optimism – it's not about ignoring the challenges, but recognizing nature's resilience and channeling that into positive action. We are part of this dance, and even the smallest steps can contribute to a greener future.

🌳TREES FOR TOMORROW🌳 At Mayoka Youth Hub we’re passionate about making a difference, and Trees for Tomorrow is just one of our impactful projects. Our goal? To combat deforestation in the Nkhata Bay District of Malawi by planting more trees and providing an alternative livelihood for local communities🌱 Partnering with the local Mandezu community, that has requested help to stop the massive felling of trees, we are tackling the root causes of deforestation while also simultaneously reforesting 20 hectars of depleted land🌳 That means we’re not just stopping at tree planting. Through initiatives like beekeeping, fruit tree planting, and livestock breeding, we’re trying to empower and provide locals with a sustainable source of income, reducing their reliance on logging for survival🥑🍯🐣 Finally, we aim to plant 20.000 trees over the next two years, contributing to the global fight against climate change by mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and preserving precious eco-systems🌳🌍 All intiatives and projects are done in collaboration with the local community, the NGO GoGreen and the Malawian government✊🏿🇲🇼

He is renowned for his journalistic efforts during the Taliban era in Swat Valley, Pakistan, where he produced a significant number of reports and stories. Additionally, he has extensively covered various floods in the Swat region. Notably, Sherin Zada had the privilege of conducting an exclusive interview with Malala Yousafzai, the first Pakistani female to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, from Oslo, Norway. Contrary to popular myths, simply switching from plastic to tree-based packaging is not an environmentally safe option. Replacing plastic with paper only put pressures on forests. Yes, trees can regenerate, but primary forests are irreplaceable as they contain 35% higher carbon stocks than logged forests on average and many species rely on intact forests for their survival. Why settle when we've got we have readily available alternatives? As the evidence shows, Next Generation Solutions: ✅ Produce 95% to 130% less GHG emissions ✅ Use 88% to 100% less land ✅ Have at least 5× lower impact on biodiversity. The President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, held a special cabinet meeting underwater. The meeting was about the problem of too much carbon pollution in the air. This pollution is causing the Earth to heat up, which makes the ocean water warmer. When ocean water gets warmer, it expands and takes up more space. This causes the sea level to rise. Rising sea levels are very dangerous for the Maldives and other islands because they are so close to the ocean. Many parts of the world also have large populations living near the coast, so sea level rise affects them too. The melting of ice from glaciers and ice sheets also adds water to the oceans, making sea levels higher. President Nasheed held the underwater meeting to show how serious this issue is for his country and other low-lying areas. Ever had a pot of pasta boil over and create a big mess? What about a zucchini plant - one day it's a seed, the next day it's a seedling, and by the evening your friends have stopped answering their phones because they don't want any more of your zucchinis. These are tipping points, where things build slowly and then flick over into fast change. We hear about climate tipping points a lot, but there are other kinds as well. Social tipping points are the really exciting ones - the #schoolstrike4climate movement is a recent example. But so are school gardens - in the 1990s they were rare, then before you know it they're everywhere. Likewise with #farmersmarkets #repaircafes #mensshed #thriftstores #communitysupportedagriculture and even #tinyhouses. When we're working for a cause, it can feel like a really long game. Things move slowly, or it's even one step forward and two steps back at times. Failures can feel crushing after so much work. But all of this is building something. And at some stage, we reach the crest of the hill, and the view from the top takes your breath away. In an unexpected turn of events, Thomas Stelzer, the Governor of Upper Austria, found himself at a standstill on his way to a state reception in St. Florian.
