This will be my fourth exhibition with the gallery and coincides with the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix 🏁 Press release by the great Simon de Pury Michael Kagan through his work is paying homage to the ultimate heroes of our time. Astronauts, supersonic fighter jet pilots and, as in this stunning exhibition at Almine Rech, Formula 1 racing car drivers. The subjects of his spectacular paintings and sculptures are superhumans who brave all obstacles and fears in their obsessive and passionate pursuit of records, speed, excellence, and victory. In doing so they put their own lives on a razor’s edge and galvanize millions of motorsport fans lovers around the globe. Their multicolored helmets and racing outfits further emphasize their status as superheroes. Monaco is the ultimate setting and the most prestigious venue in the history of Formula 1. There could not be a more appropriate setting and time to present, for the first time, this unique body of new works by Michael Kagan. It is surprising that, apart from the Italian Futurists who celebrated the automobile in their work in the early 20th century, hardly any artists of any caliber have focused on this fascinating world. In the more recent past, the German photographer Andreas Gursky is one of the few exceptions. I had the privilege of selling a gorgeous astronaut sculpture by Michael Kagan at an amfAR gala auction during the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. It took off like the rockets that take astronauts into space and after heated competition between several collectors, sold for a record price and raised badly needed funds for the AIDS charity. Last month, we headed to Brussels to meet with the glorious and refreshingly straight talking @chloewise_. It was the eve of her solo exhibition ‘Torn Clean’ at @alminerech. Walking around the show, you pored over flesh-tinted paintings—the artist or her friends posed semi-clad in her studio—chaotic still lifes littered with cigarette lighters, Tic Tac boxes, and Aquaphor tubes, alongside her larger-than-life sculptural Band-Aid box. The exhibition was inspired by ‘Harm’s Way’ (2023) [pic 3], a portrait of Wise’s friend with a gummy yearbook smile and a taunting trickster’s face. The painting had been living in Wise’s Manhattan studio (‘right by the Empire State Building, it’s so New York you wouldn’t believe it!’) for a year as Wise tried to pinpoint its place in the world. ‘To me, she became a human Band-Aid,’ Wise said. ‘Her smile provided a sanitised narrative of the violence—the PG version of the bloody ordeal.’ It was a highly entertaining interview which you can read on Ocula—link in bio. #ChloeWise #AlmineRech #OculaAdvisory #ArtAdvisory #Ocula

Entitled “The Stolen Memories,” the exhibition will be on view from May 18th to July 28th, showcasing 18 works by the artist, including 12 new paintings and works on paper. @mehdighadyanloo @thelongmuseum • Known primarily for his gigantic trompe l’oeil-style murals in central Tehran, Ghadyanloo also creates paintings, with surreal and minimalistic themes. He provides an autobiographical perspective, portraying the landscapes of his youth, his memories of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988), and his life experience in the Islamic Republic. Ewa Juszkiewicz at Palazzo Cavanis in Venice 💫 Organized by @faba_arte Collateral Event of the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia @labiennale In her versions of old portraits, Juszkiewicz cultivates a traditional pictorial craft, painting in layers, with many glazes, following the brushstrokes of the original work. But her technical virtuosity would be useless were it not at the service of a transgressive project. By covering the face of historical portraits, Juszkiewicz challenges the very essence of this genre: she destroys the portrait as such. Her paintings are no longer portraits of anyone in particular, but representations of the condition of women under patriarchy.
