LIFESTYLE CHANGE DURING INTEGRATION. 🧩 As a sugar addict, here is what my nightly sweet treat looks like these days 👆 pretty good, considering it’s normal for me to finish off an entire pint/bar/bag. But it’s a behaviour I’m working on changing. Addressing my sugar addiction is going well because I’m aiming for the middle way rather than an extreme. Going from one extreme to another is abrupt, and almost always leads to yoyo-ing. 🙂↔️ The middle way with sugar for me is to still eat it, but treat it like a meal, as in, “dressing it” with a fat or protein (thanks for that one, @glucosegoddess). My body wants so much less sugar when I’m having it balanced with other nutrients. We live in a society where we have been programed to fit the mold. To fit in with the expectations from our community or families. Not speaking your truth is giving other people permission to form your life. It is allowing the world to create your reality instead of you creating your own reality. When you stay silent and go into people pleasing, you are breaking your own boundaries. And when each boundary is broken, you enter into a freeze response. Afraid to be seen and afraid to feel emotions. Over time in the freeze response your body starts to break down because built up anger is living inside your body. Anger is the response to a boundary violation. I invite you to notice when you start to freeze and go walk outside. I believed what I couldn't see as unknowable. That quickly changed when I started working with 🍄. Showing me things I never imagined existed, my knowing of the world--internally and externally--expanded greatly. I quickly realized my beliefs were limited by my life experiences and I wasn't done living my life. By declaring what I couldn't see as unknowable I was blocking the possibility of being awed by future experiences and expanding my knowing. 🌿 This challenge, and sometimes pain, of feeling like we live in and belong to two separate worlds, especially after life-changing and/or entheogenic experiences, is something common that I hear a lot of and have also experienced. I imagine this is likely more a thing of cultures (for example, the one I was raised in) where we no (longer) have the narrative, cosmovision, social and cultural containers and frameworks, for these experiences, to acknowledge them in one other, nor to understand them. Which means, we need to find ways to create them ourselves, part of why I think integration circles are so helpful and powerful. 🌷 I remember one particularly strong experience of this came for me after a vision fast, which ended up being for me like a rite of passage that I didn't know I was missing, opening up more intentionally my path towards fully stepping into my womanhood. I came back afterwards to Berlin and felt confusion, pain, and sadness, of feeling alone back in this other, wildly different, world of mine, and struggling to find the way and place to fit in this woman that came forth in the mountains. After weeks of this, and not finding it fitting to just share in casual everyday conversations with even close friends, I called a meeting, a sort of ceremony in its own rite, of a few of my closest friends, with the declared intention of sharing about my vision quest. I shared important stories, highlights, takeaways, of how it impacted and changed me (while of course keeping many things still sacredly secret with me and the mountain). As I brought my dearests with me, to witness the shifts I felt in me, there was such relief and connection that came, and, this important step towards merging these worlds. Whether it be integration circles, or finding any way that works for you -- considering with whom, when (not rushing), where, how -- encouraging you to share, with intention and care, of course still keeping dear and close to you some things that may be just meant for you ❤️ and Her. A common question I get from clients is, "How do I know if I'm integrating?" I like to break down integration, of any type of experience, into three stages. Stage 1: The KNOWING stage where the experience has happened and you are gathering the knowledge gifted from the experience. (Example: Gifted the knowledge that lack of good sleep plays a big part in the anxiety you experience daily.) Stage 2: The KNOWING HOW stage where you have choose bits of knowledge and start applying them to your life through skills building and repeated practice. (Example: You create a sleep hygiene routine that includes putting down electronics an hour before bed and setting a desired bedtime.) Stage 3: The KNOWINGNESS stage where the skills you've been practicing become a part of your routine, a part of your being, they no longer take effort and become second nature. (Example: You no longer seek electronics before bedtime and your body naturally wants to fall asleep around the same time each day without having to set a schedule.) Remember, integration is a lifelong journey, we're constantly--consciously and unconsciously--processing these three stages with everything we experience. how do psychedelics and somatic s*x education complement each other? My psychedelic experiences unlocked a door that allowed me to *begin* finding my way home to my body – by giving me a taste of what being home in my body felt like. Somatic s*x education (SSE) has helped me *be* home. As a practitioner offering both somatic s*x education and psychedelic support, I am cautious about whether and how I bring these practices to clients. I think they are complementary, but require *a lot* of spaciousness between them to ensure healthy presence and consent. Psychedelics can be a powerful tool for shift, where SSE is less about a sudden shift and more about building a lifelong presence and pleasure practice. In addition to using these modalities to help clients come home to their bodies, I’ve also found an embodied self-pleasure practice is a wonderful integration tool for psychedelic explorers. 🤍 ANOTHER LITTLE INTEGRATION UPDATE 🐸 TBH life is overwhelming right now. I know I owe you guys a 5-MeO integration update episode 🎙️ next month (how has it already been 5 months?!) but I’m so deep in it right now… it might come a little later after things settle a bit. Here’s just a little integration update in the meantime. 🤍 I’m working through a few major blockages right now thanks to my new found “super-awareness”. Here are two: ❤️🔥 ON LOVE: I’m blocking love because I’m afraid that if I fall in love, everything else will crumble. I have so much going on that I need to be “fully on.” If I am not on, everything will crash; and I will lose everything I worked hard for. If I fall in love I will lose myself and disappear into the person. So I block the love. I’m working on reframing this story to say “the right love, the real love, will only lift everything up. Cause that’s what love does.” 🧲 ON ATTACHMENTS & ADDICTIONS: my attachments to sugar, canna•bliss, and screens are no longer working in the way they once did. They did their job in the past, to numb me and give me a break from the overwhelm of life. But now… I am hyper-aware of how these things are harming me, that it’s actually kind of miserable to engage with them. But I’m still physically and habitually hooked. These things have no place where I’m going, and the next version of me who is in a greater level of service, cannot afford to experience the energetic drains these attachments cause. The lifestyle change away from these attachments is slow but steady. I have to take a pause every now and then to remember I *AM* making progress every day. And I plan to keep going! I’m already making strides with sugar, consuming much less inhaled canna, and the TV… well, that’s a work in progress. My MSc research into psilocybin and microdosing taught me a lot. I had in depth conversations and some of the stories had me in tears when I was transcribing them. There were also some snippets of gold in these conversations and I’m so grateful for how open and honest my participants were. Spiritual Bypassing is rampant in many spiritual and healing circles and it can be extremely detrimental to the process and one’s well-being. I personally experienced this in my journey and it’s a topic I feel is vital to discuss. ESPECIALLY for recovering people pleasers and those working through narcissistic abuse/codependency & cPTSD - people who have been programmed to suppress their emotions to appease everyone around them while they abandon themselves. (I like to call this the “Stepford Wife” phenomenon… you’re only valued if you’re a smiling and serving robot and discarded and devalued if you’re not happy and high vibe 24/7) *this does not happen only to women, I just think the Stepford Wife example clicks AND women are naturally more emotional beings and labeled “crazy” too often* It’s also the perfect tool for the sneaky “Spiritual Narcissist” to use against someone expressing a valid and natural human emotional response - especially to oppression or abuse. We then get stuck in a cycle of shame wondering why we can’t “vibe high” all the time when it’s absolutely unrealistic and NOT the goal of true healing. We should feel anger and frustration and sadness in response to certain life events - especially mistreatment from others. The longer we keep suppressing these emotions and judging them as wrong or “low vibe” the longer we stay stuck in a spiral of suffering. One of the best things about my work/life is all the magical people I have met along the medicine path. So many people I have fallen in love with over a retreat or a few months working together. Brothers & sisters who have become family. How that word means the most to me that it has ever meant the longer I do this work. I am always astounded that it is so possible and beautiful to make chosen families that we create ourselves. How strong those bonds of support and love and understanding can be. And how Spirit brings the most fantastic people right to my life at exactly the right time. Today, please meet my wise hearted spirit sister Christiana Schelfout. She is a multi-faceted healing artist who works with sound, movement, singing, plant medicine, integration, and tending to the nourishment of the body. At 20, a call for healing brought her to the study and practice of classical yoga and tantra. In traveling to the origins of global spiritual traditions and connecting with her ancestry, she was awakened to the world of spiritual herbalism and ceremony. These traditions led her down a path of inquiry into the healing potential of the descension process, devotion to the body, earth and mother. This was supported by studying matriarchal histories, women’s health, and birth. Today, through the support of her community, she shares the experience of soul directed living, healing and wellbeing. Christiana carries the embodied experience of recovering from mental and physical illness. She is the founder of @animatehealing , where she hosts a directory of aligned providers and practitioners of spiritual and plant medicine work and provides mentorship and 1:1 support. Life is a trip and the world is a perceptual illusion. Often, what you see on this outside is a reflection of what you see on the inside. In the words of Anais Nin, “we do not see the world as it is, we see it as we are.” When it comes to matters of sense- and meaning-making, the world we experience is a creation of our perception. We see what it is we expect to see. In this way, we create our world through our interpretations of reality. To create a more enjoyable life experience, we can focus our energy on choosing a perception that allows for joy, peace and fulfilment. This is deep work. This is the energy work I do with my 1:1 coaching clients.
