Ganymède, 120 x140 cm, 2023 @gillianewarzee In Greek mythology, Zeus had Ganymede kidnapped by an eagle because of his beauty, and made him the cupbearer of the gods in heaven. Large coffee table from the 1960s by Danish designer #arneolsen Arne Ho Olsen. The structure is made out of solid teak and the lower tabletop is roped. Hovmand-Olsen’s furniture is characteristic of Scandinavian design: clear, simple, light lines. Arne Hovmand-Olsen was born in Denmark in 1919. He soon became interested in drawing and design. He began his career in 1938 and soon keen to design and produce his own creations. His success is unquestionable; he sold in Denmark, but above all in the United States. The vivid and seemingly unreal strong color contrasts truly exist, reminiscent of renowned painters. Two of the most notable artists in this regard are #VincentvanGogh and #WassilyKandinsky. Van Gogh was famous for his post-impressionist paintings with vibrant colors, while Kandinsky was a pioneer of abstract art, using bold color contrasts to evoke emotions and create innovative compositions. While recently walking in the Luxembourg countryside, I was surprised by the very real existence of what one might think of as dissonant colors in nature. Opening this Thursday 27 June: new summer exhibition #douceinsolence. One of the two artists exhibiting is Dominique Gringoire. After a very active life as a decorator in Brussels, she felt the revelation of the power of images to interpret emotions. It was an eye-opener for her, and only a few years ago she decided to devote her full time to it. She finds her raw material from magazines where she digitally cuts images and reworks them to give her compositions a certain aesthetic appeal. Her interest lies in the details and the relief, which she works on with great finesse. Of course, this surrealism and touch of humour don't leave us indifferent. What about you? Our opening is approaching: This Thursday 25 May join us and meet #alvaromarzan, Spanish painter living in Luxembourg. After a residency in Neumeunster Abbey where he develops a dialogue between painting, architecture, history and nature, he will present a series of colourful imaginary shapes and watercolors like seascapes where natural elements calmly collide. His creation process is of twofold : paint with his brushes on the floor or apply the oils on the structure already formed. Anne Loriers has developed this peculiar drawing technique with stamps formed by erasers that she sculpts and places sporadically over her papers. For this painting she used the erasers she sculpted during one year, one each day. Every face tells a story. Will you guess which one? He is famous for his modern approach to design, influenced by his European origin. After a successful live in Brazil designing exceptional pieces for famous projects, he came back to France where he passed away less than 2 years ago.
