Total Body Circuit โœ… 30 minutes walking pad Every time I do this workout I think, โ€œman Iโ€™m really struggling todayโ€, but I donโ€™t think itโ€™s me anymoreโ€ฆ itโ€™s this freakin workout ๐Ÿ˜…. Like who thinks that starting off with 16 reps of decline push ups is ever a good idea? My goal was to make it thru all 3 sets of 16 reps with the decline push ups today, unfortunately I only made it to 10 on the last set. Still more than I did last week though! Next week is the last week of the phase so Iโ€™m bound and determined to get all 3 sets in. Progressed in weight in all the exercises too. CHEST AND TRICEPS ๐Ÿ”ฅ Chest and tricep workouts have really grown on me over the last few months. I especially enjoy doing body weight exercises. They've been very challenging for me, and I find myself truly pushing to failure. It's exciting to see the progression in strength as a result. Plus, I have fun doing the exercises! It's a win-win ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜ Workout details: 1. Alternating staggered pushups- 3x max reps 2. Bear stance deficit tricep press- 3x max reps 3. TRX decline pushups- 3x max reps 4. JM press into overhead extension- 4x8-12 reps Make sure to come back and up at a diagonal (instead of straight up) to maintain tension throughout the movement (these are awesome! One of my new favorite tricep exercises! I especially like doing myo rep match sets with these. They will FRY your triceps ๐Ÿ”ฅ) 5. Incline dumbbell press- 4x8-12 reps 6. Decline dumbbell press- 4x8-12 (My bench doesn't recline back as far as I'd like, so I put some dumbbells underneath to get a steeper incline. Seems to work pretty well ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ) 7. Straight bar "rocking" tricep pushdown- 4x10-12 reps (Getting the arms further back behind the body targets the long head of the triceps, while a regular pushdown only targets the medial and lateral head of the triceps. This exercise involves all 3!) 8. Cross body duel cable extension- 4x10-12 reps (I like these because one side can't compensate for the other. It's good to work this way to help with muscular and strength symmetry) 9. Dumbbell fly with band- 3x 8-12 reps (the dumbbell has the most resistance at the bottom, while the band has the most tension at the top. This way, no tension is lost at the top part of the movement) 10. CHEST AND TRICEPS In this workout, I wanted to play around with different push-up variations. I've been doing a lot of push-ups in my training recently, and I've noticed a significant improvement in my strength (I've doubled the amount of reps I can perform and am performing more difficult exercises) For you beasts out there, you can increase difficulty by adding resistance bands, a weighted vest, or by increasing the decline or depth. 1. Decline dead stop push-ups-3x max reps 2. Plyo push-ups- 3x max reps (This was my first attempt trying these. It was a little rough but fun. I'd like to get more air under me. Now I'm pretty motivated to bust out some more, higher quality reps in the future ๐Ÿค—) 3. Reverse lunge single arm tricep extension- 3x10-12 reps each side 4. Deficit push-ups- 3x max reps 5. "Barbell" overhead tricep extension-3x8-12 reps 6. Decline barbell press- 3x8-12 reps (a spotter would have been nice ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ) 7. Diamond push-ups- 3x max reps (great for targeting the triceps) 8. Dumbbell and resistance band fly- 3x8-10 reps (These are pretty challenging. The resistance band ensures there is tension throughout the entire movement. Try it out ๐Ÿ˜Š) 9. Straight bar cable tricep extension-3x8-12 reps 10. Change up~ Are you killin it with your Pushups? Getting a ton of repetitions in without a struggle? Well if so, time to change things up and challenge your strength with these types of pushups on the decline. How are they different? During both traditional and decline pushups, your pectoral (i.e. chest muscles, triceps, back, front deltoids (upper arms and shoulders), upper back (trapezius, serratus), and core muscles are all working. However, thanks to the more-intense angle of a decline pushup, your upper pectoral muscles and front deltoids bear more of your weight and work extra hard. Also, the change in angle and weight distribution also means your wrists face an extra challenge. So doing decline pushups can help make them stronger, which in turn can improve your grip strength. So the next time you bust out Pushups and it felt easy, think about challenging yourself and trying them on the decline. Your body adapts to doing the same repetitive exercises and movements.
