CHEST AND TRICEPS 🔥 Chest and tricep workouts have really grown on me over the last few months. I especially enjoy doing body weight exercises. They've been very challenging for me, and I find myself truly pushing to failure. It's exciting to see the progression in strength as a result. Plus, I have fun doing the exercises! It's a win-win 🙌😁 Workout details: 1. Alternating staggered pushups- 3x max reps 2. Bear stance deficit tricep press- 3x max reps 3. TRX decline pushups- 3x max reps 4. JM press into overhead extension- 4x8-12 reps Make sure to come back and up at a diagonal (instead of straight up) to maintain tension throughout the movement (these are awesome! One of my new favorite tricep exercises! I especially like doing myo rep match sets with these. They will FRY your triceps 🔥) 5. Incline dumbbell press- 4x8-12 reps 6. Decline dumbbell press- 4x8-12 (My bench doesn't recline back as far as I'd like, so I put some dumbbells underneath to get a steeper incline. Seems to work pretty well 🤷‍♀️) 7. Straight bar "rocking" tricep pushdown- 4x10-12 reps (Getting the arms further back behind the body targets the long head of the triceps, while a regular pushdown only targets the medial and lateral head of the triceps. This exercise involves all 3!) 8. Cross body duel cable extension- 4x10-12 reps (I like these because one side can't compensate for the other. It's good to work this way to help with muscular and strength symmetry) 9. Dumbbell fly with band- 3x 8-12 reps (the dumbbell has the most resistance at the bottom, while the band has the most tension at the top. This way, no tension is lost at the top part of the movement) 10. . Happy Tuesday! Day 42: Yesterday’s fitness adventure included an attempt at staggered push-ups. Trying not to over think it but admittedly, mastering a push-up on my knees is still a hurdle. The allure of progress though, keeps me going. Staggered exercises, like this, (especially when done properly 😛) offer more than just a physical challenge. I learned that by engaging opposing muscles boosts stability that mirrors the unpredictability of real-world movements… especially at my age 😂 In daily life, we rarely face perfectly balanced situations, like carrying groceries or navigating stairs. It’s been too long and I really missed my #foamroller Scroll 👈 to watch 5 of the many ways you can include a roller in your training. I am also combining a long #loopband for some #shoulderstability #shouldermobility and 🌶 of course! ⭐️ #staggeredpushups are pretty advanced and require more muscle stability than regular presses. ⭐️ bridging against the resistance of the band is a big favourite of @zaynagold so it must be good right? 😃 Moreover bridging on the roller is just delicious ⭐️ #shoulderflexion is not my strength, gently pulling out on the band helps me a lot to find useful connections ⭐️ for the standing option keep a strong grip on the roller, the further away the roller, the harder the exercise. ⭐️ resistance bands leg extensions will be forever part of my knee strengthening programme. Plyo push ups are great for increasing upper body power and explosiveness. There are many variations that you can do but here is one you can try: 1) ALTERNATING STAGGERED PLYO PUSH UP ◾This variation tests coordination and stability of your upper body. Because it is staggered, it also increases unilateral (one side) strength. ◾Start in a staggered position. Perform the plyo push up, and switch positions while in the air to repeat on the other side. Friday Tabatas never disappoints. Today was killer, but we finished and I’m so glad I showed up. Friday is the day, right? Getting ready to chill a bit for a few days. But chilling doesn’t mean I have to throw my hands up, go crazy, and forget about the goals that I have set for myself. So while I might not workout as much on the weekend (if at all, currently) as I do during the week, I still try to keep my nutrition on track. That means lots of water, the perfect supplementation (no, nothing I sell. No MLM. Just what I need), and lots of rest. Rest is key y’all. Staggered Push-ups. I surprisingly find these easier to do than regular push-ups. Get into a straight arm plank, hands under your shoulders. Your feet should be hip width apart, make sure you are stable; not too wide and not too close together. Move one hand closer to your rib cage, elbow at 90° and the other hand should come slightly forward in the front of your body. Lower down and push up. Now move the opposite hand forward and the other slightly back next to your rib cage. If you can't do this in a full push-up position (yet) lower to your knees. When you are on your knees, push your hips slightly forward so that your bodyweight is still maintained in your upper body. Introducing another push-up variation that I have never done before (except now) but it seems to be a "not too bad" exercise ... in my opinion. . It is called the Staggered Push-up because of the position of the arms. With proper form, you will enjoy this variation but without it, you could definitely injure yourself. . Benefits? Well yeah, it's got some which include an awesome upper body hypertrophy. 💪🏾💪🏾 and core stability training. The rear arm tends to do most of the work and it really does work your pecs especially. Also, if you want to work on your arms individually, this exercise is great for that. . By the way, pls note that if you have a wrist injury already or your wrist is just not flexible enough, maybe work on your wrist flexibility or don't attempt this exercise at all and rather try other safer variations. . Anyways guys, I'm a huge lover of push-up variations 😁 (the cool ones tho) and this is one of the cool ones. Decent #f45thepiston session with @train_with_jj and @tyler_robertson3. It may not seem much to you but until today, I’ve never done three sets of #pullups, with a minimum of six reps per set. In January, I couldn’t even do ONE REP. I’m glad to see the progress but gutted the #lockdown means that will inevitably slow down over the coming weeks. #firstworldproblems, I know, but frustrating nonetheless. Take your push-up to the next level with these staggered hand push ups. Different hand position provides a different challenge to your muscles and activate more the muscle fibers of your chest and triceps muscles. . How to do it :- Start in a push-up position with the hands wider than shoulder-width apart and the legs straight out directly behind the body about hip-width apart. Squeeze the thighs and glutes while moving the right hand forward a couple of inches and the left hand out a couple of inches to the left side. This will create an uneven hand position. Slowly lower the body toward the ground then back up to return to the starting position. . Do 2-4 sets of this exercise with alternate hand positions for as 8-10 reps. 5 different types of push-ups. These push-ups will work your triceps, chest and shoulders. 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀. Method 1 - Standard push-up. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 and 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘀. Start in a plank position placing your hands shoulder width apart. Keep your shoulder back and down with your elbows slightly back. Lower your body till your chest and chin brush the floor. Method 2 - Diamond push-up. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘀. Start in a plank position with your hands making a triangle shape. Keep your elbows tucked into your sides. Lower your body till your chest and chin brush the floor. Method 3 - Wide push-ups. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 and 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. Start in a plank position with your hands wider than your shoulders, roughly 3/2 and a half foot apart. Lower your body till your chest and chin brush the floor. Method 4 - Decline push-ups. 𝗨𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 and 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. Start in a plank position placing your hands shoulder with apart and your feet elevated. You can use a bench or box if you are in a gym, or at home you can use a chair. Lower your body till your chest and chin brush the floor. Method 5 - Staggered hand push-ups. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘀. Start in a plank position with one hand forward and the other backward so they are offset by 6 to 12 inches. The farther apart the more difficult. Keep your elbows tucked in as much as possible and lower your body till your chest and chin brush the floor. Switch hand in each set.
