There are many fitness influencers posting bodyweight circuits, but that’s likely not what got them looking muscular. (Calisthenics can work, that’s not what I’m saying, but often these circuits posted are not going to be super effective for building muscle) There are many fitness influencers eating 2300+ calories per day But that doesn’t mean they’ve always been able to do that, or have never gone through a fat loss phase where they are eating 1600 or less Context is important! REALLY excited for this 3rd contest season with Louise. We spent an entire year bulking up. Taking Louise to the biggest and strongest she's been. It wasn't easy and it's never pretty. Habit Definition: a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. I am proud to say that my 10-16 oz of water daily before coffee has finally paid off. Good ol’ classic social media confusing the f*ck out of everybody again. All of a sudden it’s a trend to slate every bit of food that isn’t nutritionally complete, doesn’t give you 150% of your micros in each bite or isn’t organically grown and hasn’t been hand delivered to your front door by the the Greek gods. Unfortunately, that’s not helpful. Here’s a few examples of why you need to consider other ideas and maybe have a broader attitude surrounding your food choices. And before you move on, please take note that eating a balanced diet full of nutrients IS important. But there’s a few other things that are important too! Calories. If you want to lose fat, you need to be in a calorie deficit. Simple as that. Can’t be argued. Convenience. If you are not eating food that you find convenient to eat, you will not eat that food for very long before you return to your old ways. Enjoyment. Same as above, if you don’t like what you’re eating, I can’t imagine you’ll be eating that for long either. It’s neither as simple nor as complicated as just “eating clean”. 40 years old and incoming. Key Lessons 👇 "Do I feel run down, deprived & burned out being in this level of shape?" (The goldilocks zone) The human body is fascinating in the sense that there is this goldilocks zone you can learn to hit, where you are able to unlock levels most think are not possible. A classic example is a LOT of fitness people Many coaches will get lean but feel terrible. Their energy is low. Sleep is broken. High anxiety. Low Libido. Cravings are out of control. Digestion, awful. And they will use a lot of things to mask and blunt those signals. To grind through all for a "look". It's also why many people will achieve a result and not sustain it. Equally.. The other end of the spectrum. Someone who is 20+ lbs overweight. Or is just overall unhealthy. Will have many of the same issues. You CANNOT truly be optimal (especially mentally) if your physical vessel is not conditioned and good. Low energy. Mental fog. Sleep apnea. ADHD. Anxiety. All fueled by being in this chronic, inflammatory state. if you ever ruck with a weighted vest. It can wear you out pretty quick. So imagine having a weighted vest of body fat on 24/7. No wonder folk feel tired by lunchtime. The goldilocks zone is this sweet spot. Where you get to your physical target. But all your blood markers etc are very good. And you FEEL good. Example? My C Reactive protein score from last week's blood work. In this image at the top. 0.2. VERY low. I've seen guys up at 4..5..6+ THAT is literally a heart attack waiting for a place to happen. Business guys/gals. Guys with a good financial base. But the inflammation in their body is off the charts. When blood markers are great. It means your: Energy Mood Focus Cravings Sleep Etc. All tend to be much better. And when you get to that place, it is MUCH easier to sustain a high level of physical result. And I share this to encourage you: 1 - To get detailed labs run often (especially markers like Hs-CRP / C reactive protein). 2 - Realize when you focus on the data and optimize how you FEEL, the physical body will follow. 3 - You CAN achieve and SUSTAIN both. It is not some trade off like MOST (CONT. 👇👇) .

It’s the small changes you make that will have the biggest impact…..even though they might seem insignificant at the time! … People often underestimate the impact small changes can have as they get far too focused on what it’s giving them in that moment,instead of what that will add up to over time! …. Swapping a bagel for a bagel thin for example doesn’t seem like it would do much. But you could lose close to a stone in a year for the calories saved if you did that every day! … The small detail of me stopping my client from pulling the Lat Pull Down down too far for her shoulders capability won’t feel too dramatic in the moment but over a year could be why she doesn’t get a shoulder injury! …. And walking a few tube stops each day could add up to an extra 15K steps a week. That’s an extra 780,000 steps a year! …. Your body might be telling you that it’s needing a break from dieting Flashback to my bodybuilding days, a lot of these symptoms are ones that I know all too well. The fatigue, the lack of sleep, the “dieting brain”. Unless you’re competing, these symptoms should really not be something you go through when cutting. For myself and any of my clients, I watch this so carefully! Losing your period as a gal just trying to lose some body fat is NOT normal. Having no energy to even make breakfast is NOT normal, sleeping for a few hours a night because you’re hungry is NOT normal. If this is starting to ring a bell for you, the girl I have some tips to take you out of this phase. 🌸 Implement diet breaks. Leaving yourself in a deficit for too long can lead to negative metabolic impact and make it a lot hard to come out of a deficit while keeping your results. 🌸 Avoid dieting for more than 16 weeks, keeping dieting limited to only a portion of the year is far better for your body 🌸 Don’t just divide one day to eat have your calories less! Be smart, calculated and slowly taper your calories down to avoid negative impact. Last point and no I’m not trying to plug myself here. If you’re unsure about dieting, invest in a coach that has experience with macros and nutrition management. Metabolisms can get really messed up if you diet too hard or long. Plus, it can lead to the good old rebound weight piling on after which a lot of us know all too well. Start small and listen to your body. 12LBS DOWN SO FAR SINCE CHRISTMAS ▪️Start weight Dec 2023 167lbs NOW: 155lbs ▪️NOT TRACKING with MFP (eyeballing food only) ▪️Eating nearly the same thing every day ▪️ONLY EATING when actually hungry ▪️Cut down on refined sugar and processed foods so main snacks now are fruit and Greek yoghurt ▪️1 takeaway/meal out a week (except Chinese because I find it too greasy) but eat less during the day to save cals for the evening ▪️4 weight training sessions a week (powerlifting programme) ▪️8-10k steps daily ▪️Weighing in x3 a week and getting average ▪️Prioritising sleep It's not a massive difference but I feel SO much better than I did in December. It’s not about finding the fanciest, most aesthetically pleasing ways, just about finding what you enjoy, can have consistently, easiest and the least expensive way. Protein, carbs, fats, natural sugars, fibre in one meal. 👌🏽 Yoghurt - easy way to get protein in the first meal. Good for gut health, avoids having to cram protein targets into meals later in the day. Spread it out, you’ll achieve it easier. Cereal - a great mix with yoghurt, you have carbs, fats and in this case, small chocolate bits to satisfy my sweet tooth. Fruits - we all know the benefits of them. Get them into/between meals where possible. When in a deficit it’s easy to feel hungry, it’s a great way to “bulk up” certain meals ensure you feel full for longer, minimising the chances of snacking. 💥 Does weight loss / weight maintenance get harder as you age? Well, yeah. A lot of things become more difficult as you age. Does that mean you're doomed and you can't do anything about it? Nope. Here are some reasons why weight loss gets more difficult as you age. 1-you're not as active now. In your 20s, you were walking around campus and spending nights out with friends. Or maybe you just spent more time doing movement based activities. You can make a conscious effort now to get your steps in! Just a walk every day can do wonders. 2- stress levels are higher now. In your 20s, your biggest stressors were finals week, who's dating who, working part time jobs, etc. now you have a career. A family. Lots of bills, in laws you get it. More stress can make you eat more without even realizing it. 3- your eating habits have changed. Maybe in the past, you could have "eaten anything you wanted and maintained your weight" well yeah. You were very active and you burned it off. But now, maybe you are having more wine nights, eating off your kids' plates, stopping by the pantry at night more often.. you get it. 4- your sleep quality might be worse. If you are only getting 4,5,6 hours of sleep per night due to life/kids/ etc. then you are going to be hungrier and have trouble staying full. Thus, you eat more calories without realizing it. 5- you might be losing muscle. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. It's not a crazy boost or anything. But it helps. And people with more muscle mass can maintain their weight on a higher amount of calories. Get back in the gym a few times per week! You've got it. 6- experiencing hormonal changes. Especially menopause. Menopause makes things more difficult in all aspects. But look at all the strong women who are currently in menopause... they show up for themselves and try their best. You can still work on your health and fitness during menopause. You can absolutely lose weight / maintain your weight as you age. It will just take a more conscious effort compared to your 20s.
