Juarez Valley Method Dips (chest finisher) For well over half a century, since the days of bodybuilding pioneers Vince Gironda and Marvin Eder, dips have become a staple of chest size and strength routines. You’ll be doing these dips in a different way, using the Juarez Valley Never heard of the Juarez Valley Method? This method isn’t from some celebrity gym: It’s straight out of Cereso Prison in Juarez, Mexico (and first brought to the public in Jailhouse Strong). So expect it to be simple but brutal. Do It Right: According to the masterminds behind the Juarez Valley Method, you do reps in descending order on all odd-numbered sets, and ascending order on even-numbered sets. So you do 10 reps, then 1 rep; 9 reps, then 2 reps; 8 reps, then 3 reps; and so on until you meet in the middle at 5 sets. A “Juarez Valley 10” looks like this: Set 1: 10 Reps Set 2: 1 Reps Set 3: 9 Reps Set 4: 2 Reps Set 5: 8 Reps Set 6: 3 Reps Set 7: 7 Reps Set 8: 4 Reps Set 9: 6 Reps Set 10: 5 Reps Between each set, walk 8 feet away and 8 feet back—the length of a prison cell—for a bit of recovery. Don’t add weight to these over time; the goal is to improve exercise density by getting the sets done faster and faster. lean forward as you dip to put more emphasis on the chest and less on the triceps (want to blast the #backarms stay upright.) Mukyu!~ :3 What you see here is one way that I do weighed calisthenics when I have plenty of energy to spare for it by working my way up to a single with a low volume warm up, then work my way down with high reps at a high level of intensity. I normally approach weighed calisthenics with a density approach for the majority of my training by doing plenty of sets with sub-maximal effort in the 3-5 RIR range with an average of 2 minutes of rest between each set. However, since I decided to start with weighed calisthenics today and leave the usual lower body work on the backburner to today, I could put more effort into it. Today’s workouts complete! Got to the gym after work and got it in before rehearsal! Started on the treadmill with a 12 minute hiit workout, combined with a full body workout with dumbbells and kettlebells. I finished off my gym time with some body weight abs. Well y’all this is the first time coming back on my Leg day and I just hit a 315 POUND DEADLIFT PR 😁 I haven’t lifted weights for about a month and a half, but I was still working out every single day with calisthenics. When I was back in the gym I remember I couldn’t even lift this weight off the ground, but now when I lifted this weight it honestly was easier than I imagined. That’s why I love bodyweight training so much because there is a lot that transfers over to weight training. Even though I was working out legs from home I was performing variations that were targeting different leg muscles that I usually don’t focus on in the gym. I mostly worked on my stability muscles and explosive leg movements because I usually never do them 😅 I have noticed when I start focusing more on bodybuilding I forget about the different exercises that calisthenics has for Legs that can also increase a lot of my strength. So now that I have worked on them for the past month and a half I was able to use them to increase my lifts. 👌🏽 . I noticed my grip was a little to narrow, and my shoulders caved in a little bit but my back was still completely flat and straight, so I wasn’t breaking form at all. Honestly I’ve been feeling amazing these past few days. I think the main reason is because I am able to finally hit the gym again, and I am already starting to PR on certain exercises 💪 I definitely think there is no other feeling then hitting the gym especially when there is so much stuff going on in life. It’s just one of the best ways to release all the stress and negative emotions that your carrying. Also, I am finally taking some of my business core classes and I’m loving it. It feels like I am finally able to learn about things I’m actually interested in. I was kind of feeling overwhelmed thinking how college is going to start and so much work is going to be piled on me, but it actually hasn’t been tooo bad . . . Yet 😅 My professors light weight scaring me with some of their future assignments but it shouldn’t be that bad tbh 👌🏽 . I am hoping for yall that started school are doing good as well, and the work load isn’t getting crazy on the first week, especially since everything is online now 😬 I am going to be honest sometimes I do get real tired of sitting in my room and doing these zoom classes, but you know what can we do 🤷🏾‍♂️ We all just gotta push through 🔥 Hopefully things turn and get better soon.
