CHEST AND TRICEPS In this workout, I wanted to play around with different push-up variations. I've been doing a lot of push-ups in my training recently, and I've noticed a significant improvement in my strength (I've doubled the amount of reps I can perform and am performing more difficult exercises) For you beasts out there, you can increase difficulty by adding resistance bands, a weighted vest, or by increasing the decline or depth. 1. Decline dead stop push-ups-3x max reps 2. Plyo push-ups- 3x max reps (This was my first attempt trying these. It was a little rough but fun. I'd like to get more air under me. Now I'm pretty motivated to bust out some more, higher quality reps in the future ๐Ÿค—) 3. Reverse lunge single arm tricep extension- 3x10-12 reps each side 4. Deficit push-ups- 3x max reps 5. "Barbell" overhead tricep extension-3x8-12 reps 6. Decline barbell press- 3x8-12 reps (a spotter would have been nice ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ) 7. Diamond push-ups- 3x max reps (great for targeting the triceps) 8. Dumbbell and resistance band fly- 3x8-10 reps (These are pretty challenging. CHEST AND TRICEP WORKOUT ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ This was fun, but it was definitely tough! I bought these bars so I could modify certain exercises that have bothered my wrist. They worked so well! 1. Decline deficit push-ups- 3 x max reps 2. Parallel bar dips (focus on lower chest)- 3 x max reps. DO NOT SHRUG YOUR SHOULDERS! Lean forward slightly to put more emphasis on the lower chest. 3. Reverse grip decline dumbbell press- 3x8-12 reps 4. Kneeling overhead tricep extension- 3x8-12 reps 5. Deficit push-ups- 3x max reps (I would have liked to have shorter bars for this, but what I could have done instead was elevate my feet a few inches to get my body more parallel with the floor to make it more challenging) 6. Parallel bar dips (isolating the triceps)- 3 x max reps. DO NOT SHRUG YOUR SHOULDERS! 7. Dumbbell fly with resistance band- 3x8-12 reps. The resistance band makes this way more challenging! It prevents the loss of resistance at the top that comes with the basic dumbbell fly. 8. Prone tricep extended angels- 3x6-8 reps. Keeps triceps fully contracted and slightly behind the body to hit the long head of the triceps. 9. Superset Standing Tricep Press Overhead Rope Tricep Extension Tricep Pushdown 3 More Reps! (Book 2, 1979) From Book 2 of Three More Reps! (1979), I took two movements from the chapter on Dave Draper, The Blonde Bomber, and one movement from the chapter on Kalman Szkalak and put them together for a three-movement superset. Hitting three back-to-back movements with no rest between sets is excruciating, but that is the point, namely, to shock the muscles and increase hypertrophy. The different positions and angles of the three movements provided a rather complete bombardment of the three heads of the triceps. The exercise I will show you is overhead triceps extension. ย  The stability is not the best, but acceptable. The biggest problem is getting into the starting position, especially if you are stronger. It will be hard to stay in the same position afterwards. This was the case for me and many others. ย  The fatigue is similar to other triceps exercises, but the torso is also fatigued because you are leaning forward in the starting position. ย  The exercise is overall very good for muscle building, so if you like doing the exercise keep doing it. ย  Fortunately, almost every gym has a cable harness, rope, or something else you can hold onto. Even people who have a small gym at home usually have a cable tower. ย  As for alternatives, skull crushers are about as good. The standing dumbbell overhead extension!! This exercise is great for targeting the triceps!!! It can also be done seated too. Try to keep the elbows in throughout the entire movement. Slowly and with control, lower the dumbbell behind your head. Then push the dumbbell back up to the starting position. Donโ€™t flare those elbows out! Overhead Tricep Extension ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Hereโ€™s a gentle adapted overhead tricep extension on the reformer from one of my recent 1:1 sessions at @prominence_pilates Focusing on sitting up nice and tall with the pelvic floor lifted and the abdominals engaged taking the eyeline looking forward. Keep the bicep close to the ears and the tension in the straps as you lower the fist towards the crown of head until it makes a 90โ€™ angle.
